I am a 68 year young retired pediatric dentist who has taken up figurative painting in a 126 year old house on the Cote d’Opale, France! Born and raised in the USA I have lived in Europe since the age of 17. ( England & Germany) 10 months ago I moved from Germany to France to be closer to my adult children and my grandson who live across the channel in London. I adore my two female Cavalier King Charles dogs who came to me through a German animal shelter having been rescued from a puppy mill in the Czech Republic. We are lucky enough to live in a beautiful big house from 1900 with a big garden that I spend a lot of time in and we enjoy very much. The house is only 10 minutes away from the beach ( Hardelot), 10 minutes away from the very beautiful and old harbour town Boulogne-sur-mer and very close to Le Touquet . I am learning French, but still a beginner 😁. I am turning my garage into an atelier/studio and there are several DIY projects I am working on.

The area is great for all things involving sports or beaches, oceans like kite surfing, sailing golfing , horseback riding, bicycling, hiking and walking. There are castles and cathedrals and many museums to visit. There are artistic programs as well with huge wall paintings all over Boulogne sur mer. Many events like markets, flea markets, antique markets. One huge advantage here is the French lifestyle without being quite as expensive or as hot as southern France.

I’m looking for someone or a couple to come and stay in my house to look after my dogs and mind the place when I go to visit my children who live in London.
My dogs are fine with being alone for 4 or 5 hours or taking walks in a nearby hiking forest but are not very comfortable with going for walks in busy places. They are traumatised and still very inexperienced with humans, having been in a cage for the 6 years they lived before being rescued.
That is also why I will not be leaving for more than 3 to 5 days or maximally a week after seeing that they are ok with it. That’s also why I won’t be taking them to London where my children live even though theoretically I could - I just think that for the moment they feel safe here and I don’t want to confuse them.
Also a great idea : lodgement in exchange for gardening or DIYing around the house. An old house always needs some « TLC- tender loving care » and I have several home improvements I’d like to do with the right skill set. Literally all skills and abilities welcome! This platform is really helpful as my pension is not enough to renovate this house professionally all at once. I try to seasonally plan and manage the work.
Artists of all ages and abilities are very welcome. I used to draw and paint as a child but then stopped and didn’t pick up a paintbrush for 50 years but discovered in the past 5 years that art is therapeutic for me and I haven’t lost it! Now I enjoy acrylic and oil painting and consider myself a contemporary figurative artist. I plan to launch a website ( maybe) and actually try to share my work. -

Learning French is really important to me, I want to speak it as well as I do German. The best way is just to live in the country, and speak it daily. I would especially be interested in someone who can kick start my French speaking abilities…I can understand a lot but when it comes to expressing myself in French I still struggle. My native language is English but lived in Germany for 50 years so completely fluent in German . Now learning French… great for my brain haha😁 -

3 large double bedrooms, 1 shower room, one bathroom, 2 toilets, living room , dining room and modern kitchen. 220 sq m in total without garage. Parking for 3 cars. Fenced and gated property.Many trees and birds.
It will feel like your home, everything is here. There is a large grocery store just down the road (4 minute walk) but a car is helpful to get around in. But actually I have two bicycles for you to chose from to use which will do well in case you do not have a car. One is mine (Grandma style with carrier bags) and one is a men’s cross country style. Last year the Tour de France went right past my front gate! -

Although I am very tolerant of others, for my own health’s sake I don’t drink alcohol or smoke. I was a vegetarian for a long time but currently not, I try to eat «cleanly» and am a fan of Hello Fresh .
I offer either 1 main meal a day with hello fresh for 7 euros a day which I will cook for us when I’m home or you can organise and cook your own meals if you prefer. -

You will have your own bedroom and share kitchen and bath/shower rooms. There is a very nice office you can use with printer and good internet connections.
