We are a couple fulfilling our life long dream, and we have just finished the first stage of our forward thinking jungle retreat and bird sanctuary in a bountiful spot along a crystal clear river near Minca, a magical place up in the mountains not far from Santa Marta and the amazing Tayrona park.
Michelle is a yoga teacher and I am a designer, and with your help and our wonderful local staff we will make this tropical sanctuary a jungle immersion experience like no other!
We have used only bamboo (Guadua) and natural wood and implemented a combination of ancestral building methods with state of the art vanguard design, respecting nature as our number one priority.
At SELVA MINCA we are implementing a new concept of low impact high quality travel, where we allow a small group of hand picked like minded guests per month and offer them an unusual immersion experience in the jungle, pamper them with a very dedicated knowledgeable staff, top notch vegetarian food and jaw dropping accommodations.
All the money collected from guests will be used to maintain all bamboo/wood structures and build new ones, pay for staff and fund all experimental pro/nature local projects including participating actively in efforts that better the lives of underprivileged Minca residents.
We are now looking for workawayers that can teach yoga/meditation/breathing, and/or know and can cook vegetarian meals with local ingredients.
Also contact us if you are a graphic or industrial designer, a hands on architect or a carpenter, know enough about birds to guide visitors or you know and love plants and gardening.
We will share with volunteers our experiences with the building process of the bamboo nests, the planting and conservation of all the landscape and will learn and share thoughts with visitors on permaculture and sustainability.
We will be asking volunteers to help with some of the following tasks:
Leading yoga/meditation and breathing practices daily.
Helping in the creation and execution of a plant based menu with local fare and home grown vegetables, including natural healthy drinks and kombuchas.
Helping and participating actively with decoration and landscaping of all areas of the lodge.
Helping in the design of a greeting, check in/out and activity information protocol that will generate a very pleasant and welcoming feeling to our special guests.
Collaborating with our communication campaign in social media.
Getting involved in various sustainable projects in permaculture (learning about local plants and herbs, planting and caring for the nursery) involving conservation, reforestation and water and energy optimization.
You will be staying at the newly built staff headquarters with clean bathroom, electricity, internet (not fantastic) , a private kitchen and amazing views.
The river is just steps away and will lull you to sleep at night, and you’ll wake up to bird songs and an ocasional howler monkey call!
The town of Minca is only a 15 minute walk and has great weather all year round. (It rains a lot in the rainy season but temperature does not change)
You will be sharing an amazing experience in a wonderful friendly forest with a lovely crew of fun hard working locals and other Wokawayers like you!

They will learn Spanish fore sure, immerse in the Colombian culture, get to know a little about our history, why Minca is so special, about the local Mountain indigenous tribes and what they have to teach us.
They will learn traditional and modern methods for building with guadua/natural clay, and work with drift wood.
Workawayers will interact with local Colombians and enjoy/share our very rich and diverse cultural identity, where music and dancing are paramount, all this while enjoying the amazing sunny weather in Minca and the laidback atmosphere of the Colombian Caribbean!
We are currently finishing the building phase on the retreat, and will need help with all activities associated with it such as path network and construction, permaculture, planting and landscape, eco waste management, water filtering and hydroelectric projects. We would love to have someone help us with setting up a cronologic history of the project with pictures and videos we have collected during the past two years, as this bamboo project is unique in South America.
Architects and designers of all kinds are very welcomed, as well as passionate vegetarians cooks, yoga teachers and like minded workawayers!

We have recently finish building a staff area with 4 bunk beds in two separate rooms, they where built with ancestral methods that use bamboo and clay, they are very cool and breezy and the river can bear heard all day because is just 100 meters away. The space has a downstairs level with the bathrooms, showers , a kitchen and the a long working dining/working table.
Better not, we have some local dogs so it may not be a good idea…
