I'm Dyanna, my major is Languages Teaching and Translation.
I lived in South Korea for two years and got to learn about the culture and language.

I need a Korean who can speak English or/and Spanish. Who can volunteer as a korean language teacher/assitant.

The workawayer will help during the class when the students have a doubt about language or culture, prepare ocasional presentations about Korean culture, help organize activities for the students, etc.

Accommodation, food, will be provided.

The requirements are:
-Fluent Korean & English or Spanish
-Knowledge of Korean culture,
Interested in learning about Mexico or Spanish.
-Friendly, respectful, open minded, caring

It's a shared accommodation but you'll have your own place to sleep and put your belongings.

Classes are private and groups are small (17max) they are mostly university students who want to learn the language and culture. You will help less than 16 hrs per week, you can enjoy your free time getting to know the city or studying it’s up to you , I can offer transportation sometimes.
The job is in Mexicali, Mexico which is a small city. However landscapes are very different since it's located near the desert of Sonora. You can try sand boarding!! It's also located on the border with California, USA. Los Angeles is 4hrs away from here, San Diego is 2 hours by car and there other nice cities that you can also visit while being here.

I have been part of different cultural exchange programs so my objective with this is also create a solid friendship and go on adventures together rather than just work.

I have a 17 years old Yorkshire terrier mix. She tends to bark when she is hungry or when she wants attention. However since shes very old now, she spends most of the time sleeping.

She doesn’t bite, she only barks a little bit when theres someone new because she wants attention.

I spent the happiest and most meaningful six weeks of my life in Mexicali.
To be honest, Mexicali is not a city filled with tourist attractions or entertainment. But that never mattered to me. What mattered most were the people. I met many Mexican friends who genuinely love Korean culture, and simply spending time with them was more than enough. … read more We traveled together, went out for drinks, hung out, and shared everyday moments, and those times made me feel deeply fulfilled and happy.
At first, traveling alone to Mexico as a woman felt like a big challenge. I had many concerns about safety. However, during my entire stay in Mexicali, I never once felt unsafe. On the contrary, I constantly felt welcomed, protected, and at ease.
I spent Christmas, my birthday, and New Year’s with my host family, and I truly felt like a member of their family. Dyanna’s family was incredibly warm, kind, and full of love, and every moment I spent with them filled my heart with gratitude. Every day I was able to stay in their home felt precious.
The work itself was never difficult or burdensome. My role mainly involved introducing Korean culture, helping with pronunciation, and assisting with spelling and language practice. Although I do not speak Spanish, communication was not an issue since most people could speak English, and I never felt uncomfortable.
Here, I learned what “pure and unconditional love” truly means—something I had never fully experienced before. At first, I even felt guilty, wondering if it was really okay to simply receive so much love. But the people here taught me that just receiving love can be enough.
Back in Korea, I didn’t know how to love myself. However, through the kindness and unconditional love I received here, I came to understand what love truly is, how to love myself, and what it means to give and receive love without conditions.
When it was time to leave, saying goodbye was truly difficult. I am certain that I will return here someday, carrying even more love with me. Mexicali has now become my second home.
This experience became a true turning point in my life. Through my long-term travels, I finally understood what I had been searching for, what had been missing, and why my life in Korea had felt so lonely. I began this journey without a plan, not knowing when I would return, but while staying here, I realized that what I lacked was love and that I didn’t even know what love truly was. Now, I feel complete. I feel that I could return to Korea at any time and be okay.
This place will forever remain a precious, gentle, love-filled, and dreamlike chapter of my life.

This was my first workaway experience. I stayed at Dyanna's place in Mexicali, Baja California from 2018 Oct to 2018 Dec, assisting in Dyanna's Korean classes. It was such a great and precious experience with the wonderful host and amazing students.

Dyanna is an enthusiastic and accommodating teacher. She speaks Spanish, English, and fluent … read more Korean. She has a very good understanding of different cultures including not just North American / Latin American but also Asian cultures such as Korean, Japan, and Chinese.
I stayed in Dyanna's house with her wonderful family including one little lovely dog. Dyanna’s family was super friendly and kind. I was provided with a separate room upstairs with a separate entrance. It was very private and comfortable. Also, she tried to offer meals as well.

It was such a nice surprising to see that a lot of Mexicali people were very interested in learning Korean language and culture! They were from junior high school and college students to workers and a mother of 2 kids. They just loved studying Korean and having fun with learning. The classroom is just 5 minutes away from Dyanna's house by walking. I volunteered 5 days a week (not more than 20 hours a week). There were 8 classes a week consisting of beginner's, intermediate, and advanced classes.
Even though my Spanish was not very good, we could communicate in English. Dyanna was playing as an interpreter between me and students. I often prepared interesting topics regarding Korean language or culture for the classes. Also, I read texts for students and answered questions asked by the teacher and students during the class. I wish I could had spoken Spanish better so that I might have been able to help the students better.

Basically, it was all my free time outside of the classroom. Sometimes, I had dinner or night time snack together with students after class. They were such nice friends trying to share real Mexicali culture with me and help me with my Spanish. Also, I travelled around local Mexicali areas. I visited a lot of good restaurants. Dyanna and her family was willing to help me improve my Spanish and take me to festivals, events, and good restaurants. I would say Mexicali is generally very safe. Just be careful of street dogs. I stayed here in the winter so I couldn’t complain about the hot weather. But it was a bit colder in the morning and at night than I expected. You might want to bring some winter clothes here if you’re visiting here around Nov/Dec/Jan.

I want to thank again to Dyanna for offering a great opportunity in Mexicali. I’ll miss Dyanna’s family, Haruhi, and her students. Nos vemos. 감사합니다! 끝.
