This is a brand new venture being set up in Manabi province in Ecuador, having purchased the farm last year after it had been left to become wild, I've had a challenge to transform it into a working farm. Everything from irrigation installation, thick weed clearance and ground preparation had to be done. To achieve this I've employed a friendly local team that help me 6 days a week in the plantations. My next goal is to become a fully organic farm - but there are holes in my knowledge that I would love to be filled in with the help of friendly volunteers.

You get the oppourtunity to learn about running a successful farm in rural Ecuador, right from the beginning. Despite having been here for 18 months now, I never stop learning! There are many exotic crops which grow well here owing to our 12 hours of sunshine, 365 days a year. Talking to the local team will allow you to learn about their culture, and of course practice your Spanish. Don't worry if you don't speak Spanish presently, neither did I when I arrived! If you are interested, you can learn about the biodiversity of the area as there are still wild areas of the farm. Equally, you are welcome to assist with the 6 on farm horses - I am trying to get them ready for tourists to ride so I'm layering them with attention and training. There really are a great variety of oppourtunities for volunteers, and I am very happy to welcome you.
I really need volunteers who are experienced in permaculture and organic farming. I am trying to make the farm wholly organic but don't feel I know enough yet and it is difficult to find assistance with that aspect here. Volunteers who may have studied this theoretically but not had the chance to implement ideas are very welcome, as are those who have practiced it in many places but now want to experience the farming life in Ecuador. In fact, if you are experienced with organic farming or permaculture in any way, then please do get in touch. Your ideas will be listened to and discussed with the owner and local team to establish if it is practical, then of course you get to help with the implementation. You can be involved at every stage in this process, as well as helping with the daily farm work, so you really will get to see the impact of your help,

***PLEASE NOTE*** Accommodation is in the process of construction - due to be completed by 20/11/2016 - if you wish to volunteer before this time please note that accommodation is VERY RUSTIC (hammock, bucket for washing, make shift kitchen)
Accommodation is simple but comfortable, with volunteers being provided with either a queen or full sized bed in a mixed dorm room. A bathroom is available for use, as is the kitchen. Cooking is communal - please note it is mainly vegetarian but volunteers are welcome to provide meat if they wish. Drinking water is available at all times.
The local town is a 10 minute journey away which can be made by local bus from the end of the drive, or you are welcome to hitch a lift with us as we drive into town. A large town is a one hour bus ride away where a greater variety of supplies are available. The area is very peaceful and volunteers will get time to relax (for example, why not bathe in the river at the bottom of the property or go birdspotting in the on property woods). We try to keep a positive attitude and above all be flexible to change as the unexpected often happens! Life at the farm is very simple with little entertainment like TV, but there is plenty of socialising to be done and time to read a good book in a hammock.
