    CULTURAL EXCHANGE AND LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES

This project will give volunteers a holistic view of the process involved in the cultivation of rubber, from the initial stages of preparation and planting of the rubber trees through to the harvesting and processing of the rubber itself.

Additionally, the project provides volunteers with the first-hand experience in the day to day operations of a rural farm in the heart of Guatemala and will give them a better understanding of how the ecosystem and the environment in the region works.

The community around the farm is small and extremely hospitable, as such the volunteers will have the opportunity to experience Guatemalan culture and take part in the activities of the community.

Finally, as part of our mission for diversification volunteers will have the autonomy to create and try new things in the knowledge that they will be able to benefit the community in the long term.

We believe that this is a great experience firstly because the location of the farm is inserted in a natural rainforest and it is a spectacular experience if one wants to withdraw a bit of civilization and experience authentic Guatemalan culture.

We are close to Guatemala City by bus. Initially, we would provide transportation to the farm from the city. Additionally, we will make regular visits to ensure everything is progressing well.

We hope that the volunteers will behave in an educated and professional manner and give all neighbors and collaborators of the farm the appropriate respect and due courtesy.

The staff that works at the farm has been working there for many years and they are hard working, educated, conservative and friendly people.

In free time volunteers can go to the nearest town to share with neighbors or make their own gardens or personal projects.

Additionally, we have a small house next to Lake Atitlan which volunteers may go to visit for a few days as a break from the farm.

    Ayuda

We are interested in finding one or two volunteers to help us on the farm with duties including some administration, organization, and structuring of the rubber plantation currently.

At the same time, we want to start diversifying production with fruits and vegetables. As such, we would like to create gardens of fruit and vegetables of all kinds.

We require volunteers to stay for a minimum of one month.

    Alojamiento

At the moment we have three employee houses, one of which is for volunteers.

The house comes with a kitchen that has a gas stove and microwave. There is also a shower and running water available. We will provide food for volunteers and can send additional food on a weekly bases, as required.

The location of the farm is in the Guatemalan countryside and the climate is both hot and humid. It is approximately two and a half hour drive from Guatemala city by car.

Given the remote location of the farm, the internet can be difficult at times. We are willing to provide a Guatemalan SIM card to volunteers to ensure some level of the internet is available.
