    Hi there! :)

We are a family of five, two humans (David & Olalla), two kittens (Jimena & Sombra), and one granny dog (Kyra).

We live close to Betanzos, a town very well known for its famous tortilla! (If you're not vegan, you should definitely try it!)

    ABOUT THE PLACE
Our home is 50 minutes from Santiago de Compostela and 30 minutes by car from A Coruña. Ideally, you would have your own car, but if you don't, I (Olalla) usually drive to A Coruña early in the morning and can give you a lift. From there, you'll have plenty of public transport options to explore other places. I also go to Santiago de Compostela once a week.

There are also buses to and from A Coruña from Betanzos, which is about 15 minutes away by car. From time to time, I'll be able to give you a lift or pick you up there if needed, but please bear in mind that public transport options directly to our house are limited.

Our house has three rooms: one for us, a guest room, and a studio. The studio may be available for you if you need a space to work remotely. We might occasionally need to use it too, but there's a coworking space in the town (20 minutes by walk or 5 minutes by car). In the rare case that we all need the studio at the same time, we'll find a way to organise things and can also use the public coworking space.

The kitchen and living room are part of a shared space, and we have one bathroom that you'll share with us.

We have a big garden, with a forest along one side. So, even though the house isn't completely remote, you'll have the opt to relax and feel in to nature.

We also have a vegetable garden and try to eat what we grow, although we haven't had enough time to look after it properly this season.

    ABOUT YOUR ROOM
You'll have your own private room, with a lot of space for yourself. The bathroom will be shared with us, as will the other common areas, such as the kitchen and living room.

As mentioned above, you'll also have access to a separate space where you can work on your laptop or simply relax whenever you want.

    ABOUT US
We enjoy a quiet lifestyle, but we also love a good conversation. We've worked on ships, so we've learned how to live alongside different type of people.

We're very into social justice and we don't tolerate disrespectful or discriminatory behaviour in our home.

We're not vegan, but we're more than happy to eat vegetarian meals if you are. We could also adapt our meals to a vegan diet, although please bear in mind that there will still be dairy products in the house.

Our daily routine is pretty simple. We enjoy spending time together, but we also appreciate the peace and quiet of home: reading, spending time with the animals, going for walks...

I (Olalla) really like yoga and have recently started practising Ashtanga, as well as Pilates. You're more than welcome to join me for a session anytime! :)

    ABOUT THE ANIMALS
The kittens (Jimena & Sombra) are very sweet and curious. They love being around people and playing with humans.

Kyra, our dog, is 14 years old and came to live with us just two months ago. She is the sweetest dog and she really enjoys spending time with people. Despite her age, she still has lots of vitality!

She does have some incontinence issues. Most of the time, she's able to pee outside, but she may occasionally have accidents inside the house. She has her own little space in the living room, and we take good care to keep the house clean. It doesn't really bother us, but please bear this in mind if you're particularly sensitive about cleanliness or feel uncomfortable around this kind of situation.

    BASIC RULES
All we ask for is mutual respect and a willingness to share a good experience together.

Smoking is not allowed inside the house, but you're welcome to smoke outdoors or in the garage.

Please don't invite anyone over without checking with us first, and avoid noisy activities during the rest time so that everyone can rest peacefully.

    EXPECTATIONS
We hope you come with willingness to contribute to the household in whatever way you can, while also feeling comfortable at home.

You won't need to work the hours daily, you are more than wellcome to organice the hours as you prefer so you can also enjoy the time in the area.

We're flexible about the length of your stay, but we think it's always best to start with one week and see how we all feel. If it works well for everyone, we can always discuss extending your stay! :)

WHAT WE CAN SHARE WITH YOU

We've both lived and travelled in different places, and our last adventure was in Aotearoa (New Zealand), where we also took part in a Workaway exchange. Because of that experience, we really understand what it feels like to be a guest in someone else's home and how important it is to feel welcome.

By staying with us, you'll have the chance to discover the Galician and Canary Islands culture, where David comes from.

We'd love to offer you a home where you can feel comfortable, have your own privacy and enjoy a relaxed space. We want you to feel at home while also having the freedom to organise your own time.

If you enjoy being creative, we also have plenty of materials for crafts and handmade projects that you're welcome to use.

We can share recipes and practise languages, we don't expect to spend all our time together, but we enjoy sharing a meal, having a good conversation or doing something together whenever it feels right for everyone.

We'll provide the basics for your everyday meals, including breakfast (such as oats, bread with olive oil, jam and other options), lunch and dinner. We're happy to adapt our meals to vegetarian or vegan diets.

You'll also have access to a separate studio for working remotely or enjoying some quiet time whenever it's available.

  • Ayuda

    Ayuda

We only settled into our home a few months ago, so any kind of skills, ideas or helping hands are more than welcome!

We have different projects going on both indoors and outdoors, and we'd also appreciate some help with everyday household tasks and taking care of the animals.

Here are some examples of things we could use a hand with. Of course, everything depends on your experience, the things you feel comfortable doing and what you'd enjoy. We're also very open to hearing your own ideas and suggestions, so feel free to share any skills or projects you'd like to bring to the table!

    EVERYDAY HOUSEHOLD TASKS
    - Helping with the cleaning after meals.
    - Keeping the bathroom clean and tidy, as it's a shared space.
    - Keeping your own room clean and tidy.
    - Helping with general daily cleaning and keeping shared spaces tidy.
    - Helping to take care of the animals.
    - Cooking and sharing meals.

    INDOOR PROJECTS
    - Deep cleaning.
    - Sanding and painting walls.
    - General home maintenance and small DIY tasks, such as putting up curtains.
    - Sewing and small textile projects.
    - Sanding, upcycling and giving furniture a new look.

    OUTDOOR PROJECTS
    - Garden care
    - Garden decoration; arranging plants and making the garden look nice.
    - DIY projects
    - General outdoor cleaning and maintenance.

We see small everyday gestures, such as helping to tidy up after meals and keeping shared spaces clean, as part of living together respectfully rather than as work, so these wouldn't count towards the agreed working hours.

We're not expecting anyone to know how to do everything! We'd simply love to share our home, exchange skills and ideas, and make progress on our projects together in a relaxed and enjoyable way.

We'll always discuss the tasks together beforehand and agree on what feels fair and comfortable for everyone. :)

You'll have access to a separate studio where you can work remotely, take calls or focus on your own projects whenever it's available. We understand the importance of having a comfortable workspace, so we'll do our best to coordinate and make sure everyone has the space they need. There's also a coworking space in the nearby town, just a 20-minute walk or 5-minute drive away, if you need an alternative. Please bear in mind that we're in a rural area, so having your own car can be helpful, although we'll try to help with transport whenever possible. :)
