We are Via (me) and Antione. I am from New York and Antoine from France. We bought the boat, Kiwani, with the purpose of creating an eco project- working with local communities and farms and creating content about off grid living. Now we are getting the boat into perfect shape and beginning to build our project! Kiwani is the name the boat was given when we bought it and it means “person who likes to give a helping hand”, which we feel is significant to our project ideas :)

Our project (still in the works!): we want to show people how “cool”, fulfilling, and accessible living off grid is. Our plan is to travel the world, starting with the Caribbean after hurricane season and find farms, eco communities, and local villages to work with. We want to learn all we can about caring from the land, and make content in the form of photo/video/blog post showing our viewers how beautiful and cool the lifestyle is. I just graduated university where I studied environmental science with an emphasis in sustainable agriculture and i am especially interested in farming. Antoine has extensive knowledge about appropriate technologies, which make off grid living way more comfortable. We want to offer our skills to the people we work with and learn from them.

We speak english, I speak okay Spanish, and Antoine is fluent in French, Spanish, and english. You can learn to sail! Antoine is captain and has plenty of experience. We are planning on eventually teaching sailing classes as well. You have the opportunity to work with local farms and communities, making things like coconut oil, eco construction, etc! Day to day life on a sailboat teaches you a lot! You’ll have to help out with the boat maintenance, which is a great learning opportunity. Most of all we need volunteers who are fearless! Sailing is sometimes scary and we need people who can handle stressful environments. You will experience the most beautiful sunsets, bioluminescence plankton, diving in corals, dolphin watching, gorgeous beaches, and everything else the sea has to offer.

We are finishing up our final projects and we hope to head to san Blas and then Colombia in 2 weeks 🤞

We are looking for someone - preferably a handy girl with some sailing experience (as a woman I prefer to share the space with women, especially if they choose to come on a longer crossing with us!) to help finish our last jobs and then they might have the opportunity to continue traveling with us to san Blas and maybe Colombia :)

We want volunteers to help us start building our project and help build our boat as well. Helping with general maintenance, cooking communal meals, and keeping the space clean is important.
    Also a social media manager.

Welcoming volunteers sooner rather than later. We will likely not respond to requests for months in advance. If you have requested to come in the next few days or week or so and we haven’t answered, feel free to message again! We might have missed you :)

Our boatstagram- ask us for the link. We might be faster to answer messages there

We have a 33 foot Wauquiez. It is surprisingly spacious! We have a couch that pulls out into a full bed, and also a smaller sleeping space by the chart table that is currently being used for storage, but we can put a curtain there if you would prefer! We do not have sufficient funds to provide food- we ask that you pitch in for communal meals, it just makes the most sense as we sometimes are far away from access to food. You also have the option of bringing your own food.

Bocas del toro is a beautiful place to sail. We are working on making the boat better and getting our project started, but we are also just sailing to beautiful spots to get to know the area and experience all of the beauty. We are looking for a volunteers by daily or weekly basis. We want to talk to you on the phone first and see if we get along, after all we will be in a small-ish space!
