… read more dolce cucciola Fragoletta e i gatti. Abbiamo visto nascere due puledri, visto schiudere delle uova di gallina, delle esperienze uniche. Il container è stupendo, ha tutto il necessario, compreso un fornetto dove abbiamo sfornato dolci e lo abbiamo trovato pulitissimo. I bambini adorabili, Ruggero troppo simpatico e Aurelia dolcissima. Anche se per poco tempo, due settimane, è stata una bella esperienza.

… read more horses and other animals, I’m already missing my best friend Bella (the dog) who was with me during all the tasks on the ranch. This place is not for the weak haha some of the work is very physical, so if you want to grow muscles, this is the perfect place for you! Usually my day consisted of feeding the horses at 9:00 in the morning, looking after children or doing farmwork in the afternoon or evening and feeding the horses again at 7:30 in the evening. In my free time, I had multiple riding lessons that were very interesting and useful for me since I’m used to a very different riding style. Salvatore is a great teacher and is very passionate about his work with the horses. The accommodation was very comfortable for me, I had everything I needed. My typical day looked like this: everyday from around 8 am I was
… read more feeding the horses, sheep, chickens and was checking water for all animals including the cows. Then in the afternoon around 3:30 pm I either looked after the kids or I helped Salvo doing farmwork. Then in the night I was again feeding the animals. I think I worked a lot so I would recommend coming in pairs, because you need to feed the animals every day (also on your free days) which becomes less tiring when you’re not alone. Happily I could share my first week with another Workawayer and in the end we also became friends. It was my first time taking care of animals and sometimes I felt too responsible for the animals and also if Salvo repeated that I’m just a Workawayer and I don’t need to feel stressed, I received feedback in an accusing way sometimes. Also I wouldn’t recommend this place if you cannot deal with animals being used for meat production, but if you don’t care much and also eat meat I would strongly recommend this place because they also really cook good and I always enjoyed eating with them!
I’m very happy to have passed my first Workaway experience here and I really fell in love with some of your animals. As other Workawayers already mentioned, it’s very useful to have a car here, because there are many nice spots around but I couldn’t visit much. But on my first week I was hitchhiking with the other volunteer and it worked well. Unfortunately we found out that the accommodation has bedbugs, but we started to fix the problem and I hope the problem will be solved soon.

Avremmo preferito passare la notte all'aperto o sul pavimento del traghetto .. piuttosto che nel container.
Gli ultimi ospiti hanno lasciato tutto, pastiglie, orecchini, pantaloni, cibo e sporcizia.
È un peccato che non si sia trovata una soluzione adeguata e che le opinioni siano diverse, perché rimane un'esperienza negativa per entrambe le parti. Non è il mio modo di annullare un accordo, ma questo è stato davvero irragionevole per mia figlia.

We had a long journey, when we arrived there was no one, no information.
Salvatore was preparing for a party. We could have arrived on another day that would have suited him better.
We were told to wait by phone. It was already late and my daughter and I had to find somewhere to sleep in a guest house.
We would have preferred to spend the night outside or on the floor of the ferry... than in this container.
The last guests left everything behind: Pills, earrings, trousers, food and dirt.

We learned a lot with Salvatore, he taught us how to ride in the western style ! He's a really great teacher ! I personally didn't even know how to stand on a horse and in few days I learned how to trot ! Romy also learned a lot thanks to him !
We also learned some medical things, 'cause he's a vet. You have to aware that he mainly do insemination, it's not for everyone.

I had the chance to take care of Ruggero (6), a brave young horse rider, and Aurelia (2), a cute little girl, three times a week, and I enjoyed preparing food for the children.
They always treated me like family, and the accommodation was excellent—a comfortable prefabricated home with all the amenities I needed. We shared many family meals, and I had the chance to meet some of their family and friends, which was a wonderful experience.
The work was exactly as described in the profile, and Salvatore was always there to help if needed. This experience has been truly unforgettable, and I highly recommend it to anyone considering a Workaway with this lovely family. Salvatore would be more than happy to teach you horseback riding (if you don't know how to) and share all his knowledge about these incredible animals.
Child caring was an important assignment during our stay in Salvatore's home: three days per week we would spend the afternoons with Rugge (6) and Aurelia (2), and prepare them supper afterwards. We had amazing and fun times with them, they love playing and are super active kids!
Other tasks included building stables and installing electric fences. We were given the liberty to manage each chore ourselves, but Salvatore was always willing to lend us a hand if we needed to.
You will have lots of free time to relax and explore the nearby towns are beaches as there are buses near the house ready to take you there. If you have the chance, you'll be invited to visit the family's friends, enjoy meals together and get to know the authentic Sicilian lifestyle :)
We leave Castelvetrano with beautiful memories and experiences we'll never forget, all thanks to the kindness and joyfullness of Salvatore and his family.
