Ariane is a wonderful person! She was recovering from an illness while we were there so we weren't able to spend as much time with her as we all would have liked, but she was still so kind and generous. We were only able to stay at her place for 5 days in between other workaways we had scheduled, but we harvested most of her olive trees for her!
… read more Since we came during the olive harvest, that is the only work we did so we can't speak to what other tasks she has volunteers working on during other seasons. She brought us down to the spot to drop the olives off where they make the olive oil which was really cool to see. Her place is in a really beautiful area, but it is definitely a bit of a hike down to the bigger town of Toscolano if you don't have a car. We made the trek down and up once--a great leg workout! Definitely something to be noted if you prefer to have easier access to shops/bars/other things to do.
We got to stay in her little rental cottage because the house was full with other people, and we really enjoyed the space. The wifi doesn't reach to the rental so we had to go down and sit on her patio to get internet. We had our own bathroom and little tiny kitchen where we cooked all of our meals ourselves. It was lovely to wake up surrounded by trees and birds singing! This is definitely a secluded and very peaceful place. We will definitely be keeping in touch with Ariane!

If you need a place to stay long term for citizenship process or permesso di soggiorno, this is the perfect place. We stayed with Ariane from June until November.
She helped a lot by going with us to the comune, helping us with the residence, calling government offices and driving us anywhere we needed to go.

… read more main things are taking care of the garden, cleaning the Airbnb she has (small lodge, takes about 3 hours to clean it if you're alone) and caring for the dogs and the pool.
The dogs are super gentle and so is Ariane. You can use the pool whenever you want and you can make your own schedule. She asks for 5 hours a day, 2 days off.

We spent almost 4 weeks with Ariane and her three dogs back in January, and we had a really good time.
First of all, the views from her property and especially the rooftop are spectacular! On a clear day you can overlook the complete south region of the garda lake and it was always a highlight watching the sunrise or sunset 😊
We had our own
… read more little area in her house, with our own room, bathroom and kitchen, which also meant we prepared and ate our food by ourselves. Ariane went food shopping once a week and you have to be very good at planning your meals beforehand. By the end of the week we often had to get creative with our cooking, but she always managed to find something for us😉
We worked 5h/5days and taking our days off was flexible. Ariane would explain to us what needed to be done and then we would work by ourselves. We helped with weeding, trimming, digging out blackberry roots, cleaning dog poop, painting rust protection on outside railings and painting wood stain on the outside wooden parts of her house. We mainly worked outside and we were very lucky with the weather. It was still very cold in the mornings but the sun came out very often and with the sun and the view, working outside was really nice 😊
The area itself is stunning. It does take about 45min to walk down to the lake from her house and a little longer to get back up because it is very steep, but since we had a car we were able to get around the lake and explore all the beautiful villages and nature. Hiking up to nearby Monte Castello was definitely a highlight. We didn’t get to spend much time with Ariane since she was always very busy but we could tell that she is a very interesting and kind woman.

I spent a bit more than a week with Ariane and I wish I could have stayed longer. Her place has to offer an amazing view and the area is quiet and peaceful. I really enjoyed Ariane's company and we got along really well. She's a super easy-going, generous, educated and honest person and I enjoyed just chatting with her about various topics.

… read more mainly did some maintenance work in the garden (which didn't feel that much like work because the view is just an instant reward). I also took care of the house and the dogs when Ariane was traveling. Her dogs are just the sweetest - such darlings!
Ariane's place is in a good spot to explore the surrounding mountains. Getting to Lago di Garda and the bigger cities is a bit more challenging because there is very little public transport to rely on and it's quite far to walk, so it would be definitely useful to have a car. However, there's enough to explore on foot like the Toscolano valley or Monte Castello.

The house and garden are large, so the work can vary and sometimes be challenging, but it never looked difficult or too hard. Our moonlight dinners around the table in the garden were unforgettable moments of discussion and sharing with Ariane, the two other workaway girls and Stefano, one of Ariane's friends who cooked great food for us. We made a real good team with a mix of different ages and experiences. Ariane is a great host for people who are open to share experiences and enjoy being in the nature.
