Dimitri and I were quite nervous about this first step, as volunteering
… read more was something completely new to us. However, from the very first day, they made us feel like part of the family. We spent almost a month there and learned so much: a bit of permaculture, general property maintenance, gathering and cutting wood for the next winter, weeding, and above all, experiencing a sense of community.
We had so much fun with everyone and had the incredible opportunity to visit a place filled with breathtaking landscapes.
All the moments we spent together remain in our hearts. thank you so much. WE MISS YOU ALL
We are so pleased Dimitri and Mariana chose us as their first Workaway experience. We absolutely loved these guys and are so sad to see them go. As remote area Tasmanians we have a lot of wood to process, and Mariana and Dimitri worked hard and with precision. Everything they did was so beautifully presented. We were never left in the kitchen to
… read more clean up after everyone, and both Dimitri and Mariana observed daily tasks and stepped into the flow without as needing to ask for help. Mariana extended this initiative to cleaning the house. There was lots of fun cooking, music and dancing, and both Mariana and Dimitri slotted so well into our greater community with their lovely people skills and zeal to give and share culture. We're so grateful, and have no doubt they will enrich other people's lives as much as they did ours.

We loved having Sumika. She was an absolute delight to have stay. So respectful and kind, and very capable and insightful. She helped us with a monster thistle weeding task which we completed in preparation for making thistle tea for the gardens next year. It was so good to get this done. We are very grateful. On top of that, we were never left
… read more alone in the kitchen. Sumika was always there helping with food prep and clean ups. It made hosting her very easy, and we would definitely open our home to Sumika again in future.

It was truly wonderful to be able to visit this family for the last time during my trip to Australia.
During my stay in Lorinna, I learned firsthand about living harmoniously with nature. In a short period, we weeded around the house and prepared herbal tea from the garden. It was fulfilling to contribute to planting native trees.

… read more listening to Lianna conversing with trees and animals naturally. Knowing that Asep always lives gently and respectfully was something I inspiring. And the people living in Lorinna's sustainable community are peaceful, creative, and wonderful.
It's a place where anyone interested in peace, sustainable living, health, spirituality, and education should visit. Both of them generously shared their knowledge about anything I was interested in. They also taught me about Earth communities in Japan, which holds great significance for me.
Thank you for preparing delicious meals every day. It sparked my interest in learning more about Indonesian cuisine. I would be happy to visit again someday and help with community activities.
I hope Lorinna continues to host wonderful Workawayers with diverse knowledge, skills, and ideas. I'm grateful for all their kindness.
I also want to add that the way they taught me to love nature and neighbors is something that can be practiced even in Japan, across the sea. I want to implement it from small things.

Another spin off from The Amateurs was Ivan's Somatic workshops. Ivan works with body consciousness to enhance the performance of his troupe on stage. He offered these same workshops to our community of lay people with deeply moving outcomes, plus provided individual sessions. We are all much more embodied!
At a more day to day level, we very much appreciate Ivan's help in the kitchen and his delicious Spanish omelette. The kids from our community also reaped some enrichment from Ivan's stay when he show cased Barcelona in a cultural morning for our homeschoolers.
We are very grateful for the connection we have established with Ivan and look forward to his return some day. We hope Ivan's travels bring him the same social and cultural nourishment he has given us.

They are playful and fun - our kids loved them, and they were great teachers - the kids enthusiastically lapped up as much as they could about Denmark, where Mette and Anders come from. I would absolutely recommend giving Mette free range in the kitchen - she whips up the yummiest gourmet food - a treat every time :). We were all (including the neighbours) sad to see Mette and Anders go and are looking forward to their return (the neighbourhood is expecting us to share them next time). My brother and I spent three weeks with this beautiful family. Time went by too fast, and we were sad to leave!
We were immediately welcomed into the family and community of Lorinna, where we met so many lovely and interesting people, and had a chance of seeing sustainable living in practice.
We mainly did wood-work, meaning we collected
… read more firewood and kindlings, split and stacked firewood and so on, but some days we had to almost beg for work. We felt like we couldn't do enough for these people who gave so much.
The food deserves a mentioning as well. Fresh food were in abundance in Lorinna when we were there, and both the hosts Lianna and Asep (we ate a lot of delicious Indonesian food), and everyone who invited us into their homes, where amazing cooks! I also had the pleasure of full access to kitchen and pantry, so I cooked and baked a lot too, sometimes with the children.
