From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel extremely welcome. Howard had set up a lovely room for us with our own private bathroom with a TV and internet connection, as well as a great range of books to choose from in the room. He was very keen to point out that he wanted us to treat his home as our own, which included, to our delight, the

We felt amazingly calm in the mornings as we often awoke to a little classical music on the radio before breakfast, where we had a little brief of the day’s work. We always knew exactly what was expected of us, and Howard was always really appreciative of all the work we did throughout our stay, making us feel very valued. Howard was mindful of the work we were interested in doing and engineered the work to be a happy mixture of jobs he needed, and also jobs that we were interested in doing ourselves.
We found Howard to be a very inspirational person to listen to. You never really know what you will find out about him next, and we loved finding out about his life and achievements, especially in business.
Howard has a lovely group of friends, and we were hugely appreciative of being involved in Monday morning Breakfast Club, where he introduced us to his friends, who were all very warm and welcoming and a joy to meet.
We left feeling like we have made great friends in not only Howard but also his wider circle of friends and feel we made a fantastic decision in choosing Howard for our workaway experience. We truly had a fantastic time and hope to all meet up again in the future.
I've so enjoyed having Charlotte and Oliver here to stay. When they arrived, the garden was emerging from the winter cold, and they've left after bringing it back to life again. During the fortnight they've been here they have power-washed the tiles around the pool, strimmed the long grass, chopped up wood ready to burn next winter, weeded the vegetable and flower beds and moved the pool furniture outside. Ready for summer! We also spent time with a friend who's building a tiny house - breaking pallets for the floor boards and starting on the walls.
Charlotte and Oliver are friendly and work hard. Oliver is a great chef, with ambitions to start his own food business. Together they cooked some lovely meals, including breakfast for the Breakfast Club gang. We enjoyed many evenings playing Monopoly Deal, though I often succumbed to their ruthless streaks!
I wish Charlotte and Oliver good fortune on the next stage of their travels - they are a lovely couple. They've been respectful of my stuff and I've been lucky to have found them on this great network. Even Ginger the cat put in an appearance and kipped on their bed - praise indeed.

Steph and Stephen were with me in the Dordogne for the whole of May 24. They were amazing. We worked together, first constructing a pallet wood table with a glass top for my art projects. Then building a pallet wood playhouse in the secret depths of the garden. This is no ordinary playhouse; with crazy windows, two levels and a 'hobbit' door. It

Steph and Stephen were fun to be with - lots of stories, ideas and aspirations. They helped around the house, we cooked and ate most meals together and Steph showed me some new recipes to add to my pathetically meagre repertoire. They were careful with my things, followed instructions using my carpentry equipment and worked exceptionally hard on the projects - often well over time. I was also happy to show them around the area - with the majestic local chateaux, bustling markets and an ancient moated town.
They met some of my friends (they will be taking Monday's breakfast club back to Australia) and even offered their days-off helping out.
If you are looking for the perfect Workaways, then your search is at an end. Steph & Stephen are a wonderful couple and I thoroughly recommend them to other hosts. When they left I had to pinch myself; their room and bathroom were so clean and tidy I had to wonder if it had all been a dream!
But no, there's a corner of the Dordogne where, with their toil, happy grandchildren can now play in an enchanted hobbit house.

Howard is an exceptional host!
We stayed with him for the month of May and made a table and playhouse out of pallet wood, plus a few little things around the garden.
He is super organised so we were able to achieve and learn so much while never feeling overworked or rushed.

He has amazing friends close by and always invited us along to any get togethers.
He generously took us on a few trips to markets, beautiful villages etc to explore which was amazing as we didn't have a car.
Our room was spacious, with couch, TV and very comfortable bed. The house is beautiful and there are wonderful walks to take in the surrounding areas.
Overall, a fabulous month - fantastic pallet projects, delicious food, a great balance of socialising and doing our own thing - we highly recommend!Só é possível entrar em contato com Workawayers com assinaturas ativas.

Henryk & Fedra are a lovely couple. The weather was kind during their stay and we were able to get out into the garden most days. We built a hot compost, which will feed the garden for the next year, and they pressure-washed the tiles around the pool and repainted the walls ready for summer. They used the chainsaw to cut wood ready for next winter

They were careful and precise, and very diligent, which I appreciated. Once we got into a daily routine, Henryk prepared the breakfast (I had to say what time I would emerge from slumber) and that was an amazing start to the day. Fedra also did a lot of meal preparation and we had some Spanish specialities.
I think Henryk & Fedra are the perfect workaday couple. They were engaging, enjoyed some laughter and were very competent in the work they did for me, often unsupervised. They even worked more than the 4 to 5 hours on many days, which I appreciated. We went to Brantome together, and they had a weekend away in Perigueux and Sarlat to get to know the region a bit better.
They are now travelling in their gorgeous camper van to Germany and onwards to Iceland. I wish them well and they are welcome to return to their home-from-home in the Dordogne anytime.
Our stay with Howard was amazing! He welcomed us very warmly and let us being part of his lovely house and life from the very first beginning. We really enjoyed our month with Howard! He was a great host & teacher, very patient, and generous with his time. It rained quite a bit while we were there (in November), but we were able to build multiple doors & a worm farm in his workshop. On the sunny days, we did various projects in his garden & backyard.
What made this different than the
… read more other WorkAways we have done was that we primarily worked & ate meals with Howard, which meant lots of great conversations. That gave us a greater experience than just doing a job, as we learned about the region & other places Howard had been. We also really enjoyed working outside, as his property is very peaceful & has a lot of open space. He has built a great community & introduced us to many of his friends, which led to many fun meals together.
If you are looking for a relaxed part of the countryside & to see some smaller towns in France, this is a good place to be. If we had the opportunity, we would have stayed longer.Só é possível entrar em contato com Workawayers com assinaturas ativas.

I hosted Jeremy and Mia in Oct/Nov 2023 for a month and they were the perfect workawayers. We worked on garden projects on the few days without rain - mainly trimming back summer growth on hedges and bushes - and cutting dead trees. When we were forced into the workshop we deconstructed pallets and made a new wormery for the garden, a new front
… read more door and a new 2.4m shutter door. Nice carpentry projects. They listened to my instructions about using workshop and garden tools and were careful with the equipment.
They were tidy around the house and respectful of my stuff. With Mia having a catering background, we shared the cooking too, which was great, and a lovely bonus.
I thoroughly recommend Jeremy and Mia to other hosts. They are engaging and funny, and happy to pitch in - Mia cooked banana pancakes for my breakfast club, which were devoured. And they both entertained my guests. A fun time here and I wish them well on their future travels.

This was our first-ever Workaway experience, and we couldn't have asked for a better one. We spent two amazing weeks with Howard in June, and it was truly unforgettable.
We helped Howard clean and repair his garage after a flood left it all muddy. We learned to break pallets and used pallet planks to repair and restore an old balcony deck. We
… read more built an outdoor table using pallets and an old glass door Howard had. He taught us how to use all the tools correctly, was patient with us and provided a space for learning and failing, and valued our opinions and ideas. Because of that we were able to handle the tools with skill and confidence and we are proud of the work we did together. And it was a lot of fun.
The daily schedule was clear but not overly strict. We had breakfast and then worked a couple of hours. Then it was time for the mandatory and much needed coffee break, where we had some great conversations before diving back into the second work session. Afterwards we had lunch together and the afternoon was ours to do what we wanted. On weekends, Howard kindly showed us to nearby villages and events making our time in the Dordogne region even more amazing.
Howard’s place is fantastic. Surrounded by nature, you can enjoy the peace and calmness of the Dordogne. We had a spacious room with outside access, and our own dedicated bathroom, which made us feel right at home and incredibly comfortable.
Howard, you were exceptional. Funny, insightful and a great storyteller. We loved getting to know you and your friends. We will always cherish the memories we made with you and the lessons we learned during our stay. We are lucky to have met you, we wish you all the best and we hope our paths cross again.
To other workawayers, we wholeheartedly recommend staying with Howard. You won’t regret it.

Analia and Juanchi are simply amazing. They stayed with me for 2 weeks in June 23 and we all felt at home together. We worked in the garden, repaired a little wooden balcony and made a pallet wood table for 8 people. They got to use the carpentry tools like professionals, carefully followed instructions and I was able to leave them unsupervised
… read more from time to time. They were respectful of my space and property and made sure the kitchen was clean and tidy. They also interacted with my friends - were engaging and funny. We did some trips to Perigueux and Brantome, went to the village fete and bonfire and enjoyed coffee in other people's houses. I thoroughly recommend Analia and Juanchi to other hosts looking for an exceptional couple. And I wish them well for the future.

If it's possible to find model Workawayers, Angélique and Nelson are the ones. I so enjoyed having them to stay and help on my garden projects. They were respectful of my property, attentive when learning new skills and using new equipment, hard working, skilful and they laughed at my silly jokes and stories. They showed versatility and attention
… read more to detail. We had a laugh at mealtimes and they gave me some space in the evenings. I wanted to repair and paint my shutters - they carefully removed the metalwork, sanded the wood and then painted each shutter. They managed to use entire pots of paint without spilling a drop. The new shutters look fantastic and are their forever mark on the property.
During their stay I had a flood after a severe rainstorm - they worked like Trojans with me, moving furniture to clean the muddy patches underneath and helping put the place back in order. Nelson then built a flood defence wall to prevent future flooding. Complete with Ginger's footprints on top.
I sincerely recommend Angélique and Nelson to other hosts - a really lovely couple and perfect Workawayers.

Staying with Howard was a super experience! :)
During the time we spent with him, we've done lots of great projects together. We learnt how to use different tools to work with wood pallets, we made a wood gate, renovated shutters, planted flowers and vegetables, helped Howard making the top of a wood box and so on.
Howard is a patient person who

Coffee breaks, lunches and dinners were always a pleasure sharing stories, life's souvenirs, chatting.

His house was really comfortable, well organised, clean and lovely.
We hope to meet him again sometime with Ginger the cat!Só é possível entrar em contato com Workawayers com assinaturas ativas.

Howard is an exceptional host, showing attentiveness and politeness at all times. He resides in a charming house with a beautiful garden. Additionally, Douchapt's location is incredible, and we had bicycles at our disposal to explore the nearby towns.
