We were incredibly lucky to have Denise stay with us as a Workawayer – and what can we say: she was a huge help on all levels!
With a great attitude, initiative, and lots of energy, she contributed to a wide variety of tasks: mucking out the horse stables, repairing fences and pulling electric lines, helping with our social farming project, and
… read more assisting with both setting up and clearing away our flea market.
The main focus during her stay, however, was working on the renovation of our old half-timbered house – a long-term project that will take place over the course of two years. She supported us tremendously in this area: carefully and thoroughly removing old paint, laying and mortaring clay bricks, stapling straw into timber frames, preparing clay, and oiling wooden beams. She pitched in wherever help was needed, always with motivation and a smile.
She was absolutely reliable, easy-going, and always stuck to everything we agreed on – a truly dependable and straightforward person to have around.
And of course, we have to mention Winz, her dog. Calm, friendly, and incredibly well-behaved around all our animals – geese, rabbits, sheep, horses, cats, and dogs – there wasn’t a single problem. He also got along wonderfully with all the people here on the farm.
We would welcome Denis (and of course Winz!) back anytime. A fantastic Workawayer with heart, sense, and a ton of drive. Thank you so much for everything – you're always welcome here!

I stayed at the Kotthauser Hof for two weeks and am delighted. So much so that I've already planned my next stay.
A small, natural and communal paradise far enough away from the cold, capitalistic big city.
The small village is a wonderful place where community is a way of life, children playing on the large grounds are part of the overall
… read more picture, mutual support takes place, animals are lovingly cared for and activities are planned together.
I felt very welcome straight away, had lots of people to talk to and was able to get to know most of them personally over a delicious meal, so I quickly felt part of this community.
The half-timbered houses are beautiful and one of the oldest is currently being renovated. I learnt a lot about this style of building. I've mixed clay, made masonry, stapled straw, oiled wood, scraped off varnish and much more. Mostly in good company and every now and then an interested child was guided and allowed to join in.
I also helped with mucking out at the horse stable at my own request and was also in the garden planting potatoes, lettuce, etc.
The many animals rounded off my stay perfectly. Happy horses, sheep, geese, rabbits, cats and dogs. My own dog used his stay to win everyone's hearts by storm. Only the geese always had something to grumble about, despite his respectful behaviour. My personal highlight was the children's walks with the sheep. As a symbol of children being brought up in harmony with nature and the animal world.

Ich war im Aug-Sep 24 für ca. 6 Wochen in Kotthausen. In dieser Zeit wohnte ich in einem kleinen alten Zirkuswagen mit Blick auf die umgebende Landschaft. Es war wunderschön.

… read more knüpfen. Der freundliche Umgang miteinander war von gegenseitiger Wertschätzung geprägt.
Ich verbrachte die meiste Zeit mit Kalle in der Traktorwerkstatt. Ich half bei der Reparatur einiger Maschinen und anderen Dingen auf den Weiden.
Ich hatte eine sehr gute Zeit dort!!!!

I was in Kotthausen for about 6 week during Aug-Sep 24.
I was offered an old circus-wagon to live in, which was very nice, because it had a beautyfull view over the surrounding nature.
From the first moment I felt a warm wellcome by the people living in Kotthausen. They made it easy for me to get connected.
Most of my time I was helping Kalle repairing the machines used on the farm. I helped with other stuff as well.
I Highlight recomend staying with those very nice, warm hearded and good people in Kotthausen.

Karsten was staying at our farm for more than 6 weeks.
He is a very friendly and open person who gets in touch with people easily.
Karsten helped repairing farm machines for many hours, he put and repaired fences, took care of horses and helped out wherever help was needed. He started repairing a trailer aswell.
Karsten is a very independent

Karsten is a person who is also fine spending time by himself and cooked some real good meals.
As a workawayer we find him highly recommendable!

Victoria stayed with us for a week. She helped out in the house and with our horses team. She helped us cleaning public spaces and cook.
She took part in preparing a fiest and was always willing to give a hand, whenever needed.
