    Description

We are a couple, Magali & Hector, who have travelled their fair share, and we have made the leap from nomad to being guardians of a piece of nature.

We live in a rural area called Cañada de Alvarez, at the south end of the Calamuchita Valley, which is part of the Sierras Comechingones, in the Province of Cordoba, Argentina.

Our farm has 4 has, with a stream, and a lot of free space to reforest and restore biodiversity, which is one of our main goals. For that end we started having goats to help us control exotic invasive trees and to mow the lawn. And since we have them our long term project involves making goat cheese.

Also they are very loveable and friendly animals.

In a nutshell, our livinghood is a very simple one, shared with our goat pack, chickens and guinea fowl .

We have both been certified in Permaculture (in France) and Magali is a licensed organic agricultural farmer, with a specialization in medicinal & aromatic plants, so in our farm you can learn techniques for producing your food in dry places.

Since we both speak 3 languages fluently we like to teach them to volunteers, if they feel like it.

All kinds of manual skills would help us because this year we need to build a bigger house for our goats. The family is getting bigger !

We prefer to host for a minimum of 2 weeks, which can become more depending on the tasks at hand and our mutual experience.

We also prefer people who like to take care of animals, since some daily routines have to performed every day following a time schedule which is flexible but unavoidable, like putting animals out and in their predator-proof houses and feeding them.

We also expect collaboration regarding the cleaning of common areas, cooking and arranging.

During week days we prioritize infrastructure projects, but we keep the mix between routines and projects very flexible and sometimes it turns out to be unexpected, even for us, mainly because of veterinarian emergencies or weather.

As for water we are going through an extreme drought (ongoing for 2 years to this date), meaning that we only depend upon harvested rain water. This means that we manage water very carefully, and if possible, we ask volunteers to use their sleeping bags to avoid as much as possible having to wash bedding regularly.

    Hébergement

We have a spare room with 2 beds.

Our diet is mainly vegetarian but we are not strict about including meat in the menu from time to time.

In the case of special meals outside our regular supplies (like take away) and alcohol, we may ask volunteers to chip in.

    Autres infos...

We have a lot of books so reading is part of the entertainment. We also have a 4Gb storage composed by documentaries and films so we often do movie nights.

We are 10km from a really nice river to which we can go for a swim, and off-trail hiking is available in almost every direction. This is not a touristic area, so there are no signalized tourist-friendly trails.

We have a bicycle available for visitors.

There are no buses around, and the nearest village is at 12km, so if you decide to visit we will probably be able to pick you up at a village bus station (Berrotaran, La Cruz, Embalse i.e.).

Currently we don't a have a functional four-wheeled vehicle, so we manage logistics only with our motorcycle.
