Clelia and Nigel stayed with us for two weeks – and what a wonderful time it was!
From the very beginning, they blended into our daily life with warmth, openness, and a truly helpful spirit. They supported us in many ways: harvesting fruits and vegetables and helping with their processing, taking care of various gardening tasks – from weeding and
… read more mowing the lawn to pruning – and assisting with preparations for rebuilding an old well rim with fieldstones.
They also took wonderful care of our animals, especially our dog Sascha, who absolutely loved their attention and will surely miss them dearly.
Another highlight was our shared evening cooking sessions: we prepared fresh meals together every night, taking turns in the kitchen. Both cook fantastically and delighted us with great vegetarian dishes from Italian and French cuisine - a real treat! Not to be forgotten: Clelia is an enthusiastic yoga practitioner and gave me a little yoga introduction at the end. I really hope to be able to implement it in my everyday life <3
In their free time, they explored the surrounding area by bike, and we also enjoyed some lovely excursions together, visiting an old castle and a pilgrimage church. Our evenings we spent playing games and sharing music were especially memorable – filled with laughter, great conversation, and true connection.
We would be absolutely delighted to welcome Cleilia and Nigel back in the future – or perhaps visit them one day. We wholeheartedly recommend them as Workaway guests – reliable, kind, hardworking, and full of heart.

My friend Erik and I had simply the most fantastic time with Silvia and Uwe (and their loving, friendly dog Sasha) on their property in Kuhbier, Groß Pankow. We drove in from Berlin, and right away, as soon as we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and laughter, and their generous hospitality, open-minded friendliness and willingness to
… read more accommodate and go the extra mile told us we had made the right decision to help them on their land. We instantly clicked and fell right in to harmony and rhythm. We worked and cooked together, listened to and showed each other music, and by the time our week was over, our goodbyes were bittersweet because felt like we were leaving a little bit of newly-found family behind.
During our stay, we scoped the land, discussed and planned together, and finally decided to work on building a chicken coop by upcycling, restoring and re-using various leftover and salvaged materials as well as going to the hardware store and buying necessities as they arose.
We cleaned and brushed off salvaged fence posts, painted them, dug holes for them, and dug a shallow trench around the perimeter of the coop to bury a few inches of chainlink fence in order to avoid predators digging holes to get in. As we dug, we noticed there had been an old stone foundation about a foot deep under the grass, so we carefully dug and hauled stones out where needed, later to be used in combination with quick drying cement for the posts. We measured and drilled holes in the posts as soon as they were all up and the cement was dry, and went on to restore a chainlink fence to wrap around and secure to the fence posts outlining the enclosure.
Now and again we would take breaks, and Uwe would offer us snacks and refreshments which were welcomed gratefully as we stepped back and surveyed our work in the sun. We spoke about all kinds of things, laughing, discussing and telling each other stories. It was a wonderful opportunity for me to practice my German.
Silvia and Uwe let us borrow their bicycles to go explore the surrounding nature and neighboring towns, and they gave us great recommendations and advice. They also took us out on multiple occasions; to an musical event in a nearby town where we had lots of fun! We ate, drank, met people and sang. We were taken by Uwe to a bronze age festival and re-enactment where we also had a really wonderful time! We went to a neighboring town on the lakefront for a relaxed day eating, sightseeing and exploring. Silvia and Uwe truly went above and beyond to show us a good time and make us feel welcome and comfortable.
We worked in the garden as well, picking fresh strawberries every other day (with which Silvia makes fantastic marmalade—she also uses blackcurrant!) and we weeded, sowed seeds and watered. We also helped a friend of theirs with some cleaning, moving things and other chores at her house some miles away, where we were cooked for and had a great time, and in exchange, we took her chickens and gave them a new home in the newly built, predator-proof enclosure. (There were already fresh eggs the next day!)
Erik and I slept in a two bed camper at the end of their property, behind the garden and nearby an outhouse dry bathroom. They made sure all the necessary amenities were there, and we even had a little electric heater to warm the camper up on colder nights. We were so comfortable and slept so cozily in there, that at times it was hard to wake up in the morning, but the excitement of what a new day with our new friends would bring quickly got us up on our feet and ready to go.
Our time, although short, was packed with fun, hands-on work and activities, learning and cooperation. We became close both with Silvia and Uwe, their wonderful german-shepherd mix, and their cats. We enjoyed each others company thoroughly, often staying up late after dinner talking, laughing and sharing music and stories, along with lemonade, beer, and the occasional after dinner drink.
We could not more heartily recommend going and volunteering for Silvia and Uwe, as our week with them is cherished and will live forever in our memories. We love you guys!!
Thank you so much for having us, Aunt and Uncle, we look forward to coming back and seeing you again!

From 04 - 12. 06. 2024 Nico was a guest on our farm with his buddy Erik.
Together with the boys, we decided to rebuild our chicken enclosure as a project. The two not only contributed physically, but also with their own ideas. Within 4 days, we were able to build a new home for the chickens using old materials.
Around the campfire and while
… read more cooking together, Nico told us enthusiastically about his work as a musician and producer.
As an open-minded person who soaks up many cultural impressions, he had a lot of fun at a band evening in the next small town and a Bronze Age cultural performance.
They were also very enthusiastic about our garden. On the last day, we really got our hands dirty again and weeded, harvested and planted together. We talked intensively about horticulture and permaculture and ate kilos of strawberries.
We had a lively cooking exchange throughout their stay. Nico is a great cook and conjures up the most delicious dishes from a wide variety of cultures.
We will never forget his original mexican guacamole. We hope that we were able to give him a few recipe ideas along the way.
A particular highlight for the two was certainly, being able to take the first eggs from the "new" hens' laying nests.
Nico is multilingual and a great conversationalist. It's a pleasure to listen to him and get new input. His openness towards everything new makes it easy to integrate him into existing structures. He simply belongs right away and is right in the middle of things. I would particularly like to mention that he is very smart, extremely polite and helpful.
Having a guest like Nico with you is like winning the lottery.
And together with Erik it was the jackpot for us!
We wish Nico wonderful encounters and positive experiences on his "workaway journey". And if he comes our way again, he is always very welcome.

Feedback
