I spent a very pleasant week with Robyn & Simon, two adorable and very welcoming people. The work was mainly garden maintenance and storing wood for the winter. It was a pleasure to be able to help them with this task.
The living space provided was a mini apartment independent of the house, sunny and very comfortable.

We enjoyed Kevin's company and he was great to have around. He helped us with the garden as well as helping with painting two bedrooms. Kevin is polite, friendly and willing to learn new skills.

I spend a wonderful week and a few days with Robyn and Simon. They were welcoming from the start and amazing hosts! Luckily during my stay the weather was pretty nice so I spend much of my time in the garden getting it ready for the summer! … read more care of me when my British skin was munched by the local mozzies and made sure I had plenty of delicious food! Both Simon and Robyn are great cooks and I learn a few recipes myself while I was there. They also advised of local walks and places to visit, introduced me to some Kiwi culture and even helped me plan the rest of my trip around New Zealand.

It was a pleasure having Max to stay. He fitted in well with us and with all the family. He was great company and enjoyed participating in our family events.

I had the pleasure to stay with Simon and Robyn for a week over Christmas. It was a spontaneous stay and I loved every second of it. I was treated like family and even got small presents on Christmas morning. I got to know many members of their family.

… read more dinner were accompanied by inspiring conversations and laughter. Simon is an awesome cook but he admitted himself that Robyn is better at making gravy. I really enjoyed helping him preparing meals.
The private space I had was more than I could have asked for.
Something that became like a ritual was watching a series on Netflix together every evening.

We spent a week enjoying the company of Robin and Simon. They are excellent hoster, the house is very well distributed so that the workaway has its own space and privacy .The house is very well located, you can walk to the town and the beautiful beach.

I stayed 3 weeks with Robyn and Simon. 2 weeks were spent helping around the house inside (general chores involving cleaning) and outside(gardening, getting the patio ready for summer, raking leaves, etc.) and 1 week housesitting for them. For any potential hosts: Robyn and I can thoroughly recommend Audrey. She's a hard, versatile and conscientious volunteer (we had to insist she take a break at times), and very enjoyable company. During her time with us, she cleaned up our garden, water-blasted our back deck area (which is a BIG
… read more job), totally cleaned our kitchen inside and out, chopped wood, weeded, swept.. and just generally got on with anything she was asked to do, as well as using her initiative to do things that we hadn't even thought about.
I'm not sure that she was even aware of it, but one thing I particularly noticed about Audrey was her sensitivity to our needs. What I mean by that is that, while she participated and engaged fully with us socially and as a valued member of our household, she also seemed to make an effort to recognise when we might just need a bit of space to ourselves. It can be a fine line to tread as a guest in someone else's home, and Audrey got it just right.
All the best for the rest of your travels, Audrey. I hope you find plenty of hosts who deserve to have you. :-)

Katja and Frederik came to stay with us at short notice after another Workawayer pulled out at short notice due to illness. We couldn't have been happier at the way things turned out. These two friendly and outgoing young people fitted in with us from the moment they arrived.
One of the main areas we were wanting help in was in caring for my 92
… read more year old mother who has dementia. Katja and Frederik demonstrated genuine empathy, sensitivity and compassion in their dealings with Mum, and she responded really well to them both (she would often say, with a twinkle in her eye, that she thought Frederik was "a bit of all right"). :)
As well as helping with Mum, Katja and Frederik were very flexible and always keen to help out around the house in any way they possibly could. They fitted in as part of the family right from the start, and were a lot of fun to get to know over the time they stayed with us.
Robyn and I thoroughly enjoyed having them here (as did Mum, although, of course, she doesn't remember that she did), and we would happily recommend them to any hosts looking to take on Workaway helpers.
Frederik and Katja are here in New Zealand for about 9 months and want to use that time to get to know as many different people and places as possible. We wish them every possible success for their time here and hope that all their Workaway stays will be as wonderful for them and their hosts as our experience was.
