Hi, I'm Veera!

I am a 23-year-old Finnish university student currently doing a 6-month exchange semester in Brisbane, Australia. I love meeting new people, DIY and outdoor activities so I thought Workaway could be a great way for me to explore new places. I am open to different types of volunteering, such as farm work, hospitality and sustainability projects. The most important thing for me is to find a caring community and learn new skills along the way.

I am a smiley and optimistic person, who loves to stay active, try new things and experience different cultures. I have traveled around Europe with my family and friends and I love backpacking culture. I've solo travelled in Singapore and Bali, and I'm thrilled to get to continue my slow around the world trip with new countries!

I enjoy being active and I'm always trying out new sports. My newest interests are indoor rock climbing and surfing, but I also love hiking, dancing and cycling.

Since the first year of university, I have immersed myself in volunteer work in my student vommunity. I love organizing and helping out with dinner parties, group trips and other community events. I have worked on DIY projects such as benches and large art installations, and also developed my social media skills by posting for student associations accounts.

I have never before done volunteer work abroad but I really hope to find a host, where I can feel right at home and meaningfully contribute towards a common goal :)

Quais são suas habilidades?

I am competent in many different skills in farm and service work and I love learning new ones!

I have experience in farm work at my aunt's farm that has large hay fields, vegetable gardens and many different animals (goats, chicken, dogs, horses). I love working with and learning about animals and self-sufficient farming practices.

I also have broad experience in customer service. I have worked as a shift manager at a multi-functional gas station that provided fast food, lunch buffet, car rental and car wash services. I learned enormously on the job about good customer service, efficient multitasking and handling serious responsibilities, such as car rental agreements.

Teaching is also a big interest of mine. In Finland, I have taught little kids (2-8-year-olds) to ice skate and worked as a teaching assistant on many different university courses, as I am an IT engineer by education. My IT education has made me comfortable with working with new technologies and, for example, building websites from scratch.

And if this wasn't enough :) I love playing with different types of arts and crafts, such as painting, knitting and sewing, during my free time.
