Workawayers currently in Ireland leaving very soon! LOOKING FOR PROJECTS IN COLOMBIA AND ECUADOR:)

Hi everyone! My name is Noelia. Originally I'm from Bolivia and I grew up in Catalonia so I have both cultures in my heart ! I'm an active and responsible person who loves learning.
My passion is food since I'm very young. Thats why I studied Food Science and Technology. I'm really interested in fermentation and preserving food, I would love to learn more about edible and medicinal wild plants, seasonal cooking, different gardening methods and I can continue writing and writing but I don't want to be boring jajaja! Apart from food I'm also interested in other areas where I would like to work and explore. For example, I would like to work or help in associations that work with women with problems of gender violence.
The last 2 year I was in Cloughjordan Community Farm (Ireland) volunteering and after I decided to stay for summer / autumn season and I was working in 3 different places. In a small and local catering. In a Wedding house where I worked as a gardener and as a wait staff and in a local and organic dairy farm where I was making butter, kefir, bottling milk, labelling, etc.
Along my next travels I hope to meet new people and learn from their practices, techniques and ways of doing things whilst I soak up all their culture and contribute with a little bit of me in each place I stay :)

I am Jorge, I am from Malaga, Spain. I studied Business and Management, I was working as an assistant accounting and I enjoyed but I did not want to stay in the same place for a long term so I decided to move to discover other places. My first experience living abroad was in Poland for five months studying there. Since then I have been living in different places. I am an active and friendly person who loves playing football wherever I go. In 2021 I started a volunteering in a small village called Cloughjordan in Ireland working in a community farm. After a year when my project finished I moved to Uganda volunteering with a spanish NGO where I was giving support with administrative tasks for 6 months. In 2023 I start travelling with Noelia using Workaway trough Luxembourg and Germany.

As a couple we want to see the world, learn and grow personally from each experience we have before settling down. What we can say about us is that we area very social and cheerful couple but we also enjoy having our own space and time. We spend our free time going for a walk in the nature, visiting new places, doing sports, reading, cooking, watching movies, playing board games like catan, etc. We like the idea of living in a community, have a sustainable life and grow and eat food of good quality. We are looking to work in different kinds of jobs and of course to enjoy every moment.

Our dream to travel around South America is gonna become true since April, we are currently looking for projects in Colombia!

Quais são suas habilidades?
Noelia likes to work in busy enviroments, is able to teach english, spanish and catalan. She has a good knowledge about science food, she is a fast learner, she has good hands cooking, she is confidence. She likes to be a teamleader and teamplayer at the same time.
Jorge is good with computers, he has knowledge about administration, he is good doing sports, he is able to teach spanish and english basic grammar. He is flexible and likes to do different tasks. He is used to be around animals, he was a volunteer in an animal shelter.

We had a wonderful time there. We stayed for almost 2 months. As accomodation we have a tiny house where we have a bed and a desk which was very cozy. The kitchen and bathroom was shared. We helped mainly gardening, but we also gave them a hand in whatever they needed as painting, cleaning, cooking, construction, etc.

We had the pleasure of being Susanne and her family's first workawayers. From the beginning we felt very welcomed and loved by Susanne.

We help with household chorus, cooking, gardening and building a natural fence with tree branches.

Dear Kate;

It was a pleasure to be able to help you in what we could at your place. We stayed with Kate since begining of May until mid of July. It was a enrichable experience because we were looking for a project where we could learn about small business and expand our learning about flowers and herbs. We appreciate all the knowledge that Kate… read more shared with us and deep chats with her.

The tasks we did were cropping flowers and herbs, preparing the compost, removing weeds, trying to install the irrigation system, planting, sowing, watering and production (making salts, teas, dehydrating flower petals, flower pressure, etc.) The period of time that we were there was summer when Kate was having big loads of work and she was very stressful about that. At the same time we felt that stress on us. Sometimes we considered she was not patient enough.

The accomodation was very cozy and comfortable. We loved to have our own bathroom inside our room. There were another workawayers that were living with Kate at the same time. We liked to meet another workawayers and hanging out with them.

Kate was very flexible and understandable with the days we could work, since we combine workaway with our work in the restaurant. For her was really important to reach to the minimum of 24 hours per week. We normally worked 3 days 8 hours every day and then the rest of the week we didn’t have any obligation. We liked a lot that idea of being 3 days really productive feeling that we were helping her.

We really like how Kate organize the cleaning system of the kitchen and the rota for cooking. Once per week one of us cook for everyone and once per week someone had to clean the kitchen. On the weekends everyone cooked for themselves. We learnt new tasty meals from Kate and James. They are some fantasctic cooks. They went to shopping once or twice per week to get the groccery. They asked us if we needed anything special and there was always food in the fridge. We really liked that Kate does not like to waste food and she was always checking if something was going to be spoiled.

They provided us some bycicles to use in our free time. we were very independent in our free time.
Kopstal is a town near Luxembourg city, 20 minutes by bus, where you have a close public transport and some restaurants where you can go for a dinner or having a drink. Hobscheid, where it is, is 20 minutes by car from Kopstal.

We admire Kate for her strenght and ability of carrying a bussiness by her own.

Noelia & Jorge worked extremely hard in our gardens.They also planted some vegetables whilst staying with us. They also made some fantastic meals. They are both very kind and thoughtful. They will be missed. Wishing you both good luck with your next adventures..

Dear MDJJ;

Thank you so much for all these 4 months that we stayed with you. It was a pleasure for us to have our first experience through WorkAway with you, we felt very lucky. We stayed with them 2 times, once since February until May, the second was the last 2 weeks of July. We asked them if we could stay again with them because we felt like… read more home.

The main task were helping with the building of the third floor of the main house, since building up the walls with clay planks to level the floor. At the end of our experience we could do some building work slowly but indepently. We loved to learn about that and from the Master of Clay and Dennis. We aprecciate how patient and clear was Dennis when he had to explain a task. The atmosphere of work was very enjoyable.

We also helped them doing some work in the basement and in their orchard doing some pruning, planting, weeding, making beds, moving compost, harvesting. We could do some preserving with some fruits that they had from last season and from the new season. Daily we helped them tidying and cleaning the kitchen.

They went to shopping once per week and they always ask us if we needed something. There was not rota for cooking but it was very natural and fair. We loved to try all the meals typicall from Luxembourg that Mira made for us.

None of us count the hours that we worked every week, but we tried to work around 20 and 25 hours per week. We found a job during our stay in some restaurants in the city, they were very comprehensive, flexible and really helpful. Thank you so much about that.

To live with everyone was very easygoing, They had a good communication with us, we really appreciate when they had some time to plan our 2 next following weeks so we could organize our free time. We loved spending time playing with the kids, they are so cute and friendly little boys.

It was really nice to have some advices from Mira about how to get a job, she has a good knowledge about the history of Luxembourg and where to go for a walk around Lux. We enjoyed teaching some spanish to Dennis although he was very able to speak and understand spanish before we arrived. It was nice to see how Julian improved his english since our arrival.

We felt part of the family since the beggining, they brough us to events where we could meet their families. We enjoyed playing new boarding games with Dennis and going outside to play. We went to watch Julian ice-skating, watching the Cabalgata of Diekirch, we went to have dinner together outside several times. We joined Dennis to the Circus once. It was nice for us because we never did it before.

After we finish our experience with them we keeped contact and we met several times before we joined their project again.

Eppeldorf is a small village where you have lovely trails where you can go for a walk but you don’t have any pub around. The good thing is that it has a good and free public transport. You can be in Luxembourg city in 1 hour and 15 minutes. The last bus to come back home from the ciy was at 22:10 to arrive at 23:34.

To sum up, we were very happy to meet the family and we wish you all the best and hope to meet you again!
