Hello! My name is Maya and I am on my gap year travelling through Central America before I go to university later on this year to study biology in England.
I was drawn to Central America because of its incredible culture, but also it's biodiversity, which led me to volunteering for three months in Costa Rica at an eco lodge right in the jungle. I learnt so much about the local wildlife and gave tours to guests to pass on this knowledge. I would love to do this elsewhere because learning about niche environments and the ways wildlife is specific to places really fascinates me.
I prefer to go with the flow than plan ahead as things end up happening in great and sometimes unexpected ways that can lead to amazing experiences. I really enjoy staying in places long enough for me to enjoy my surroundings beyond the initial glance.
I have done a couple of workaways before: working on a flower and herb farm in the czech republic and on a horse sanctuary in nicaragua. Both were amazing insights into local life that really beats staying in hostels all the time. I love to experience and learn about culture as much as I can!

I have worked in many jobs that involve customer service, such as: waitressing, working in a local bakery, volunteering in a charity shop, a festival, and a zero waste store, and also volunteering in an eco lodge in Costa Rica for three months. At the eco lodge in Gulfo Dulce, I gave in depth wildlife tours to guests in the rainforest and gulf.
I love making things with my hands and learning new skills. I know a little spanish and french but would love to learn more (or any other language!)
