Hi Workaway! My name is Laila and I'm spending the next year (Autumn 2025 - Autumn 2026) backpacking throughout South America and volunteering while working on my Spanish!

A bit about me: I'm from California, but I’ve also lived in Germany, the UK, and in Boston. Most of my work experience has been in the non-profit sector, supporting refugees and homeless individuals, but I've also worked in food service, retail, as a teacher, and reception at a hostel, so I’m comfortable working in many different environments and pitching in wherever help is needed! For me, this year is all about learning new skills and getting to know new people and environments, so I'm open to any type of work. I'll also be working on my applications to get my master’s degree in sustainable development, so I'm interested in supporting any eco or conservation projects!

I’m happiest doing any outdoor activity, such as hiking, biking, or surfing, but I also love to sew, draw/paint, dance, bake, and take photos with my film camera. I'm a very social and easygoing person, and I'm looking forward to connecting with new people!

Quais são suas habilidades?

Customer Service & Social Work: I have experience in most customer service roles - from food service, to front desk at a hostel, to retail. I'm very outgoing, and I love working with and getting to know new people. I have worked at two non-profits, supporting refugees and adults experiencing homelessness with getting back into work. Through these jobs, I have experience teaching, doing community engagement, and interviewing/writing.

Creativity/Art: I love to draw, paint, and sew, and have a film camera I take with me everywhere. I'd be happy to support any projects or businesses with promoting their work on social media.

Although I don't have too much experience with gardening or farm work, it is something I am eager to try out and learn more about. I love being outside and working with my hands, so I'd love to support any eco-projects or conservation work.

More than anything, I am an open-minded and easygoing person. I would love to learn new skills and am open to just about any type of work. I can't promise that I will be a master at any new skill, but I can promise that I will be a curious, hardworking, and fun person to work with!
