Hi!
My name is Kristyna and I was born in the Czech Republic. Currently I study data analytics at a university. I am friendly, open-minded, and easygoing in my nature. My biggest passion is travelling. It's the best way how to get to know a culture and people from all around the world and this is the reason I am here on Workaway. Furthermore, I would like to learn various skills that can be useful in my life.
I have many hobbies. For example I have been volunteering in a cat shelter for the past 3 years. I believe that everyone should do good deeds in whatever field and I chose this. It's an activity that calms my soul and makes me sincerely happy. My other hobby is learning languages. For the past year I have been learning them on a daily basis. Otherwise I am a curious person so I am interested in many things and I always try to learn something new. Currently I would love to experience a calm environment in harmony with nature.

Quais são suas habilidades?
I have been volunteering in a cat shelter for the past 3 years. My main tasks were cleaning rooms and cages, feeding cats and giving them medication, helping people choose the right cat for them, and from time to time representing the shelter at some events and finding alternative ways how to get some money for the shelter. Once, I had an idea that earned our shelter over 500 000 CZK (20 000 €) and it saved the existence of the shelter.
Also, I spent almost half an year at the farm of my friend during lockdown. I helped them with some tasks. I helped them with wood stacking, caring for the animals, watering the plants, cleaning the house and garden, and with other things that were needed.
I love cooking and I learned it when I was 14 when I became vegetarian. Since then I have been cooking several times per week.
I had a part-time job in a fastfood for over 4 years to be able to travel. I was first abroad without my parents when I was 15. I have done 4 work aways so far and learned many useful skills.

I recommend this place to every animal lover that came across this profile! I stayed in this shelter for 2 weeks and I am so happy I could be there. It's a place which gives the animals a second chance for a life as most dogs and cats would die on the streets if there weren't the workers and donators whose job I really appreciate. I would like give a detailed description to all future volunteers.

Tasks
Usually my daily routine consisted of washing the bowls in the morning at a beautiful place with view on the mountains followed by cleaning this place. Later I walked the dogs and than cooked a meal for everyone in the shelter. Other extra tasks I did were giving cats and dogs medication, accompanying Kris to a vet, feeding the animals, and grooming the dogs. As a reward you get endless amount of cuddles from all the animals! The work started at 8 am and finished by 12 pm but you can adjust your the working hours as long as you complete the four hours per day and also you can choose between different tasks.

Place
The shelter consist of 2 small houses for the workers and volunteers and backyard for the animals. The place is completely washed twice per day so it is as clean as possible when you have over 100 animals. You will stay in a simple room with a bunk bed.

Location
The shelter is located at a beautiful mountain close to Cebu. As your job will most likely end by 12:00 you are going to have more then enough time to explore the whole Cebu. The closest jeepney stop is 25 minutes by feet or you can use a mototaxi to get there. From there you can get to the center just for a few pesos.

Food
You always have an access to different types of vegetables, fruit, and of course a lot of rice ;) Meat isn't provided so if you want it you must buy (but this makes it a good place for vegetarians). The workers usually cook for everyone but sometimes you might need to prepare food yourself. If you want you can be the one preparing the food for everyone but it's optional.

Host
I met the owner Dan for only a few days but I could see he is a good person that is prepared to help the animals no matter how much effort it costs. Furthermore, I want to thank Kris for telling me and teaching me about the shelter and for showing me many beautiful places in Cebu.
