Hello!

My name is Josiah — I'm a 26 year old filmmaker from the heartland of the USA. I live in New York City, where I work as a carpenter and scenic artist all around the city. I spend a good deal of my time surrounded by friends I love, that inspire and encourage the best parts of myself to always be improving in all facets of life.

I got to do two Workaway opportunities a couple summers ago and I think about them all the time. Since then, I've settled in New York City, but I'm very eager to do some more traveling this winter/year! I love hands-on work like woodworking and painting — or any kind of renovation project. I consider myself a versatile worker and am most fulfilled by making an impact in peoples lives, and I'm looking forward to doing that alongside all different kinds of people.

I'm most interested in a Workaway adventure where I can spend time alongside other Workawayers from around the world! Outside of the days of work, I love spending time hanging out, sharing stores, recipes, ideas, jokes, card games, projects, etc. with whoever else has been drawn to the same place.

I'm always drawn or a place or adventure that seems unfamiliar or a step out of my comfort zone. I believe places and experiences like that are where we grow the most as people — and guide us on a path to being better able to support and love others.

I'm also very dedicated to my passions like writing and reading. These things have always served as the basis for my happiness and I really enjoy sharing this time with others.

Outside of the time I like to spend on projects, I'm also very active. One of my favorite things to do is bike around the city, finding new places to explore.

Quais são suas habilidades?

I have all sorts of work experience surrounding construction, carpentry, painting, and more. I've worked on huge job sites all over my home state of Iowa. The past two years I've lived in New York City where I've worked as a filmmaker, scenic artist, stagehand, producer, carpenter, and a production assistant.

I'm always down for some of the more gritty work that really takes time and dedication. Because the pay off at the end of the day of sitting around sharing laughs always makes it worth it.

I love movies, music, and literature. Often when I meet somebody, I ask about their favorite movie or book or song. It can tell you so much about how they see the world and it's also a great way to discover more incredible art.

I love animals of all kinds! I have a dog myself - she won't be joining me on my travels but I mention it to say I'm very familiar with animal care.
