Hi, I'm Chiara! I currently live in New York City in the USA, but I've also lived in Spain and Italy and have traveled extensively throughout the world.
I love to create, and I could also say that I live to create. I've spent most of my life working on various forms of visual art and music. Piano is my main instrument, and I also enjoy recording and producing music for fun. Currently, I've been focusing on jewelry making and resin art, and I'm running my own small business to sell my work. You can check out some of it on my Etsy page: https://chiarascurajewelry.etsy.com. I always appreciate experiencing and learning about artists' work of all kinds!
My desire to create extends to starting new ventures and building programs to improve global systems and help people. I'm particularly passionate about establishing equitable access to nutritious foods and quality healthcare locally and globally. I have a Bachelor's degree in International Relations with a concentration in global health, nutrition, and the environment. I also received minor degrees in Food Systems/Nutrition and Entrepreneurship. I've worked and volunteered in positions within various parts of the food system, including a farm, a farm stand, a grocery store, merchandising for a grocery delivery startup, and multiple restaurants. I plan to apply my degree and experiences to a long-term career in food systems work. My dream is to start a nonprofit that uses agroecology to establish food sovereignty within a community. In my current 'day job,' I work remotely on a global health project called PMI Evolve, which focuses on research and vector control to prevent the spread of malaria. My work involves supporting local teams in 23 countries (each in different stages of malaria elimination) throughout Africa and Southeast Asia.
I've always had the urge to see as much of the world as I can, and I've done my best to act on my desire to the extent that my finances have allowed. I enjoy entrenching myself in a community for an extended time to become familiar with local living. Much of my creative inspiration has come from talking, collaborating, partying, and exploring with people from backgrounds and perspectives that differ from my own. Abandoning my comfort zone to put myself in unfamiliar situations and places never fails to expand my mind beyond what I thought possible. I believe that some of the most innovative ideas and meaningful relationships can result from such cultural exchange.
Some other things about me:
-I'm a native English speaker but greatly enjoy learning other languages. I lived in Spain with a host family for a year, so I was once almost fluent in Spanish, but sadly I have lost a lot of my proficiency over the years. I would love to practice my Spanish with native speakers and try to become fluent once again!
-I'm a foodie and I love trying and learning about new cuisines, especially when traveling. I will try just about anything I'm given! I also have a big love for beer of all types.
-I love spending time exploring nature and doing outdoor activities like climbing, hiking, kayaking/canoeing, and backpacking; I've backpacked through a portion of the Appalachian Trail on the east coast of the USA.
-I'm interested in physical and mental wellness techniques, and I can say that I've at least learned a lot about the physical side. I've been regularly practicing yoga (mainly vinyasa and Bikram) on and off for 10 years, and it has helped me recover from multiple injuries. Through yoga, physical therapy, and research, I've become well-versed in the workings of the musculoskeletal system and how to identify and improve various ailments. I often give massages and stretching/exercise advice to friends, and I think that I'd enjoy becoming a physical therapist if I didn't have some of my more dominant interests. I'd like to get into meditation, but so far I've found it pretty difficult for my ADHD brain to handle :)
-I'm a chronic collector, and I love scavenging for items (both natural and man-made) to add to my various collections. My main one is fossils, as I was obsessed with them as a kid and still enjoy looking for them wherever they are abundant.Interesses

I used to be close to fluent in written and spoken Spanish after studying it in school and living in Spain for a year. I've lost a lot of my proficiency over the years, especially in speaking, and I would like to get some of my fluency back by talking with native Spanish speakers.Habilidades e conhecimento para compartilhar ou aprender

Quais são suas habilidades?
-I am a multi-disciplinary artist, and I have experience with all kinds of visual art and music-making techniques. My current focus is on making 'functional' art, mainly jewelry and resin decor items, and last year I started a small business to sell my work. You can check out some of it on my Etsy page (https://raysoflife.etsy.com)! My love for making art also extends to crafting, decorating, and building projects. I would love to apply my skills to contribute to artistic and hands-on work as needed, such as painting a mural or building functional structures and items.
-I’ve dedicated much of my academic and professional career to understanding the workings of the global food system, and I'm particularly passionate about sustainability and establishing equitable access to nutritious foods on a local and global scale. I have a Bachelor's degree in International Relations with a concentration in global health, nutrition, and the environment, and I also received a minor in Food Systems and Nutrition. My academic experience taught me about the deep-rooted issues within the global food system and how to find leverage points within the system to incite change. I studied small-scale agricultural techniques, affordable and accessible produce distribution tactics, and methods to educate others about the food system and reduce the spread of misinformation.
I've worked and volunteered in positions within various parts of the food supply chain. My experiences include cultivating and training volunteers at an urban farm, managing operations at a small farm stand, fulfilling orders at a grocery store, building local partnerships and merchandising for a grocery delivery startup, and service and food prep at multiple restaurants. These experiences have taught me about the work and resources required to maintain a small-scale farm, the process some farmers follow to sell their produce locally, and how to identify the type, storage conditions, and ripeness of different varieties of produce. I’ve also learned about the substantial loss of quality and freshness that occurs when transporting produce over long distances and the vast quantity of waste that occurs during every step of the food supply chain. I plan to apply my degree and experiences to a long-term career dedicated to improving the food system. My dream is to start a nonprofit that uses agroecology to establish food sovereignty within a community. In the meantime, I’m hoping to learn more about farming techniques, and I would love to help with anything food or farming-related.
-My academic and professional experiences have also given me the skills to start, run, and grow a new venture. I’ve done so on a small scale with my jewelry business, for which I do everything from creating products to delivering them through various sales channels. In addition to running my own business, I have a lot of experience working and interning for other businesses of small and large scale, mostly in growth marketing. The projects I’ve worked on include building a social media presence for a small business, SEO for a large company, and designing and managing creative campaigns to attract new customers to a rapidly growing startup. My true passion is in nonprofit work, and I’ve applied my marketing and communications knowledge to internships at multiple nonprofits as well. I’d be happy to help with any business or marketing-related tasks if needed.
-I have a lot of experience with physical wellness techniques. I've been regularly practicing yoga (mainly vinyasa and Bikram) on and off for more than 10 years, and I have not yet been certified as an instructor but I plan to do so in the next few years. Through yoga, physical therapy, and academic training, I've become well-versed in the workings of the musculoskeletal system and how to identify and improve various ailments. I often give massages and stretching/exercise advice to friends, and I am happy to do so for anyone who would benefit from it.
-I’m experienced in customer service in various settings, including multiple types of retail and hospitality. I also have management experience, which has taught me how to be an effective team leader and participant.Idade

I love to read and listen to audiobooks, especially in the sci-fi and thriller genres. I also love listening to music, playing piano on my own or with a band, and composing/producing songs for fun. I enjoy trying new foods from other cuisines and learning to cook new dishes. My chronic curiosity drives me to seek out adventures and opportunities to explore wherever I go (in both natural and urban environments). I particularly enjoy learning from locals about hidden or lesser-known spots to visit.
