UPDATE:*I DON'T VOLUNTEER FOR ZIONISTS*

Greetings! My name is Carlos, I'm an artist from Spain. I've been feeling like a bit of a hermit lately, or maybe like an oyster that has been slowly closing shut. I'd like to change that and Workaway seems like the perfect opportunity.

From the outside looking in, I can appear a bit serious / intense at first, but in reality it's just shyness, I'm very friendly. I warm up pretty quickly once I spend some time with people. I'm very open-minded and I love getting to know others on a deeper level.

I'm happy to provide help with anything that's needed, whether it is everyday household chores, a language exchange or gardening, in which I have little experience, although I'm very intrigued by permaculture, aquaponics, vegan biodynamic agriculture (yes, it can be done completely vegan), electroculture, food forests and vegan regenerative farming, and even though I have no hands-on experience with these modalities other than very little electroculture (and very limited experience with gardening as a whole), I enjoy physical labor and I'm always eager to learn new skills(not just skills and knowledge related to plant growth and digging, but also other practical skills like carpentry, construction, sewing and dressmaking) and being able to contribute in any way I can.

Quais são suas habilidades?
I have some experience in teaching the two languages I'm fluent/native in, and as a translator. If you have something you would like to translate from English into Spanish or viceversa, I'll be glad to help, too.

I'm an artist and I work mainly with physical / analogue media, so if you'd like to practice some drawing, or painting, I'll also be more than happy to help as much as I can. If you have a story, or an idea, and you'd like me to illustrate it for you, we can see how it can be done.

I also have some basic knowledge of graphic design, so I could help with that as well, but it's not my area of expertise. Plus some basic video editing skills. Sculpture, and woodworking / stoneworking in particular are very enjoyable to me, but I'm no expert in these either.

I'm also good with children and animals, as I've spent my life around them constantly, playing with and caretaking them.

I can cook as well, I usually cook simple but satisfying plant-based meals.

Other than that, if there's any kind of physical activity or labor that doesn't require a high degree of specialization, I can engage in and help with. I'm also very interested in learning different construction techniques, if you have something that needs to be built and I can help and learn while doing so, I'd be more than happy to!

Some other things about me:

One of my biggest concerns is the growing lack of privacy and the increasing dystopian measures being taken by governments and corporations all over the world to limit, surveil and control human beings to nightmarish levels. There are many things that can be done on a personal level to increase privacy, freedom and be more resilient in general. I'm always glad to talk about solutions.

I'd love to learn music production, sewing/dressmaking as well as how to make fine jewellery.

Positives:
· Patty's cooking is pretty good.
· The landscape is beautiful.
· The animals are all lovely (I'm really going to miss them).
· You can learn construction techniques, like mixing cement.

Negatives:
· During the four days that I stayed with Patty and Hans I didn't learn a single thing about food forests, permaculture, edible / medicinal… read more plants or about gardening. Which is the main attraction being advertised. Instead, I chopped wood, carried wood, mixed cement and filled holes with cement, weeded out a patch of land and carried gravel and rocks around. I didn't mind doing all of that, and I did it with enthusiasm, but what's advertised is far from accurate.

· You don't really get to learn much about the local culture since Patty and Hans live pretty much in their bubble and seem to only interact with the local community for the bare minimum (although they do seem to interact with other Dutch expats living in Spain, so if you're interested in Dutch culture this might be a good place to visit). #redacted#, so this makes sense, even though they've been living in Spain for 4 years. Hans isn't interested in learning Spanish at all. If you're expecting to get immersed in Galician culture, this isn't the place for you.

All of the above was made completely irrelevant for me when I learned that they're #redacted# (after mentioning that I was boycotting certain corporations for their involvement in the Gaza genocide).
It was a huge shock to me as I definitely wasn't expecting to encounter foreign #redacted# hosts in Spain, #redacted# . This was the reason why the 2 week stay that we had initially agreed to had to be cut short. Upon learning this about them I couldn't stay any longer, so I ended up volunteering for them for 4 days, as I wasn't willing to stay another hour or be of any further help to people who claim that there is NO genocide going on in Palestine.

Had I known this beforehand, I'd had never come to their property. I guess it's on me for not asking beforehand, but I truly couldn't have imagined that this would be the case.

For me personally, that warrants a 1 star review, but if you're a #redacted# you might have no problem helping people who have no qualms with the genocide and mass murder of millions of people (most of which are children) in Palestine. That's why I'm leaving it at 2 stars, they might be worth your time depending on how morally bankrupt you happen to be.

Needless to say, my first workaway experience was quite jarring. Still, at least I got to experience Galicia for a bit after I left, and it truly is a wonderful region of Spain. People there are reserved but, from what little I could experience, very kind and generous. The landscapes are beautiful.
