Hi, I'm Alana :)

I'm a traveller from Australia with a passion for the arts, community and new experiences. I'm currently travelling around Europe and trying to find a place and community to call home.

One of my goals whilst travelling is to improve my skills in art, so I'm super keen to soak up as much inspiration, new knowledge and ideas as possible. I'm very community-driven, so I live for new conversation, perspective or experience. I love hiking, exploring new places, and anything creative or new to me!

I'd love to get involved in some community and creative projects, and connect with new and interesting people :)

I'm multifaceted and excited to help in any way I can (experience detailed below) -

I have multiple years' of experience working in hospitality, specifically as a bartender and Functions & Events coordinator. I also have 8 months of experience working across multiple hostels, as a social host, receptionist and housekeeper. Customer service is definitely a strong point of mine.

Back home, I've been a strongly rated au-pair, pet-sitter and tutor. I have experience working with and training reactive animals, specifically dogs. I understand how to care for pets and the responsibility it holds. I've received great reviews for my services and would absolutely love to be involved in the care of animals again. My experience in tutoring ranges from ages 6-18, specifically in maths and science, though I would be happy to teach English as well. I've also been a babysitter and an Au-Pair for a combined 5 or 6 months. I connect super well with kids, and have worked with infants, primary school children, and teenagers. I take pride in my care and love to create a good experience for all parties involved.

I am not afraid to get my hands dirty! If you need someone to garden, to rip up tiles, or any other odd jobs, I am confident that I am a good pick! I've done some work landscaping, cleaning/fixing up trailers and cars, and some gardening.

Quais são suas habilidades?

Hostels:

I have over 6 months' experience working and volunteering at hostels, most notably a highly-rated Berlin hostel.

The hostel often handled over 50 check-outs a day, and housekeeping duties involved changing bedsheets, vacuuming and mopping floors & common spaces, deep-cleaning drains and bathrooms, and any spot-cleaning or occasional deep-cleaning tasks required to maintain a high standard of cleanliness throughout the hostel. Guest laundry had to be completed (washed and dried) within three hours of being handed in, and this was constantly monitored on shift.

Social shifts consisted of welcoming new check-ins and giving a tour, and promoting and running social events of groups of up to 50 people. Social events included cooking family dinners, running drinking games or board games night, and organising group outings to popular spots around the hostel.

I also have bit of experience working on the reception desk as well - handling new bookings, customer inquiries by email and room layout.

Hospitality:

I have over four years of experience working in hospitality, most notably in Functions & Events Management and Duty Management at a distillery & cocktail bar back home. I'm super passionate about mixology, and I worked mainly as a bartender. I also assisted with the planning and coordination of large functions (up to 150 people), including corporate events, large scale birthday parties, and some weddings. I love talking to people, and customer service is definitely a strong trait of mine.

Gardening/Landscaping:

Growing up, my family hopped around Australia renovating houses, so I've always been helping out a little in the background. When I was younger, I helped with weeding and landscaping, and learned most of the basics of gardening. I have experience with painting and plastering, as well as a lot of experience with DIY. I've built a chicken enclosure, guinea pig enclosure, a cubby house and multiple smaller DIY projects as well. As a creative person, I would love to help bring some visions to life :) I also have experience with refurbishing trailers and cars - detail-cleaning, fixing cracks in leather, sanding over and stopping rust spread, polishing and repainting. I have experience using many tools and am happy to learn to safely use any new ones. I'm not afraid of dirt or grime, and am pretty much up for any practical work you can throw my way.

Childcare:

I've worked in daycares, as a tutor, babysitter and au-pair, and would love to be involved in childcare as I travel.

I've worked as an au-pair, living with a London family for two months, where my role included school pickups and drop-offs, homework help, mealtime help, organising outings with the children, and more. I looked after 3 children aged 6, 8 and 12, and really loved being able to do so. I also have multiple years of experience babysitting, and have a recent police-check.

I have two years of experience as a freelance Maths and Science tutor, teaching high-level Maths and Science to students anywhere between 6 and 18. I received lots of positive feedback, with many students showing improvement almost immediately as a result of my classes (and their hard practise).

Art/Murals

In my free time, I am an artist, so I would absolutely love the opportunity to create something for your space! I usually work in smaller formats, but have some experience painting larger canvases, or murals. As well as drawing and painting, I also make recycled paper and am practising bookbinding at the moment!
