Hello, we are Shan and Chan! :)
A couple of explorers in a dedicated partnership.

We met in 2022 during the ten week Holistic Sustainability Semester at Lost Valley Education Center, where we studied permaculture design, eco village design and intentional community living. It was a transformational experience, and also where we fell in love! Since then we have traveled the world together and enjoyed opportunities to learn more in these areas and share our gifts! Workaway has been one of the ways we have enjoyed doing this.

Shannon's Description:
I am an explorer at heart, I love how traveling brings me so many opportunities to learn, grow and share; exposing me to different ways of life and new experiences.

My interests are in permaculture, conscious communication (NVC), natural building, holistic health, and all things that contribute to the well-being of life on this beautiful planet. I have certification in Permaculture Design, Eco Village Design, Yoga, and Thai Massage, though I consider myself an ongoing student in them all, with still much to learn! I also practice Qi Gong and Tai Chi, which I'm open to sharing with those who are interested.
I have experience in starting a tourism-focused business from scratch with all that entails; from designing promotional materials to website content and managing all aspects of customer communications, etc. I've worked for years in administrative and customers service roles. Additionally I have helped manage Airbnb/ retreat centre, tending to guests needs as a live-in caretaker/cleaner, and have volunteered at other retreat centres doing multiple roles. I am a trained painter, have worked in a plant nursery, and done a fair bit of gardening. I'm happy to help out with these kind of tasks, and enjoy learning new things too.
I get a lot of pleasure from being creative and contributing to others' creations.

Chandler's Description:
Hello! My name is Chandler, and I'm ready to explore the world! I have an insatiable curiosity, and I love to adventure, explore, and learn everything I can. I'm constantly seeking wisdom and experience for living in harmony with the natural world and promoting the health and balance of myself and others. I study and practice a variety of topics, such as permaculture, nutrition, organic gardening, eco-friendly architecture, herbalism, music, art, game design, writing, yoga, tai chi, meditation, and many more in my quest to gain a holistic perspective of myself and the world. I have much experience with conservation, fire prevention, working with plants, communication, and music! I've done little traveling in my life, but now I'm ready to learn from the many perspectives beyond my home, and see the world at large!

Shannon's Skills/ Experience
I have experience in business creation and management, design, administration, customer service, gardening, working in a plant nursery, natural building technics, habitat for humanity build, interior painting, house keeping for AirBNB and Retreat Centre, sales and fundraising. I am also an artist, and so much more!

I have a personal practice of Qi-Gong, Meditation, and Yoga.

Education/Certification: Permaculture Design Course, Eco Village Design Course, Thai Massage, Yoga Teacher Training, Sound Healing, Non-Violent Communication Training

I also started a rock climbing school, and did all the work that entails, including administrative duties and marketing and design. I am happy to share my experience in this.



Chandler's Skills
Overall, I'm a very fast learner, and I'm a jack of all trades with experience in many fields, from communications and leadership, to writing, to landscaping, to gardening, to computers, to music, artistry, and more!

I am certified in Permaculture Design (PDC), Ecovillage Design (EDE) and Intentional Community Immersion (ICI). I have spent over a year living at Lost Valley Education Center, working as a land steward, a teacher, and a volunteer for the Board of Directors as both Vice President and President.

I have a lot of experience with gardening, farming, landscaping, and environmental conservation in non-profit organizations. Much of my work in the outdoors has been in wildfire prevention, mitigation, and restoration! I would love to share what I know to help communities around the world become more fire safe and resilient!

I'm very capable with hand tools, and some power tools as well.

I have significant experience in leadership, team-building, communications (non-violent), conflict resolution, and alternative governance (sociocracy).

I'm knowledgeable about physical health, plants, ecosystems, meditation and spirituality. I also have a good foundation in general sciences and mathematics.

I am certified as a Sawyer (safely using chainsaws), as well as in Wilderness First Aid and CPR.

I also have some experience with construction, woodworking, leatherworking, and general crafting, as well as demolitions. I've also been told that I'm an excellent driver.

I love to cook, and I'm very skilled at cleaning and general house care!

I'm physically fit, flexible, and level-headed. Health is one of the most important things in my life. I study it actively, and it's my passion to help others become more healthy in body, mind, and spirit. I have a variety of techniques to keep me healthy, centered and productive.



Our goal is to take a holistic approach to life, weaving all of our skills together into a balanced whole. What we learn in one area can be applied to other areas, deepening the connections we have with ourselves and the world.

I (Shannon) enjoy reading, drawing, doing yoga and meditation. Any interactive games are fun, and I like hiking, swimming, kayaking, and most outdoor activities. At heart I am an explorer and do like an adventure!

I (Chandler) love to write! I write poetry and fantasy mostly. I love playing Dungeons and Dragons or similar games. I also love music, especially improvised jam sessions where we can let the creative spirit flow through us. I play percussion instruments, and I always love an opportunity to play music with others!
