Hi there!

I'm Sergey from St. Petersburg, Russia. I'm 66 and a retired widower. I'm a well-educated and inquisitive man. I have wide social interests. I love math, philosophy, literature, music, hiking, biking, swimming, and any kind of physical activity. Sometimes I play my guitar.

I have two adult sons. The oldest one is a composer, sound-designer and IT-engineer. He is married and the father of two beautiful princesses (3 and 6), my beloved granddaughters. They relocated to Germany last year for obvious reasons. The youngest also works in IT. He is still staying in St. Petersburg for the time being. He is not married yet.

I have been a real homebody much of my life, but in 2020 I traveled outside my country for the first time since 2003, to Georgia and Armenia.
I'm not just a curious sightseer. I'm eager to learn about and explore new countries, engaging in diverse cultures. In the winter of 2020, I drove to Georgia and Armenia by car. Before the journey I’d read a lot about the history and culture of these ancient countries. I lived with Georgian and Armenian families and had the opportunity to get closer to the habits and traditions of the local people. I drove 7000 km in 1 month, but it was worth it. My month-long trip turned into an incredible adventure.

Over the past two years, many dramatic changes have taken place around the world.
February 2022, split my life into before and after. My old life is no longer possible.
I am trying in this new environment to shed my former ties and connections and become a full-time traveler.

That is why I’m here.

In fact, I've already started travelling in Sept. 2023. Last autumn I visited Germany, Portugal and Latvia. And I had my first experience (a very positive one) as a Workawayer.

I was lucky to meet amazing hosts Caro and Hagen in the little village of Krekow, Groß Miltzow Germany. I’ll never forget the concert in the old German Inn of Bülowssiege (Ein Gutshof der deutschen Romantik). It was a nice “old friends” hang out with lots of laughter, hugs, beer, sausages, and dancing💃. The local band played Beatles songs🎸
I was next taken to the small town of Strasburg, where I became a tenor in a local choir for one night😲. I was given notes for the "Ich steh an deiner Krippen hier" by J.S.Bach and tried very hard to sing correctly. It was fun!

The rest of the time I helped to build "der Schaffstall" (the sheepfold).
I hope that Caro and Hagen were pleased with my work on the sheepfold. This was a wonderful start to my new life. Thank you Caro and Hagen🙏

Ligia and Henrik became my next hosts. I stayed with them from the beginning of October until mid-November.
They provided me with a nice room upstairs and perfect amenities. Ligia is a great cook. Every lunch and dinner were a tasty and healthy feast. I found out what vegan food looks like. Once I also had a chance to demonstrate my cooking skills. I cooked a borscht which they liked a lot.
We had conversations almost every dinner. There were a lot of things to discuss despite my poor English and extremely poor Deutsch. My hosts were patient and kind. I learned a lot about healthy lifestyles and mental health because Ligia is a certified professional psychotherapist practicing medical dance therapy. I highly recommend visiting her website to learn more about dance therapy.
There was an additional advantage there. The location. Just an hour away by public transport from the town where my son's family lives. Because I cannot bear to be apart from my granddaughters for a long time.
I visited my family every weekend and enjoyed walking and playing with my beloved little princesses. And I could let the parents go shopping, to the cinema or to a restaurant. One of the weekends Ligia and Henrik threw a party and invited my family. We had a very pleasant lunch, and the little girls enjoyed jumping on the trampoline, riding a wooden horse, and playing with the toys they gave them.
I am confident my son and daughter-in-law have made a couple of new friends in Germany.

What else? What am I looking for? What am I aspiring to?

I have already started a full-time life as a traveler and joined the workaway community. I've got a Schengen visa and good insurance. At the moment, I have one arrangement in Germany. And now I'm looking for a host for the period from April 25th to the end of May in Germany or Netherlands.
I plan to spend my free time studying. I am focusing on math and my English language skills.

What can I do for the host?
People consider me very resourceful in many different areas.
I am handyman. I’ve built lots of different things in my own house on the shore of Chudskoye Lake (Peipus See) and I love any DIY project. I can also help with gardening and landscaping. This is work I’m used to, and I won't need to ask a lot of questions while working.
I don’t love to cook, but my cooking skills will satisfy you if you’re not very picky.

I love children. I raised two sons and I know what it means. I have always been a very caring and attentive father. We are still close to each other, although the eldest is already 36 and has his own family.
