Hello!
We're Rosie and Leni from the island of Jersey, friends from our school days, who are reuniting in Cyprus. We are looking forward to learning about local life on the island, feeling a sense of community and like we are making a real contribution, however small, to a project that inspires us.
Rosie:
My trip began June 2024 when I left my home in France on my bicycle, with a vague goal of cycling to Japan. It has been an amazing adventure so far! I would like to make a break from the bike over winter and find a stimulating project in which I can contribute. I am used to and enjoy manual work - before my bike trip I was working on small organic farms for 4 years. I am most happy when moving my body outdoors, cycling or rock climbing. Leading a simple life in the nature, cooking good food with local produce, adapting to the bicycle journey's challenges and overcoming them, this is what I love most. I am passionate about sustainability - local food systems, organic farming, eco-construction and alternative ways to travel. I have volunteered in India on a renewable energy project and started my farming journey via several woofing experiences in France. I am currently volunteering at a campsite in the mountains just north of Antalya in Turkey. I am an introvert who is nonetheless curious about others and trying new things.
Leni:
I work as a Researcher for a charity dedicated to redesigning spaces to make them more accessible for walking and cycling. In my free time, I enjoy outdoor activities such as camping, climbing, cycling, and surfing.
Recently, I’ve been spending a lot of time at my local community bike shop, learning to fix my bike and volunteering to repair others. This experience has allowed me to develop practical skills and contribute to my community.
A few years ago, I spent a summer working in a vineyard, which provided valuable insights into agriculture and teamwork. More recently, I’ve been volunteering to plant trees near my home, which has been very rewarding.
I’ve taken six months off work to join Rosie for the winter in Cyprus and will continue traveling with her for the next part of the trip. I’m looking forward to spending more time outdoors, engaging in practical tasks, and learning new skills.
My Grandad was from Cyprus, and I am eager to connect with my heritage. I have started learning the language through a beginner’s course and look forward to immersing myself in the island’s culture and history.Interesses
