Dear host/s

Born and raised in Vancouver, Canada, I met, married a Kiwi and had my son there. Our family moved to Auckland and lived there for several years. That's when I acquired New Zealand citizenship.

We then moved to Brisbane, Australia where I lived and worked as a medical secretary and later as a child care assistant.

I spent most of 2014 and 2015 exploring the east coast of Australia from Sydney to Airlie Beach in the Whitsundays on Galatea II, my sailboat.

I moved to a rural area in the Whitsundays (northern Queensland) to live on a citrus farm where I hosted workawayers and air bnb guests who stayed in my rain forest cabin. Workawayers and air bnb guests often joined me on sailing trips around the Whitsunday Islands.

Having been a workaway host to many workawayers, I am well aware of the expectations and responsibilities of workaway hosts as well as the role of workawayers.

I also worked as a teacher aide at a local college and assistant at a kindergarten. Helping as a volunteer in conservation projects for Eco Barge Clean Seas Inc., Reef Awareness Whitsundays, Fauna Rescue and Reef Warriors, a children's holiday conservation program were additional rewarding pursuits.

I loved being a workawayer and bnb host to folks from around the world.

I enjoy learning about different cultures and sharing my culture with others. I have wonderful memories of my European, English, American and Asian guests.

In turn my guests and helpers enjoyed the tranquility, beauty and wildlife (parrots, kookaburras, cockatoos, kangaroos, tropical butterflies) of my farm. Many of my guests also enjoyed the beauty of the Whitsunday islands from the deck of my sailboat.

Having survived Debbie, a category 4 cyclone that directly slammed into my property, I sold my farm to travel in the UK, Italy and New Zealand in 2018.

I enjoyed a 9 week workaway position teaching English to the children of a wonderful Italian family in northern Italy near Venezia. Now they are good friends.

I loved my workaway position because I adore children. I enjoyed making them laugh. I have a passion for fostering a love of learning and confidence in children of all ages.

I was very grateful for the generosity and help my Italian hosts gave me to spend a lot of time exploring their wonderous country. I demonstrated initative by helping with household jobs ie ironing, mending, laundry, cooking, etc. I like to do more than what is expected.

My most recent workaway trip was during December 2022 and January 2023 when I helped workaway hosts in northern Auckland. My son and daughter-in-law welcomed their first child in October 2022 so I came to help them and meet Violet, my first grandchild.

During that stay, I assisted the hosts with gardening and cleaning of a rental house.

I live on the Gold Coast near the ocean and enjoy water sports of all kinds.

I also enjoy outdoor work such as gardening. I have experience painting and decorating the houses I have owned.

I also adore animals especially dogs, cats and birds. I miss all of my dear former pets that included border collie, Gemma, and wolf hound cross, Lily, many cats and Max, a cute talking cockatiel.

Having enjoyed success as a workaway and airbnb hostess, I have considerable experience and flare for hospitality. I am a great cook and baker. My friendscrave abput my cakes. I love vegetarian meals.

I am honest, friendly, respectful, reliable, easy going, fun loving and eager to help. I take pride in doing a job to the best of my ability. Attention to detail and thinking of improved ways of doing jobs are some of my strengths.

I am a good cook. I love to garden, care for children (qualified childcare worker) and animals and am a good housekeeper and cleaner. My English is excellent as I am an experienced teacher assistant for levels from primary to high school. I am a great animal lover with experience caring for dogs, cats, birds and fish. Sewing, knitting, decorating and painting.
