Hi people! My name is Miriam, I’m 25 years old and currently studying to become an English teacher. I live in the beautiful city of Dresden in Saxony, Germany.

I’m really excited to begin my Workaway journey, especially since I’ve heard such wonderful experiences from friends who have done it before. I would describe myself as a creative, patient, and open-minded person who loves to get involved and try new things.

In my free time, I love acting, singing, and dancing . I’m a huge musical theatre fan and part of a small amateur musical company. I also enjoy cooking, being outdoors, and visiting art and history museums. Because of my studies, I have a big passion for literature and cultural studies. I’m a true bookworm and one of my favorite activities is sitting by a cozy fire with a classic novel and a cup of tea.

I really enjoy the peaceful rhythm of country life. Whether it’s walking through the forest, hiking in the hills, or simply being around animals - being close to nature is something that makes me feel grounded and happy.

As I'm becoming an English teacher the chance to visit Ireland is not just a travelling experience. It’s a chance to grow personally and professionally. I would love to explore Ireland because it offers the perfect mix of language, culture, and community. I want to experience authentic Irish English, improve my communication skills, and learn more about the way people live and work here. I’m also excited to connect with locals, explore the beautiful landscapes, and discover the friendly spirit that Ireland is known for.

I can confidently help others learn German, as one of my study subjects is "German as a second language". At the same time, I’m eager to continue improving my own English skills, especially mastering different regional variations and achieving completely fluent speech. In addition, I am actively working on expanding my Spanish, and I enjoy practicing it whenever I get the chance.

I’m reliable, friendly, and always excited to learn new skills and share my interests with others. I enjoy helping with a variety of tasks such as cooking, cleaning, childcare, gardening, household duties, pet care, or creative activities like acting, singing, or crafting. I learn quickly, take responsibility, and bring a positive attitude into every environment. I have experience working with children and organizing learning activities, as I taught several classes during my English studies. Furthermore, I worked as a teacher assistant in a school, where I organized projects, leisure activities, and tutoring sessions.

I love trying new things, whether it’s gardening, assisting with a project, or supporting a family’s daily routine. Thanks to my creative skills, I can contribute a lot to various projects and activities. I enjoy coming up with new ideas, helping to plan and organize creative tasks. I would describe myself as tidy, flexible, diligent, and adaptable, and I enjoy being part of a team. I also like bring a good sense of humor into everyday life.

Our family hosted both Miriam & her boyfriend Felix over the summer. I can only say how happy we were with both of them. Our time at Tanja's home was something truly special!

We arrived as a couple and instantly felt right at home. The room for the Workawayers is spacious and cozy with plenty of storage space and even a stove, which made it feel like our own little home. The family also included Toto, their dog, Elton and Bowie (cat siblings) and of course Queen Lissy (the oldest cat in the house).
We spent a lot of time walking and playing with Toto, who needs quite a bit of attention, is very playful and active, and has the sweetest soul. Our main job, however, was helping in the garden, which included pulling weeds, fighting brambles, mowing the lawn and getting creative with upcycling. We especially enjoyed the creative side of these projects, as it gave us the opportunity to bring in our own ideas and express our creativity.

We worked around four hours a day and were free to take breaks whenever we needed them. At the same time, we were always committed to getting our tasks done and helping wherever we could. We also spent time with Ronia, Tanja’s daughter, who is incredibly creative, kind, and fun to be around. It definitely never gets boring with her!

We also helped with cooking and preparing meals for the family, and since we love cooking, we were happy to contribute to cozy, warm evenings with the whole family.

Boyle, the nearby town, has a lot to offer! We were lucky enough to stay during the Boyle Arts Festival, which was a wonderful cultural experience. Tanja was also kind enough to let us use their bikes, so every now and then we could cycle the 20 minutes into Boyle. The town has lovely pubs, supermarkets, Boyle Abbey, and even a little adventure park nearby.

Most of all, we want to say a huge thank you to Tanja, Síofi, Ronia, and of course Toto, Elton, Bowie, and Lissy for making us feel like part of the family during our six weeks here!
We never felt like we were simply “workers.” Instead, we were included in all kinds of activities and experiences, from dinners by the nearby lake to weekend trips and visits to the surrounding sights. We truly appreciate all the opportunities and wonderful memories we were given. 😊

We already miss our time in the beautiful Irish countryside. We will never forget these six weeks and can wholeheartedly recommend staying at Tanja’s home to anyone looking for a warm, welcoming, and memorable Workaway experience! 😊
