Hi there! We are Martha and Ollie. We have been living and working in Manchester, UK., but are embarking on an adventure to explore South America from November onwards.

We are very excited for this opportunity to reconnect with nature, meet new people and gain new experiences and skills. We are hardworking, and very willing to help our host with any variety of ongoing projects, as well as with general tasks and chores. We enjoyed a summer of Workaways in France in 2022 where we learned so much, we can't wait to get stuck in again.

Long term, we hope to settle in a community where we can live communally, off grid and in harmony with nature (producing our own food and building sustainably). So, we are searching for experiences where we can connect with like minded people, learn from their wisdom and build our skills and understanding. We have an adoration for the natural world, and would love to be working amongst nature, or towards producing food on a farm. We are also interested in DIY and building projects.

In our downtime we love outdoor activities (hiking, cycling etc), trying new things and making friends.

I (Ollie) am particularly interested in sustainable and self-sufficient living in partnership with nature. I have some experience in construction and building, and enjoy DIY projects. Where we were living in Manchester, Martha and I built furniture out of abandoned pallets, rescuing the wood from waste. We also are part-way through converting our van, which we named Milkthistle. Prior to embarking on this adventure, I was working as a Quality Officer for a national social care charity- safeguarding vulnerable adults and promoting their liberty and quality of life. I also have engaged in some volunteering for community garden projects and small-scale organic farms in the Manchester area and in France.
I also am always trying to improve my abilities with the Spanish language during our travels and look forward to engaging in cultural and language exchange.

(Martha) I am so excited to get away from the city on a Workaway to reconnect with the outdoors and learn some wisdom to bring into my life in the UK. Professionally I have experience in communications, admin, customer service and mental health support. However in my personal life I have an interest in building skills and knowledge which will help others and the world, for example I am passionate about health (physical and mental), sustainability and social justice. I have spent time volunteering with community grassroots organisations (with a focus on migrant support), with local food projects and have recently taken a counselling course. My work and volunteering experience have taught me to get stuck-in to everything with a smile on my face, so rest assured I will be a willing volunteer for any tasks thrown at me :).

Our native language is English. Martha is competent in French, having studied it at university, and we are both learning Spanish ahead of the upcoming trip (we are at beginner level but improving!). We both are keen to further improve our language skills, and of course assist anyone wanting to improve their English!

Quais são suas habilidades?

(Ollie) Over the years, I have worked intermittently as a labourer across various projects including stripping and refurbishing properties (from demolition to decoration) so I have some experience in many aspects of building work. I have worked as part of a close-knit team as well as on large sites assisting with roofing, joinery and bricklaying etc. so I have plenty to contribute to any building projects :). I studied Business and Management at University and would be willing to lend my skills in assisting in any business-oriented projects or tasks as well.

(Martha) I am a recent graduate of a Political Science Masters specialising in Human Rights, following an undergraduate in History and French. I have some experience in French-English translation during my time at University and working experience in communications, administration and events during my year abroad working for La Mairie de Chatelaillon-Plage, including editing the tourism pages, updating the website and agenda, and preparing visual communications for summer events.
