Hi !
I’m a new Workawayer, and I only started to travel on my own recently. I hope to be an explorer during this coming year, discovering new ways of thinking which go beyond our usual patterns. I am especially interested in projects related to agriculture, building and DIY, and social work, such as education. I’d like to help as best I can with humility.

I’m passionate about geography, which I study. I’m taking a bit of distance from its academic form by taking this gap year, to actively participate in projects, as I believe that it is important to shape your beliefs into practical form. I count humanism, respect of the environment, and exchange between individuals, communities and ideas, as some of my most important source of inspiration. I think it is urgent to develop new ways of living in our societies, and such ways can absolutely come from old models, more down-to-earth, whether related to our production systems, or even just our everyday life.

My hobbies are diverse as I take interest in many different things, but I really like basketball, cinema, reading, and everything related to plants and animals (especially tomatoes and wolves). I like to open up and discuss about any topic, and I see communication as one of the most important tools in our lives. As I am someone who somewhat needs autonomy and independence, I totally understand the fact that the host is also an human being with personal needs and daily routines.

Bonjour !
Je suis nouveau sur Workaway et dans le monde du voyage par mes propres moyens, et je compte faire de l'année que j'ai devant moi celle d'une exploration, en découvrant d'autres façons de penser et en élargissant mon champ des possibles. Je suis particulièrement intéressé par les projets en lien avec l'agriculture, la construction/rénovation, et les projets sociaux, notamment d'éducation. Je souhaite aider du mieux que je peux avec humilité.

Une de mes passions est la géographie, que j'étudie. Je m'éloigne le temps d'une année de césure de sa forme académique pour participer activement à des projets concrets, car je crois qu'il est important de mettre ses principes et ses espérances en action, en aidant des projets à prendre vie. Parmi mes idéaux je compte l'humanisme, le respect de l'environnement, et l'échange entre les personnes, idées et domaines. Je pense qu’il est urgent de développer de nouveaux modes de fonctionnement sociétaux, ce qui passe beaucoup par la redécouverte d’anciens modes de vie et techniques, qu’ils soient liés à l’agriculture, l’artisanat ou simplement nos quotidiens.

Les univers personnels qui m'intéressent sont nombreux, j'aime bien toucher un peu à tout, mais j'aime particulièrement le basket (et Lebron James), le cinéma (et Tarantino), la lecture (beaucoup de bd) et tout ce qui concerne les plantes et animaux (surtout les tomates et les loups). J’aime m’ouvrir à des discussions sur n’importe quel sujet, et je place la communication comme un aspect essentiel de la vie. Ayant moi-même besoin d’autonomie et d’une relative indépendance, je comprends totalement le fait que l’hôte est lui aussi un humain qui a ses propres besoins personnels.

EN I think languages are fascinating, and that they are a great source of exchange and discovery. I'd love to share what I can in French and English, and I have fragile basics in Italian. I’m currently learning Arabic, focusing on the Egyptian dialect but curious about all it’s varieties. FR Je trouve que les langues sont un domaine passionnant, et j'aime échanger en Français et en Anglais. J'ai de lointaines bases d'italien qui ne demandent qu'à être approfondies. Actuellement j'apprends surtout l'arabe, en me concentrant sur le dialecte Egyptien.

Quais são suas habilidades?

I think what helps me the most are my curiosity and learning abilities. I love to try to apply what I know but also to fail and bounce back from there. I truly believe that pretty much anything can be learned if you are given the opportunity and you give it enough care and time. I see myself as patient, active, hardworking and not bad at finding solutions. I also enjoy working in team as much as by myself as both options allow for good outcomes.

My degree in geography has taught me a lot in various fields, from theory to applied ideas on many domains related to our World in its natural and human characteristics (hydrology, pedology, biology, statistics, urban science, etc.). I’m fluent in English (for which I crave opportunities to practice), and I have basics in Arabic and Italian. I think of education as something absolutely essential for our societies, and I learned many things by volunteering for weekly 2 hours support sessions for 2 years with a teen who needed it.

Craft and manual work is something I’ve studied less but in which I’m very interested. I try to fix things up, care for plants, as often as I can, to learn by actually trying things.

Je vois ma curiosité et mon goût pour l’apprentissage comme certains de mes meilleurs atouts. Je tiens beaucoup à essayer d’appliquer ce que je sais, mais aussi à accepter mes échecs comme des moyens d’avancer. Je pense qu’on peut tout apprendre tant qu’on donne assez de temps et d’effort aux opportunités qui se présentent à nous. Je crois être patient, actif et travailleur, et je me débrouille plutôt bien quand il s’agit de trouver des solutions. J’aime autant le travail d’équipe qu’en solo car les deux se complètent.

Ma licence en géographie m’a beaucoup appris dans de nombreux domaines, autant théoriques qu’appliqués, liés à notre Monde et à ce qui le compose, autant ses aspects naturels qu’humains (géomorphologie, urbanisme, statistiques, biologie, etc.). Je parle couramment anglais (que j’aimerais vraiment pouvoir plus pratiquer), et j’ai des bases en Arabe et Italien. Je vois l’éducation comme un domaine absolument essentiel dans nos sociétés, et j’ai grandement appris en étant accompagnateur bénévole pour une ado pendant 2 ans.

J’ai moins étudié les travaux manuels (bricolage, plantes), mais ils m’intéressent beaucoup et je cherche activement des opportunités d’apprentissages, pour apprendre en faisant.
