Hey, I‘m Kathi. I’m 22 years old and I grew up in the city of Osnabrück, Germany. I graduated high school in 2021 and did a Gap year in order to travel the world, meet new people and get in touch with new cultures.
I have lived in the USA for a year during an exchange year (2018-19) which is why I’m very open minded, adventurous and spontaneous.
I‘m always looking for someone to travel with as some of the coolest people I’ve met, I have met while traveling ;)
I stayed in Tanzania from September until November 2021 and worked in a social project at a school and daycare.
I have worked in Austria as a ski instructor from December 2021 until March 2022 (most of the times with kids, ages 2-14) After I travelled to Texas to visit my host family and explored Hawaii with my best friend.
From October to December 2023 I traveled to South Africa and worked at a surf hostel and road-tripped the country.
I’m planning on going to New Zealand with my dad February to March 2024 as it’s been a long life dream of ours. After I’m looking for a Au pair/volunteer opportunity in the Netherlands until the summer :)

In general I love to do sports and outdoor activities, but I’m also into cooking, baking and reading.
I would describe myself as a very outgoing and social person.

Quais são suas habilidades?
At home I’m just helping my parents with whatever needs to be done. I have experiences in gardening, fixing easy things, building and farm work since my host family in the US lived on a farm.
I‘m also a very hard working person who is really ambitious to do their best. Furthermore I’m a great team worker and fast learner!
Since I work out a lot I would also be able to do physical work.
I have experiences with tutoring younger children and I have babysitted kids (either my younger host siblings/ or kids at a youth camp)
Since I was 16 years old I always had a part time job. I worked in a hotel in the housekeeping and also the service field for 1 year and after helped out at a supermarket as a cashier and to stock up the products (1,5 years).
I volunteered in Tanzania in a project teaching kids in a elementary school as well as helping out in a daycare with babies.
Right now I work as a ski instructor in Austria with international guests and mostly children.

I volunteered in Arusha for about a month. There were two different projects: one was a nursery/primary school (kids between 4 and 6); the other was a daycare (younger children between 1 and 4).
The first two weeks me and another volunteer from Germany volunteered at the nursery school. There are about 30 children all in one classroom which means… read more it gets chaotic and loud easily. The other challenge is that the kids are on very different levels especially in Math. At first this might be overwhelming but you definitely get used to it and you have to be creative. While the kids are very energetic they also love to see you everyday which is a wonderful feeling. During our time there we prepared the lessons and taught the kids in Math, English, Art and Music (drawing and singing with them). The teacher is very thankful for your help at the school. We really enjoyed the time there.
The second two weeks we were volunteering at a daycare (the parents bring there kids in the morning and pick them up in the evening). You play with the babies, feed them and help with other simple tasks. I loved this place because the kids are the sweetest and I felt so welcomed the entire time. The welcoming attitude is also due to the “mamas” (the 4 women taking care and cooking for the kids). They were always so happy to see us and made sure we felt comfortable. Saying goodbye was hard! This place has a special place in my heart!!
While the projects are different both are unique in their own ways and I’m grateful for having the opportunity to volunteer there.

While volunteering we stayed with Alhaji and his family (his brother and mother). Alhaji is a really good host and helps whenever you have questions or need something. He looks after his volunteers and their safety very well! The family is super sweet but I would say it takes some days to get used to everything (which is normal). I’m gonna miss the dinners together at his place. I’m grateful for the cultural exchange and having had the experience of living in a local home (including the good food).
Arusha is such a cool place. We loved exploring the city and the surrounding area. There are a lot of things to do and the nature offered a lot aswell. From Alhaji’s place you can walk to the center of the city (it’s like a 30 min walk) or take public transportation. But you can get most things from the people selling there stuff at the little stands on the main road.

Thank you Alhaji for this unique experience and for letting us stay at your place!! I’ll always remember the time in Arusha!
