Hello! My name is Justin, and I’ve been living in Valencia since October. I’m passionate about travel and immersing myself in different cultures, which led me to move here to teach English at a primary school in a small pueblo outside of Valencia. I’m also devoted to learning the beautiful Spanish language along the way! Since I'm working as an Auxiliar del Conversación in a school, I have a free summer season and looking to fill that time with some good work and adventure.

At university, I majored in Musical Theater, driven by my longtime dream of singing, dancing, and acting. I spent four years studying and performing professionally, eventually living in New York for a year to further pursue my career. However, during the pandemic, I realized I wanted a different path. I moved back to my hometown of San Diego, California, to be closer to family and discovered a deep love for interior design and woodwork. During that time, I worked at an interior design firm, sold handmade wooden furniture, completed home passion projects, and ultimately started my own business in home renovations.

Now, four years later, I decided to spend a while abroad to focus on my Spanish, travel, and explore new cultures. I do, however, miss the creative outlet of building furniture, working on home projects, designing, and gardening.One of my most memorable projects was building a multi-level garden with raised beds and irrigation at my parents’ house, which sparked a deep love for the process. I’m excited to connect with people while bringing my diverse passions into new experiences!

Quais são suas habilidades?
Throughout my life, I have explored many different passions which comes with many different skillsets and knowledge bases. I have extensive experience and interest in woodwork, basic home renovation processes like painting walls, installing tiles, etc, and interior design. Additionally, I spent considerable time building a large garden where I learned about preparing land and growing crops, in ways that are both beautiful and of course functional. I also just love plants and flowers in general. I also have a big passion for digital sketches and models of spaces for designs, which ranges from basic floor plans and space planning to 3D renderings.
I enjoy working both on teams and alone, being both self sufficient and collaborative depending on the project. I'm open!

If there is a body of water, it will be hard for me to not get in no matter the season or temperature. The ocean, a lake, a pool, anything! I also love board/card games, cooking, and watching a good movie!

I don't think I can fully put into words how incredible and impactful it was to spend a month at the finca with Anne and Paolo (and of course Jacque, Fay, Amparito, and the queen Molly) . Anne and Paolo are two of the most welcoming, intelligent, hardworking, generous and lovely people I've ever met, and have made my first experience with Workaway… read more a time that will remain close to my heart forever.

The finca and surrounding land have such calming energy, due to both the natural surroundings (the views blew me away every single day) and the humans that care for it. Their respect for their community and land and desire to preserve it and encourage its growth is so inspiring. It quickly felt like such a familial environment and I consistently felt respected, valued, and heard.

Anne has such an open and collaborative spirit in the projects and spaces which made it so fun and so easy to work hard. She constantly made us feel comfortable and supported, and her personal passion and involvement in the process made it feel like a team effort. She is one of the sweetest humans who I'm lucky to now call a close friend. She is incredibly intelligent, hardworking, calm and curious to learn more about others, and has such an open mind and heart. And I can say the exact same about Paolo. He is such a hilarious and sweet guy who I was happy to see every morning with a joyful greeting. It was so special to experience his passion for cooking and sharing ideas, and Argentinian BBQ's have now become my roman empire. He's always excited to learn more about new places and cultures and share his own experiences and knowledge as well. His caring, thoughtful, and open spirit always made me feel comfortable to be myself and it was a pleasure to get to know him so well.

They not only welcomed us into their home, they truly welcomed us into every facet of their lives. Always willing to show us new spots on the island, making sure we had everything we needed, always asking what else we were interested in and hoping to experience, introducing us to many of their lovely friends, and opening our eyes and hearts to the magic of the amazing island. It was so difficult leaving, but I knew from early on that we will absolutely meet again. I am forever invested in the growth of their wonderful land and visions for it, but more importantly, in the family I made there. And I have now unexpectedly been converted into a cat person.

I will see you guys soon with some fluent Spanish and slay salsa skills. Love you my girly pops!
