Growing up in the Wiltshire countryside, UK, I have developed a love for everything outdoors. I enjoy hiking, kayaking and cycling alongside volunteering at many wildlife conservation projects in my local area.
I also have a passion for people and love working in positions where I am able to interact and learn about those around me. Having used WorkAway throughout my travels, I am very aware of the hard work and attention that needs to be put in at the places I stay, but it is always worth it, as I have had so many incredible experiences and met so many wonderful people.
I have worked multiple jobs in my life so far, ranging from waitering at private parties, nightshifts in supermarkets, working as a delivery driver and working an average 60 hour weeks as a labourer for marquee companies. This means I can tackle most tasks that come my way, whether they be physical or social, and use my teamwork and communication skills to help solve any problems I cannot tackle by myself.
In addition, I have worked as a farmhand for two summer seasons now and have experience using New Holland T6 and T7 tractors, as well as good knowledge using Ford 8340. I have used multiple attachments ranging from flails and tedders to hauling 15 tonne grain trailers. Although my experience is not huge, I have developed skills to allow me to tackle problems on the farm using knowledge that I have picked up from the last two years and have been exposed to solving problems on a daily basis. The farm also has livestock, 350 north country mules and 50 Sussex cows. I have helped organise the sheep for sheering and worming and have joined my boss when inspected the herds for any lame individuals.
Currently, I am a student at the Edinburgh University reading plant science, so I love everything botanical! I am particularly interested in agricultural techniques and crops, so would be very interested to learn more from people on these topics. Furthermore, I am keen to learn and experience new and unique sustainability and environmentalist projects.
As a WorkAwayer I can bring a good attitude, both physical and social skills, teamwork and problem solving skills. I also believe that both while travelling and in life, we must endeavour to learn new ideas, skills and knowledge from the those around us and in return offer the same back to the people we meet, so I am excited to see where WorkAway takes me and what I can exchange along the way.
