Hey there! 🩵🦋 I’m Jacob, and after graduating in Political Science and Philosophy and being heavily involved in community and environmental activism, I’ve been working and living in Canada and South America for the last three years, sailing, tree planting, living on farms and intentional communities, working in construction, hostels and bars, as well as in child care as an Au Pair, counsellor and outdoor educator. I mostly likely to work with wood: cutting, milling, thinning, building and I also love to work with animals (in all the stinky and not very cute capacities too!) I also enjoy farm work, landscaping, gardening and general labour.

I have a deep desire to explore both my internal and external world and have been enjoying soaking up every morsel of experience I can out of this life so far! I love to learn about farming, permaculture and construction, as well as meeting and connecting deeply and authentically with new people, minds, languages, beliefs and countries. I find serving a community, and spending as much time deep in nature as possible deeply satisfying and peaceful. I am a warm, peaceful, positive and very enthusiastic person with a growth mindset. I am very dedicated and hardworking and I love to try new things, take on new challenges and am always ready to take accountability for mistakes so that I may grow from them. I'm happy to be imperfect! I love to learn what others have to share with me and happy to share myself and my knowledge with others too. I am very much a people person, as getting to know new people and support people is one of my favourite things about life - so much so that next year I begin my training as an Integrative Therapist! I am confident and outgoing, however, I enjoy time to myself as well. I am adaptable, dependable, and sensitive towards the needs and feelings of others. I would say I am very principled, and very intentionally live life in accordance with my values, which I also allow to change and grow in nuance as I move through life. More than anything though, I love people, authentic encounters and a good laugh!

I am utterly in love with the natural world and love to learn the language and distinct voice of nature in each country and region. I love mountains, camping, hiking and swimming in oceans and lakes. I am very content to just sit by some beauty for a long while and drink in the stillness. It is a dream of mine to build my own house one day, and open my doors to the world and build a community of friends, family and travellers, so Workaway is a fantastic learning experience for me.

Some of my interests include jiu jitsu, sailing, skateboarding, construction, wood carving, surfing, snowboarding, trees and plants, animals, climbing, acting and directing, jamming and playing music, dance, abstract expressionist painting, poetry, reading, Vipassana meditation and Hatha yoga.

Quais são suas habilidades?

I have a great deal of out door work and farm experience from living and working on many different farms and communities here in Canada. Some of my outdoor work experience includes:
- Construction/carpentry
- Tree felling, milling, splitting
- Natural material making
- Cobbing
- Food Processing
- Animal care
- Landscaping
- Gardening/farming
- Cooking for groups
- SOME minor electrical work
- All kinds of general labour

I am also a a guitarist, singer and abstract artist.

I am also familiar with consensus decision making and other systems used in sociocratic communities, such as non violent direct communication.

I also have a good experience working with guests as a front desk representative at a hostel in Jasper and in El Transito and Ometepe, Nicaragua.

I was a nanny and have done two summers at Camp Walden, and love to work with children.

I can also work extremely hard, as proved by my two seasons of tree planting.

I’m a musician and an abstract artist, and love to paint and jam with others. I also do wood carving. I also meditate (Vipassana and Meeta Bhavna) and practise Hatha yoga daily and love to offer guided sessions wherever I am. I used to teach at the UoB meditation society. I also love climbing, skateboarding, snowboarding, jiu jitsu and want to learn to surf.
