My partner (of 7 years) and I quit our jobs in January 2024 and embarked on our biggest adventure yet, a career break/sabbatical! We have spent the first few months of this journey detoxing from our old lives and just enjoying work- free living while traveling the world. Now we are ready to embark on something a little more meaningful. One of our goals for taking a year off was to allow us the headspace and time to reverse engineer the life we want. This is where volunteering comes in.

We hope that by volunteering we can experience a cultural exchange, connect to each place and its people on a deeper level, and sample different ways of living. We hope to learn more about sustainability and different practices from around the world that we might be able to follow when we return home. The goal is to find a way of living that will resonate better with us than the conventional American lifestyle that we were living before. We aren't going to find that by hanging around the same circle we were before. So here we are! Knocking on stranger's doors for a chance to learn.

Quais são suas habilidades?

I (Haylie) absolutely love animals and have endless patience when it comes to handling them. I love dogs so much that In 2020 I switched careers from being a physical therapist assistant for 7 years to dog grooming, and I have been happily grooming pups ever since. In addition to taking care of dogs, I also grew up on a horse farm and don't shy away from getting my hands dirty.

My partner and I own 2 properties and have done most of the renovations ourselves including; tile installation, window replacement, flooring installation, painting, replacing the electrical panel (Jose is an electrical engineer), and minor drywall repairs amongst other things.

Jose went to school for electrical engineering and has worked in construction since he graduated 8 years ago (mainly project management). He is mechanically inclined and great at coming up with solutions and executing them.

We are both very positive, intuitive people that value nonviolent communication and coming up with solutions. We are easy going, hard working and quick learners that are highly adaptable.
