Hey! My name is Elisa and I'm very excited to join workaway! :)

I'm a 28-year old social worker based in Cologne, Germany and originally from San Francisco, California. I’m headed to Colombia starting in January and am looking to find a work exchange for the time there.

Above all, I love to dance and spend time with other internationals while exploring new cultures. I have enjoyed travelling through many countries and am excited to use work and travel as a way to deepen my experience and connections in the countries that I visit. I have experience doing work and travel at a hostel in Germany and have otherwise experience working with children, people with disabilities, homeless and working with many kinds of animals, which you can read more about down below!

I can quickly adapt to new situations and am happy to help in many areas where you may need assistance. I try to be very respectful and mindful of the needs of people around me, I’m a quick learner and can easily adapt to new situations.

Quais são suas habilidades?

In my home county, I grew up with a family run veterinary practice at my home, so I learned to assist in veterinary care starting at a very young age. Since then I have
volunteered at a wild animal sanctuary, worked with rescue horses and worked at a dog hotel and have done pet-sitting. I have a strong passion and connection with animals and love assisting in animal care and rehabilitation. I helped rehabilitate rescued horses using the natural horsemanship and Tellington T-touch approaches and have worked as an assistant in equine-assisted therapy workshops.

Furthermore, as a social worker, I have experience working with many kinds of disadvantaged people. Most recently I have been assisting people with physical or psychological disabilities, helping families at home that are in distress, assisting refugees with and working with children both at their homes and in school.

I have experience growing my own vegetables and mushrooms and love to get my hands dirty and work in the soil. I have a deep understanding for the many elements that should be considered while gardening. I also cook quite delicious vegetarian or vegan meals (my favorite is thai food!) and get excited by different kinds of fermentation.

I can do most basic handy-work and would love to improve on my basic carpentry skills while helping in building projects. I have experience using basic power tools and hand tools, painting, etc. I am also happy to help doing household chores, as they of course need to be done as well!

Over the past years I have volunteered at a few local community centers, helping setting up and organizing events and running the bar. Furthermore, I have volunteered at a buddhist meditation center, helping out for day-long retreats and workshops.

My other interests include meditation & mindfulness, crafting, music, dance (I dance salsa, bachata, kizomba and lindy hop), languages, plants, animals, mushrooms, nutrition, hiking, volleyball, yoga & acroyoga!

As you can see, I have many interests and I’m happy to lend a helping hand wherever help is needed. I am open minded for new challenges and looking forward to exploring new places, meeting new people and maybe learning something new about myself! It would be my pleasure to meet you and also participate in your project.
