Hey Workaway community!
My name is Dominik, I’m 28 years old, and I believe that traveling is the best way to learn about other cultures . I work as a biology and chemistry teacher in Italian, and this job reminds me that teachers are lifelong students. That’s probably why I’m very curious about the world around me and always try to explore new things.
After many years of traveling, I decided to try Workaway. I see it as a beautiful opportunity to dive deeper into different cultures — not just others, but also my own. I’ve spent 3 months in the USA (New Jersey) and had three long-term stays in Italy (Perugia in Umbria, and Reggio Calabria in Calabria). These experiences remain as my favorite memories, mostly because of the incredible people I met — people who were kind, open-minded, and truly inspiring.
Besides traveling, I’m passionate about creative projects — they help me stay balanced in life. I’m a big fan of analog photography and I always carry a camera with me to capture places just as they are. I also document my home and memories through short texts (in local dialect, because I feel that its important to conserve it), photos, and videos — they remind me of my childhood and my amazing grandma.
And of course — food! I love cooking and exploring new cuisines. In my opinion, food brings people together. Preparing meals with others is one of the most natural and beautiful ways to connect.
I love sharing stories about my culture and art. I used to dance in a local folklore group, and I still feel a strong connection to Slovak traditions. So, if you’re curious about that, I’d be happy to share! During one of my stays in Italy, I even wrote a small thesis comparing traditional costumes and customs in Sicily with those from Slovakia. Since I’ve spent a lot of time in Italy, I’ve got to know the country quite well. I’ve traveled to almost every corner of it and I have to say: È una meraviglia !
Why volunteering? Because I love the idea of giving something back. I was involved in many cultural projects in Slovakia — from theater and cinema festivals to community events. Right now, I’m volunteering with young people who help run a cultural center in Bratislava, where I live. Through volunteering, I’ve met amazing people and many of who became my friends.
I can help with teaching English and Italian, but not only that — I'm also happy to share my knowledge of biology, chemistry and Slovak traditions, perhaps by organizing workshops. I consider myself a good cook, so if you need help in the kitchen, I’d be more than happy to assist. I've also worked as a waiter and housekeeper, so anything connected to hospitality is great for me. I’m happy to help with manual work too — I'm a quick learner and always willing to try new things.Interesses

Quais são suas habilidades?
As I mentioned, I can teach English and Italian, since I work as a biology and chemistry teacher in the Italian language. I can also organize workshops on various biology and chemistry topics.
In addition, I have experience in hospitality — I used to work as a waiter in a small family-run business in Slovakia and as a housekeeper in the USA. I would love to try other positions as well, such as helping at the reception, since I genuinely enjoy working with people.
In fact, I’ve worked with people my entire life.I also worked as a postman, which helped me realize how much I enjoy being around people and helping them as much as I can.
After my stay in New Jersey, I had the opportunity to work as a local representative for an agency that provides Work and Travel programs for students. My responsibilities included organizing interviews, promoting the agency, preparing presentations, and talking to students about my own experience.
Later, I started teaching at a bilingual school in Bratislava. Besides teaching, I’m also responsible for creating promotional materials, preparing documentation for school projects (financing, communication, public relations),organizing cultural exchanges with schools in Italy and many more. It is very dynamic job that has helped me develop a wide range of skills and personal qualities.
In my free time, I volunteer at various (mostly cultural) events, such as cinema and theater festivals. I usually help with manual tasks (helping to production), ticketing, promotion, checking tickets, and more.Idade

For my first Workaway experience, I chose Brazil. I've always been interested in this country — its culture, food, traditions, language (which I’m excited to learn), and of course, its people.
