Hi I’m Curtis, I’m 32 years old and from the UK. I’ve been travelling around the world on and off for the last 10 years meeting new people and experiencing different cultures and ways of life along the way.
Before I started travelling I trained as a chef to ensure that I had a skill that would be useful and helpful everywhere I went. I am no stranger to Workaway and volunteering. I’ve helped with farm work, gardening, building projects, pet sitting and general housekeeping. I love working outdoors! Some of my fondest memories are from the two years I spent working on various fruit farms across Australia.
A few years ago I invested in a guesthouse in Ecuador where I changed from a Workawayer to a host. I worked with around 30 volunteers over two years. In that time we renovated every room and replenished the vegetable plots out back. Sadly the situation in Ecuador at the moment is quite bad and tourism is very low so until there is an improvement I am exploring other things.
I am currently studying online to become an English language teacher and add an extra skill to help travel to more places a connect with more people.

I am learning Spanish and can get by with what I already know. I would like to become fluent. In the future I would like to learn more languages. I am currently studying online to teach English as a foreign language and aim to become a teacher in the next year.

Quais são suas habilidades?

I am a professionally trained chef with over a decade of experience. I’ve worked in five different countries in a variety of cuisines.
I worked on various fruit farms, including apples, blueberries, cherries, lemons, oranges, mandarins, grapes, plums and avocados over two years. In this time I achieved “Pickers of the Season” three times.
I ran a 7 room guest house in Ecuador for two and a half years. In this time we became top of customer ratings on Booking.com, Trip Advisor and Airbnb for the region

I love music and playing with other people. I am by no means a master at any instrument but I can play a variety of them.
I am passionate about cycling and ride my bike everyday either to commute to work or just for pleasure.
I am a big fan of chess. I am far from a grand master but I love introducing people to the game. This past summer I started a chess club with my colleagues and friends. It was a big hit and a lot of fun.
