It was a wonderful experience! Lots of different and interesting activities: working in the kitchen, at the cheese factory, in the garden; milking cows (they're so cute :-)) and more. The people in the commune are VERY friendly, helpful, and caring. The food is varied and delicious. A friendly community of volunteers from all over the world – 6 weeks flew by. We miss you all so much! Thank you and prosperity to you!

en Workaway review I spent 10 days on Lauren and Devin’s hobby farm. It felt like time slowed done here. A family who have time for each other and their surroundings. I learnt more than you would think in 10 days and I have come away with admiration and feeling inspired to love myself, love the land and be patient! They have this subtle patience between them, a true trust of intuition. Between their busy lives they found time for me and I feel really grateful for what they shared. It didn’t feel like work. It felt like a chance to share knowledge, to listen, to learn. It made me feel like “working” Thanks Devin and Lauren and Tao and River. What a synchronicity! I'm

I spent a week in March at this volunteer experience and there was another couple of volunteers with me at the same time. Siri was an amazing host to us who made my stay in Kamphaeng Phet very enjoyable and rich in cultural exchange. She brought us to see the temples, explained a lot about Buddhism and gave us suggestions on what to do and see during our days off (historical park, etc.). It's always pretty hot but since the classes are usually in the afternoon, I spent my mornings discovering some beautiful and quiet cafes in the city to escape the heat and work on my personal projects. The workload was not too much, only a couple of hours per day and 2 days off as per description. The kids I worked with varied in age (from 4 to 12-13 years old) and they are all amazing and a pleasure to have around. Finally, the food Siri bought for us was very good and we could cook whatever we felt like with the other volunteers. She also brought us to eat out in some very local restaurants, which contributed very positively to the experience. It was an experience that I will always hold dear to my heart! Thank you 💛

I feel lucky to have hosted Lynn and to have gotten to know her. She is a lovely young girl, very intelligent, thoughtful, empathetic, and courageous. I used to call her my little Buddha. Her dog, Mint, is adorable and extremely well behaved. The only problem, I would say, is that she didn’t stay very long:) So I really hope to see her again someday. A bientôt Lynn !

Nico was an absolute pleasure to host. He fit right in with the family immediately and we had such fun. He joined in everything available to him and is friendly and kind. He’s so interested in others and curious and a great conversationalist ready with quick humour and a laugh. We had lots of manual tasks - sanding, weeding, digging, carrying and he worked completely independently and with efficiency. He pitched in with cooking and cleaning too. I would not hesitate to have him back anytime. We wish him the best on his travels!

We loved having Lia at home! She's very kind, ansdso interesting! She has many projects ideas (I love the fact that she started an environmental project from scratch in my town), and is always eager to go out and explore! In the house, she went far and beyond our expectations. She visited us when we were preparing to move out for a few months, so we had to do a deep cleaning, and she was super helpful. I don't think we would have managed to leave behind us such a clean house without her strong fight against spider nets!

This was my first workaway and wow i couldn't have picked a better one! I had so much fun at the hostel, Chris is a great guy and the job is very nice and enjoyable. I loved getting to know different people everyday and exploring Santo Domingo and the island. I'll miss Island Life sooo much, but I'm sure our paths will cross again ;) For now, a big hug to Chris, Diana, Alba, Fiquiere, my colleagues/other workawayers - and most of all, Hami the doggo! xoxo

I cannot say enough amazing things about Oscar as a volunteer. He went above and beyond and exceeded our expectations. He volunteered at our house and within the new alternative school we opened and the kids are still talking about him months later. He was fun, energetic, helpful and creative. I hope he continues to travel and do great things in all of the communities he plugs into.

Wow, it’s hard to know where to start after such an incredible experience with Frank in the Purma Pergola! I spent a month in the project, and from the first to the last day Frank was as caring and attentive as he could be, ensuring at every moment that I was comfortable and only ever asked me to do things I wanted to, this and other things has lead to a brilliant friendship which I know will last for life! My time in the project allowed me to experience what life in the jungle can be like, surrounded by nature, living in reciprocal harmony with all of the life that exists around and supports us. Personal highlights for me were seemingly mundane tasks like chopping fire wood and cooking on open fire. I learnt a lot also, primarily in construction as reinforcement was what was required during my time, but also about several agriculture and permaculture methods. My favourite part about jungle life has to be that tasks are decided by necessity, if you’re looking for a place to reset from the busy city life many of us become accustomed to, there is no place which will allow for more peace and time to yourself to slow down and reconnect with yourself and nature. Franks entire family were an absolute pleasure to get to know also, and I will genuinely miss all of them! The jungle life can be challenging for sure, but Frank is always there to guide and help you if needed, and if, like me, you want to challenge yourself, physically and mentally, this project is definitely for you. I will remember my time here forever and I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity Frank and his family provided for me :))

My week with Aine was incredibly intense, worth more than many entire seasons of my past life. She took me to the Keash Caves; to Sligo, where I learned to love Jack B. Yeats; and to Rosses Point, where we had lunch in a lovely cottage by the bay. We visited a viewpoint on Lough Gill to see the Isle of Innisfree with a priest who was an expert on Yeats, then went to Yeats’s grave in Drumcliff, to Lissadell, and to the wild Fossil Beach, where the ocean waves were breaking and whose spray was like grains of rice thrown for the wedding between the setting sun and the horizon, falling into the shadow of the headland where the fearless and solitary former fortress of the writer Dermot Healy stands. I even attended a reading of Joyce’s Ulysses, followed by drinks at the pub with the group members, feeling truly spoilt. In her and her husband, I found the perfect cicerones for exploring Yeats Country and the historically and literarily rich County Sligo. Aine is incredibly generous in satisfying your passions—be it archaeology, art, or, in my case, literature. I highly recommend staying with her if you have a genuine interest in any aspect of Ireland; she won't disappoint you. The house has an awesome library, and I'm grateful to her and her husband for introducing me to so many Irish authors (from an extensive Joyce bibliography and the complete works of Healy to many books on the heritage of Sligo and Ireland, and endless collections by the finest Irish poets). Often, while working in the mornings, she would try to recall the Yeats poems she had memorized long ago, making the time fly by. Moreover, she is a great vegetarian cook, careful to the quality of her ingredients—so much so that she made me forget I was a carnivore. Overall, it was an experience that will always stay with me «like the light in the corner of the eye / astronauts have when they come home / from all those days and nights watching the earth / swing like a lamp below them» (D. Healy, 'Travelling')

I stayed at Carlos’s hostel for a little over three weeks and overall had a lovely experience. I really enjoyed spending time with the other volunteers, the work was generally straightforward and laid-back, and if your goal is to practice Spanish you will definitely have many opportunities to do so with both volunteers and guests who don’t speak English. You receive your schedule for the upcoming week every Sunday evening. Shifts are either in the morning (9am–2pm, usually with one or two other volunteers), afternoon (2pm–7pm, alone), or evening/night (7pm–12am, alone). You work five days a week with two days off. Carlos is flexible and does his best to take volunteers’ preferences into account, and he is usually very accommodating if you ask to have two days off in a row. The work mainly consists of cleaning the common areas of the hostel, changing sheets, preparing and cleaning rooms after check-out, and helping at reception with guests, check-ins, and check-outs. Carlos is always reachable by phone and responds quickly if there are any questions or issues. During the first weeks of my stay I only saw him a few times in person, so most of the day-to-day instructions were explained by other volunteers, some of whom had only arrived shortly before me. Because of this, the work can sometimes feel a bit informal or loosely organized . Occasionally, when several volunteers work together in the morning, tasks are not always clearly divided, so some people may naturally take on more than others. In general, though, the volunteers I worked with were very hardworking and helpful. A short initial orientation for new volunteers and a proper welcome would make the transition even smoother. Toward the end of my stay Carlos started to be more present at the hostel, and he even began organizing evening workout sessions with the volunteers, which many of us happily joined and which helped create a nice group atmosphere. The volunteer living area has a fairly rustic, hostel-style atmosphere. If you enjoy a relaxed, communal living environment you will probably like it, although people who prefer a very structured or polished setup might need a little time to adjust. There is a separate volunteer area in the lower part of the hostel with an outdoor space where you can hang clothes, a small kitchen area with a sink, fridge and freezer, and a table with seating. Cooking is done on the terrace upstairs, which is shared with guests. There are two volunteer rooms: one with three beds used mainly by longer-term volunteers, and another with several beds and bunk beds for other volunteers. Personal belongings are stored in containers roughly the size of a medium suitcase. Volunteers share one bathroom and, when I was there, there were usually around eight or nine volunteers in total. There are also cleaning shifts for the volunteer area, which helps keep the space tidy. The beds lockers, and doors to the rooms are somewhat older, which adds to the rustic feel of the place. During my stay there was also occasionally some trouble with rats in the volunteer area and the terrace kitchen, which meant that food had to be stored carefully. Carlos did contact pest control while I was there, and I think this may have been a temporary issue specific to that period. The hostel itself is beautiful and has several great common areas where you can relax during your free time. The terrace upstairs has a stunning view of the sea, with amazing sunsets and even fireworks around 8pm most evenings. The location is excellent: about a two-minute walk from the ocean and around fifteen minutes from Zona Romántica, where you can catch buses to some of the best nearby beaches. Puerto Vallarta itself is a nice city. Like many coastal destinations in Mexico it is quite touristy, especially in the central areas, and many businesses cater mainly to visitors. Sometimes it can feel more like a resort area than a traditional Mexican town. On the other hand, this also means it feels very safe and comfortable to walk around, even at night. If you walk about twenty minutes away from the busiest areas you can find more local neighborhoods with beautiful streets, jungle scenery, and views of the sea. If you visit around February, you can also see humpback whales on tours, which is an incredible experience. Overall, there is always room for improvement in any volunteer program, but I am very happy with the time I spent at Hostal Vallarta. Carlos expects volunteers to take their shifts seriously, but outside of that you have plenty of freedom and time to enjoy the city, relax at the beach, and explore nearby places. For example, I asked if I could have two days in a row off to visit Guadalajara, and Carlos kindly arranged my shifts so that I had enough time to make the trip. It was a good experience and I am grateful for the time I spent there. Thank you Carlos!

I had a really great stay at Anamé’s property. Got to do alot of outdoor working, mostly moving rocks and fixing up some parts in the driveway and also helped keep the house tidy and other indoor work like moving furniture. Was a great mix of volunteer work. Met some other volunteers here and had a really nice time. The house is situated in a beautiful jungle like atmosphere and the sunrise and sunsets are amazing. Thank you for the time Anamé and letting me share your home. You will also love hanging with missie the dog. I would recommend coming to do a workaway here

Simon and everyone living in the community is really kind. The people who live there are actually interested in Bio farming and living with the earth - so much so, that one or two workaway erst like me would be surprised. On the pictures you don't see the living facilities, sadly I must say. When I was there they said they would change that ans show future workaway era videos. The place is really dirty and some rooms dont have windows, it is just like that - living with and in nature, with very good internet! The working time and the time of work re good, people are friendly. It really is more structured like a hippie community though - be aware of that. If hygiene is important for you, I wouldnt recommend you to go. There is also a 3 children living there, who are obviously very interested in your life, because there you are a part of their life. You cannot just shrug that off. You have to be willing to integrate yourself in the experience. For me I left after 1 day because I had a feeling I didn't belong there. The grown ups were really kind about it, the children took it more personal. This is always a danger working and living with children, so please only go to that place if you are willing to not take the acts and thoughts of the children personal yourself. They are just kids.

Te voy a extrañar!

Peter and John were honestly the best hosts we could have asked for, and we truly could not have had a better first Workaway experience. From day one they made us feel welcome, comfortable and completely at home. They are warm, funny, generous and really easy to be around. We shared meals, worked together, laughed a lot and created memories we will genuinely keep with us. The place is beautiful, surrounded by nature, peaceful and special. The work was physical and hands on, but always fair, clear and respectful. They gave us space, trusted us and let us work at a good rhythm, which made the whole experience feel balanced and enjoyable. What made it even more special is that they also took us around to explore local places and showed us some amazing spots in the forest. You can really feel that they care about giving you not only a place to stay and work, but a real experience of the atmosphere, the area and the lifestyle around them. More than hosts, they became real friends, and that is something we are very grateful for. This is exactly how a Workaway should feel. Thank you so much for everything. We will always remember this time with a big smile.

Frannie was absolutely amazing! She adapted to the rhythm at the shelter and participated in whatever was going on here, from picking up poo, cleaning the duck pond, to doing more crafty projects, or even spay and neuter campaigns. She was super gentle and sweet with the animals and always willing to go an extra mile. We really enjoyed having her here!

Martine is perhaps one of the most impressive women I've met so far in my life. Staying with her and her dogs in such a remote place on Foxlake in the Yukon was just incredible. I spent four weeks with her in October 2025 and had a wonderful time. Martine is a really friendly, energetic, enthusiastic and strong woman. I feel like she's not afraid of anything which made me feel really safe in this rural area. She introduced me to all of the tasks around her kenell, and I learned how to prepare the dogs for the run and how to prepare a living in the northern winter. The nature in Yukoun is changing in that time period, from fall to winter, and seeing this was just incredible, becasue the light and colors of fall were just beautiful. I was racking the last leaves from the trees around and saw also the first snow falling down. From +12 degrees at the beginning of my stay it went down to -14 degrees at my last day. I highly recommend to stay with Martine if you love dogs, are looking for a really one of kind lifetime experience and for a good and fun time somewhere in nowhere in Yukon, Canada.

Nicole has been a joy to host. Very capable with the reno tasks I required her to undertake- sanding and painting, organising, moving furnishings and junk, plus house duties. Nothing was too big or small. She fitted extremely well into our little family. We loved her time here and would welcome her back in a heart beat. She's since moved on to an impromptu stay at my sister's home in the next town!
