Last year I got the chance to spend 1 month with Mercedes & Alfonso and their lovely children, and I can only recommend them to everyone, who wants to get an authentic spanish family experience! :)

… read more the first moment on, I felt very welcome. Everybody got a great sense of humor and the communication was easy, as everyone got a good level of english :)
My main tasks were to bring & pick up the kids from school or their activities and to communicate with them in English.
In the other time we played, cooked, talked & watched tv together. If you like children & being in a family, this will not feel like "work" :)
The family included me in a lot of their activities and I LOVED it :) Thank you for inviting me to all the family picknicks & small festivals in the neighbor villages!
Torrelaguna is a beautiful small town, surrounded by lots of nature, but if you miss the city, you can reach Madrid easily by bus.

All in all this was one of the best workaway experiences I've ever had & I'm very grateful for every moment I got to share with this wonderful people :) This are memories I will never forget :)

Negin es una persona tranquila, divertida y muy respetuosa!!
Tiene una voz adorable, canta estupendamente. Se adaptó a todas las normas de la casa a la primera, los niños la tienen mucho cariño, y por supuesto nosotros también.

This was my first WorkAway experience and I can’t say enough about how warm and memorable it was. I found a second family whom I love and will cherish forever! … read more caring and kind. From the very first day, they made me feel welcome, explained everything very clearly and helped me navigate through the town. Mercedes speaks English very well and communication was pretty easy for us. She is a very open-minded and curious person and we had deep, close conversations together. Alfonso is very punctual and caring. We mainly spoke Spanish to each other and switched to English from time to time.
The kids have a good command of English. According to their age, they have different levels. They are kind, funny and always ready to do something fun or exciting. My main task was to speak English with them and take them to school and classes in the afternoon. Torrelaguna is a small town, surrounded by green, vast plains, an hour from Madrid with quite frequent buses.
As for the language, I had to speak English all the time with the children, because the main purpose is for them to get acquainted with daily life in English. Speaking or knowing Spanish is not a requirement to apply and stay with the family. In my case it made my communication much easier with other close family members (who by the way are the sweetest, most adorable people!).
Everything a WorkAwayer needs to know is written in their profile and feedbacks very correctly and detailed. For me this was the ultimate Spanish living experience and the best I could wish for.
Thank you again my beautiful family, for having me, treating me as a member of your own and making this experience a joyful one. I already miss you and having dinner without you is just not the same! This was my first Workaway experience! Mercedes and Alfonso are wonderful parents. They picked me up from the train station in Madrid and were nothing but friendly and helpful during my stay with the family. I stayed for almost two months and felt a part of the family instantly!

… read more easy to communicate with them. You will bring them to school in the morning and pick them up after school. The school is walking distance to the house. The town of Torreleguna is very cute! It is small but it was a really cool experience and it's easy to get to Madrid via bus!
The house is beautiful! You will have your own in-law style apartment with your own entrance as well. Mercedes is very accommodating and easy to talk with if you were to have any requests or concerns. I had such a wonderful time getting to know this family. They are super fun and always making jokes with each other, I loved it! The food is prepared daily and is healthy and delicious! I was more than happy to try some of abuela's homemade sauces and delicacies!
I will forever cherish the experience I had here. I would recommend this family to anyone!! The work is simple and you get lots of free time for yourself as well. I was able to spend a few weekends with the family too, visiting nearby towns. Thank you so much for everything!!! I am so appreciative for the hospitality and kindness that was shown to me.
