Desirae joined our family for over two weeks in september and we were real lucky to have her with us during that time. Desirae is really kind, respectful and fun person to hang out with.She is someone who is real easy to have deep conversations with, we loved it. … read more was very interested in our culture and taught us alot about hers.
No matter what chores we asked her to do she did them happily. She was willing and ready to try everything. When she arrived we were swamped with things to do around the farm and she was a big help to us and made our lives a whole lot easier. She is a very hard working person and doesn't mind getting dirty.
Our kids loved her and were devastated when she had to leave, she was always interested in their day to day lives and was always really patient and caring towards them.
We wish she could have stayed longer with us and hopefully we will see each other again and anyone who hosts her will be real lucky to have her :)

I couldn't have asked for a better first workaway experience! I thoroughly enjoyed and am so thankful for the time I got to spend in Iceland with Villi and Eva and their kids on the family farm. I was eager to learn about Iceland, cows and farming and boy oh boy, did I ever learn!
I spent the majority of my time at the barn with Villi. Villi was
… read more patient with me in the barn as I helped with various tasks (cleaning, painting, taking down and reassembling a wall, feeding the cows and calves, helping herd them into the milking parlour, pressure washing machinery, helping with the bales, etc.) and answered my millions of questions. I enjoyed working both alone and alongside Villi, and I will always appreciate our conversations, whether they were about farming, his philosophy on farming practices, Norse mythology, Icelandic culture, the Toronto Maple Leafs, and Canadian culture. Thanks for saving me from the mountain!
Both Villi and Eva were extremely kind, inviting and relaxed. I felt welcomed into their home from the moment I landed in Akureyri 'til the end of my stay. I enjoyed getting to know them and their kids and spending quality time with the whole family. I greatly enjoyed my conversations with Eva and getting to know her as well. She is an amazing cook! I promise I'll be making Icelandic soup one of these days soon! I enjoyed spending time playing games and going skating with Dalia and Natan (definitely one of my highlights). Rokkvi's hugs warmed my heart! Villi and Eva were also very helpful with giving me ideas for my days off; their recommendations were fantastic!
I got to experience Iceland in a unique way that I will ALWAYS cherish, and Villi, Eva and the kids play a huge part in that! I miss my Icelandic family! TAKK FYR ALLT!

I already miss my lovely host family. I'm supper happy I could spend time here. It was my first workaway opportunity and I really wanted to come to Iceland in my life. They have huge land and private secret beach ( I don’t want to tell everyone tho 😂), have to drive to go to the town to do something but just walking around their land makes me feel

I don’t speak Icelandic but Dalía and Natan speak English to me and even they tried to teach some Icelandic. and Rökkvi started calling my name that made me feel like part of the family too. My plan was only a month staying here but I asked the family to let me stay longer because I love this family and nature life.
Everyone was so nice, smart, kind to me, and flexible, when I asked to have days off at the last minute, they said yes. I didn’t feel I'm working here that was great for me :)
Here is on the beautiful farm, they have many animals too. I didn’t know what they are doing in general but I could see their life too. They made me some Icelandic food, teach lifestyle, took me to the family day trips also learned their parenting. That was also nice experiences for me and could see so many whales from the house that was super excited!
I wish I could stay longer with this family and explore more in Iceland, I hope I can come back near future here.

Miu was with us from June until beginning of August. She was our first workawayer and we really loved having her! She is so kind and respectful. Did everything we asked and more. Was lovely to our kids and our kids really adored her. She fell right in with our family and we didn't feel like we were having a stranger in our home, wich is a big plus
