I have an organic smallholding growing fruit, vegetables and trees.

Help is needed with gardening/horticulture, collecting wood, etc.

Help needed in the house and with maintenance. Any carpentry skills would be helpful.

Sailors with at least some experience also needed to help with preparing and sailing a small cruiser on the beautiful waters of Clew Bay.

Learn the basics of horticulture and some food preserving in season, i.e. Autumn ("Fall" for our US friends). Discover traditional Irish music, informal lessons in guitar & penny whistle ("Irish flute" in some languages). Ceili dancing in summer. I make sure to show you round the area, visit beaches & beauty spots, etc., go to the pub for trad. sessions (when possible) and generally enjoy life !
Ajuda
Main focus in the summer is on cultivation, harvesting & preserving veg. & fruit, for both summer & winter crops. In addition to the organic crops, I collect seaweed* for nutrition & fertiliser and make salt from seawater. Firewood is collected in summer months. I am also interested in No-Dig cultivation, making compost, self-sufficiency, collecting herbs and DIY energy projects. Now starting on Syntropic Agroforestry.

Sailors are welcome. I own a small sailing cruiser. Help is needed in preparing it for sea and with sailing locally in Clew Bay.

Musicians are welcome. We play at home and in local pubs (not so much in summer due to schedule clash).

Help in the house is also needed, this can be combined with other tasks.

* Seaweed season is June or July to October and depends on tides and wave conditions.

I have a cat in the house so you must like animals. Volunteers live with me as part of the family.

Derradda is an area of outstanding natural beauty, with plenty of opportunities for walking & hill-climbing. I am 5 mins. from the Great Western Greenway, an off-road bicycle path built on a disused railway line. 4km (2.5 mls) to Newport (shops, pubs), you can bike it. Bus to Westport 5 times daily. I am keen on traditional music, I play whistle & some guitar. Local ceili (traditional set dancing) adjacent to farm in July & August. Westport is renowned for trad. music.

I spent more than a month in Alli's and Colin's farm and it was wonderful. I learned a lot and worked very comfortable. I got the opportunity to sail, learn about plants, animals and some building. Staying with Allison, Colin and all the human and animal family was a blessing. They welcomed me with kindness and warmth. I spent 10 days helping in the farm, chatting a lot, singing, cooking and having fantastic walks on the surroundings that really really deserve. Great hug to all of you!!
