Descrição
Hi, I'm Ryan and I live on a peaceful one acre property in Salt Ash, New South Wales, just outside Newcastle and Port Stephens.
I own and operate a spearfishing, freediving and snorkelling business that I've been running for over 16 years. Most of my time is spent working, fishing, freediving, boating, travelling and exploring the incredible coastline around Port Stephens.
I share the property with my friendly and easy going housemate Bailey (23), my 14 year old Kelpie, Suzie, and a small flock of sheep, including seasonal baby lambs that are always a favourite with guests.
The property is located in a quiet rural area, approximately 20 minutes from Nelson Bay, 22 minutes from Newcastle and only a short drive from Newcastle Airport. There is a bus stop less than a minute away with good access to public transport and the highway. Newcastle is also very easy to reach from Sydney and many other parts of Australia by train, with regular NSW TrainLink services, as well as Greyhound and FlixBus coaches. My business is located close to the Newcastle Interchange, making it easy to collect guests arriving by train or coach.
I enjoy meeting people from different countries and cultures and have hosted travellers for several years through Abroadly, Facebook, HelpX and now Workaway. I am an ID verified host and have many verified guest reviews through Abroadly, along with hundreds of Google and Facebook reviews for my business.
If you love the ocean, you'll probably fit in well here. I regularly go freediving, spearfishing and snorkelling, teach both freediving and spearfishing, have plenty of spare equipment available, and often take guests out on my boat to experience the amazing local marine life.
Depending on the season and weather, we regularly see dolphins, whales, seals, rays, colourful fish, lobsters and sharks. I genuinely enjoy sharing these experiences with people who have a passion for the ocean.
Most of the help I need is cooking, housekeeping, cleaning, laundry, gardening and general household or property maintenance, with the opportunity to help in my spearfishing retail business if you're interested.
I'm looking for friendly, reliable and easy going people with a positive attitude who enjoy cooking, keeping a home organised, taking pride in their work and helping out as part of a relaxed household. If you also enjoy the outdoors, freediving, spearfishing, snorkelling or marine life, you'll probably fit in well here.
Every application is considered individually, and I ultimately choose the person who is the best fit for the exchange based on the help required, shared interests, availability and overall compatibility.
The household is quiet, relaxed and respectful. I'm often working or out on the water, so guests usually have plenty of privacy and space while still feeling part of the household.
If you're friendly, reliable, easy going and enjoy nature, wildlife, the ocean and experiencing a genuine Australian coastal lifestyle, I'd love to hear from you. -

Oportunidades de intercâmbio cultural e aprendizado
I enjoy meeting people from different countries and learning about different cultures, languages and ways of life. Over the years I have hosted travellers from all over the world and have made many great friendships along the way.
Guests have the opportunity to experience authentic Australian coastal living in the beautiful Port Stephens region. I am happy to share local knowledge about the area, including beaches, islands, wildlife, fishing, boating, freediving and the best places to explore.
Through my business, I can also share knowledge about freediving, spearfishing, marine life, ocean safety and local Australian fishing culture. Depending on weather, schedules and interests, there may be opportunities to visit local beaches, lookout points, national parks and other attractions.
I enjoy hearing travel stories and learning about life in other countries, and I believe cultural exchange should be beneficial for both hosts and guests. My goal is to provide a relaxed, welcoming environment where travellers can experience Australian life while sharing their own culture, experiences and perspectives. -
Ajuda
I'm looking for friendly, reliable and easy going people who are happy to help around the house and property.
Most of the help involves cooking, general household cleaning, laundry, keeping shared areas tidy, and some light gardening and outdoor maintenance, with the option to help in my spearfishing retail business if that interests you.
No special skills are required. I'm simply looking for people with a positive attitude, common sense and a willingness to help out. If you enjoy cooking, keeping things organised, taking pride in your work and contributing to a relaxed household, you'll be a great fit.
The exchange is approximately 20 hours per week, which usually works out to around 2 to 3 hours of help per day, depending on what needs doing. The workload is flexible and can easily work around your travel plans, sightseeing or other activities.
Some guests also choose to pick up a casual or part time job locally while staying here to help fund their travels. Because the help is flexible, it's usually easy to work around outside employment, provided the agreed help is completed.
The household is generally quiet as I run my own business and I'm often away working or out on the water.
Outside of hosting, I'm passionate about freediving, spearfishing and snorkelling, and I love introducing guests to the incredible marine life around Port Stephens. I often take guests out to see amazing fish, lobsters, rays, seals, dolphins and, during the season, humpback whales. I also teach freediving and spearfishing, have spare equipment available, and really enjoy sharing these experiences with people who have a genuine interest in the ocean.
In return, you'll have comfortable accommodation, plenty of privacy, Starlink internet, and the opportunity to experience the beautiful Port Stephens and Newcastle region. There are stunning beaches, offshore islands, sand dunes, dolphins, whales, bushwalking tracks and endless opportunities for outdoor adventures.
I've hosted travellers for several years through Abroadly, Facebook, HelpX and Workaway, and every guest brings something different to the experience. Every application is considered individually, and I choose the person who is the best fit for the exchange based on the type of help needed, availability, shared interests, personality and overall compatibility.
This opportunity is ideal for travellers looking for a relaxed Australian coastal lifestyle rather than a busy city environment. -

English is my native language. I know a few basic words and phrases in Polish and Spanish, but not enough to hold a conversation. Over the years I have hosted travellers from many different countries and cultures and have helped many guests improve their English through everyday conversations and daily life in Australia. I enjoy learning about different cultures, traditions and ways of life, and hearing stories from around the world. I'm happy to help travellers practise their English in a relaxed and natural environment, and I always enjoy learning a few new words and phrases from my guests along the way. For me, cultural exchange is one of the most rewarding parts of hosting. -
Acomodação
Guests will have access to comfortable accommodation on my quiet acre property in Salt Ash, NSW.

Food arrangements are flexible. Guests are welcome to prepare their own meals or share meals. If you enjoy seafood, you're in the right place. Fresh local fish, lobster and other seafood are often on the menu.
The household is generally quiet and relaxed, as I run my own business and am often away working, fishing, freediving or out on the water. -
Algo mais...
Non-smokers are preferred. If you do smoke, please do so well away from the house and dispose of cigarette butts responsibly in the bin.
The property is located just 7 minutes from Newcastle Airport and is easily accessible by public transport. There is a bus stop less than a minute's walk from the property, and Newcastle Interchange train station provides convenient connections to and from Sydney and other parts of New South Wales.
In your free time you can explore Port Stephens, Nelson Bay, Newcastle, local beaches, national parks, sand dunes, islands, whale watching, hiking trails and many other outdoor attractions.
I aim to provide a relaxed, respectful and flexible environment. Good communication, common sense and mutual respect are important. I want guests to enjoy their stay, have time to explore the area and make the most of their Australian adventure. -
