We spent an amazing 10 days with Jane and Kelly on the Whanganui River in January - it was an amazing experience. They are welcoming, patient and friendly, and genuinely enjoy welcoming travellers into their incredible home and sharing their knowledge about the area.
Every task we were set was acheivable and varied - we always felt like we'd

Jane and Kelly were also flexible with working hours, giving us time to explore Whanganui, the river and the surrounding hillside. We swam in the river most days, and were also able to squeeze in some canoeing too!
Staying in the Kiwi cabin was a treat. We had our own space to relax in, could explore the beatiful property, and fell asleep listening to ruru and kiwi. Everything we could possibly need was readily provided.
The food and the company were as superb as the scenery - we can't reccomend it enough. Thanks for a great time Jane and Kelly!

We spent 4 days at Jane & Kelly's out of this world locations for an unforgettable experience.
Work mainly consisted of taking care of the huge garden and orchard. Kelly gave us a large variety of job that the typical Workaway does not provide such at hauling firewood with the ATV and a trailer, trimming weeds and ferns under avocado trees with a

Jane & Kelly are very knowledgeable about the surroundings and the Whanganui river and we had great conversation about wildlife around the area.
We enjoyed the calm nights at the Kiwi cabin by the camping site for a close to nature experience but be aware that comfort is limited.
Also as mentioned in their description the gravel road that leads to the parking lot before the cable car is fairly steep and slippery. We have a 2012 Nissan Serena which is a 2.0l FWD family car and the climb back to the road from the parking was quite challenging as we lost traction several times.
Other than that we highly recommend getting in the cable car and enjoying the calm on the other side of the river. This Workawayer has chosen to keep their profile private.

3) Work - From doing general maintenance, preparing for rowers to come up shore, having the chance to drive the ATV, I had the opportunity to also build up a small shelter as well (Hope i didn't slow you down Kelly!),
On top of that, we had many opportunities to cross-share cultural knowledge during working and meal times together.
Also, thank you Kelly, for introducing to me bone carving and having the opportunity to try it out for myself.
Can't forget Mango the cat, who was affectionate with me throughout my stay there.

Another passion they have is for their local area. They are able to offer a great depth of knowledge and advice on subjects like walking tracks, how best to spend your free time and the local wildlife around them. They even helped me with my next step after my time with them and shared the best travel destinations for future stops in my trip.

I spent about one week at this absolutely marvellous place and after I travelled around almost the whole country I can say Jane and Kelly are (for me) the most lovely, kindest and realest host I ever met! Clemens stayed with us for 11 days in November 2022.
During his time with us he undertook a number of everyday tasks such as lawn mowing and tidying up the workshop. Clemens was most helpful to Kelly in finishing the construction on some new accommodation we were building for our Workaway volunteers. We found he worked best under supervision and

He seemed to enjoy the opportunity to undertake some short day tramps accessible from our property and was able to join a canoe trip we were running to experience the Whanganui river. He was helpful to the guide on this trip, carrying items like chilly bins etc.
One of the things we really enjoy about hosting Workaway volunteers is the aspect of cultural exchange (sharing our unspoilt area of NZ and learning about other countries). Sadly, we did not experience this with Clemens who appeared unwilling to tell us much about Austria and his life there at all. Despite his profile saying he likes cooking he was also unwilling to share any of these skills with us despite encouragement to do so.

Getting to know Jane&Kelly was an absolute joy.
They offered us transport from the town of Whanganui to their magical place on the banks of the Whanganui river. The journey itself was filled with breathtaking views of the river valley and sorrounding hills. Then a sturdy fox took us across the water, to a farmland with colorful, whimsical
… read more cottages, each custom built and tells a unique story. The one named Tui was allocated to us. It had a spacious bedroom with windows facing the lush hills on the opposite bank, a campervan turned into a kitchen, which had a gas stove, heater and utensil, as well as charging ports for our phones, then a small, practical bathroom with a hot shower working on filtered rainwater. It was really cozy!
Our tasks were to help the hosts with any maintenance, building, gardening projects they had, and they had a lot in means of amount and variety too! It's a huge area, so everybody can find something they enjoy doing. Specificially, we helped them paint and clean a shed, lay outdoor mats, make a new flower garden with a path, cement some fences, construct gates, then paint them, shift materials from one place to another, cared for the chooks, picked avocados, trimmed bushes and so on.
We received 3 filling meals every day (breakfast we had to make ourselves with materials they provided). Jane and Kelly even cooked national and family specialities for us, and so did we for them.
They showed us what remote, self sufficient farm life and being hospitable is like in a fashion that is commendable and fun. We cooked together, played games, shared stories, learned langauge shenanigans, exchanged culture and enjoyed ourselves in general. They are interesting, intelligent, fun loving, honest and hard working people. Well travelled too! If you are the sort, then you will definitely enjoy your time at their farm!
We cherish the time we spent with them, and Mungo, their very meowy kitty cat, who greeted us everytime we went over for dinner.
Overall, 4.99/5, totally recommend! Cheers!Só é possível entrar em contato com Workawayers com assinaturas ativas.

Balazs and Henrietta stayed with us for almost a month as Workaway volunteers. Sadly my (Jane) father passed away whilst they were with us but I was confident in taking the time away needed to support my mother knowing that Balazs and Henrietta were at home to help Kelly.
Balazs and Henrietta were genuinely interested in finding out about life in NZ and we had a number of enjoyable evenings discussing the differences in customs, socio-economic systems, politics, daily life (and of course food) between our two countries. They were both easy to get along with and have great senses of humour which their competent grasp of English allowed us to share.
They were both also easy to cater for, eating just about everything and being keen to try new dishes and tastes (including marmite!). Again we felt this was a wonderful cultural exchange and Balazs and Henrietta were happy to share in the cooking and introduced us to some fantastic Hungarian meals which (if I can master the recipes) will become a firm fixture at our table.
Overall, we have to rank Henrietta and Balazs amongst the most positive Workaway experiences we have had and would recommend them unreservedly to other hosts. Don't pass up the opportunity to have this couple stay - and don't miss the chance to try Chicken Paprikash!

Bill stayed with us for two weeks in June 21.
Whilst we did not get started on the tiny house project we were hoping to complete with him (due to weather and other demands on our time), Bill was very helpful in getting a number of small projects finished off.
During his time with us Bill undertook house painting work, helped clean up our orchard

Bills' mature approach means he is able to work unsupervised and he is meticulous in his work, preferring to do things by hand than use machinery. The stoat traps he built are of high quality and he left a template so that we are able to replicate his work in the future.
Bill has strong preferences for breakfast food, dinner times and days off, however we did not find this difficult to accommodate. (We would suggest hosts chat with Bill beforehand so that the stay is comfortable for everyone).
We are happy to recommend Bill as a volunteer and he would be welcome to come back anytime.

I immensely enjoyed spending my work hours helping Kelly in all kinds of tasks. He made it sure I don't get bored and tried to give me a good variety of things to be done. I helped in roof fixing (just a bit:), collecting fallen leaves, maintaining a walking track, building a house for our friends the chickens, painting a part of a wall, designing landscape around the campsite and cutting some kindlings.
We had lunch and dinner together and it felt lovely to be part of their life for a short while. On my cosy residence, I enjoyed listening to Kelly's collection of LP's over the heat of a gas heater.
