  KAYAK GUIDES / SUMMER HOSTS IN OLDEN, NORWAY – 2027
  
  We are looking for two kayak guides for the 2027 summer season in Olden, Western Norway, most likely from approximately 10 June to 2 September. Ideally, you can stay for most or all of this period.
  
  For 2027 the main task will be guided kayaking, either small group tours or private kayak tours. We are a small local company with small groups, and most guests are international and English-speaking.
  
  WHAT THE WORK IS LIKE
  
  A typical day may start around 09:30. You pick up the guests, drive about 10 minutes to the kayak location, prepare the equipment and guide them on the water. Afterwards you normally have lunch with the guests, drive them back and reset everything for the next tour.
  
  A standard tour is approximately three hours, and we normally pay for four hours to include preparation, driving, cleaning and resetting.
  
  Other tasks include guest communication, checking bookings and weather, maintaining kayaks and equipment, buying supplies when needed and small practical jobs.
  
  You will also help as a co-host for a cabin. This mainly means cleaning and resetting the cabin between guests, making sure everything is clean, tidy and ready for the next arrival.
  
  The guides have considerable independence, so good judgement and the ability to solve small problems are important.
  
  TWO PEOPLE WHO KNOW EACH OTHER
  
  We need two guides, and there is a big advantage if you already know each other well. I will most likely hire two people who come as a pair. A couple, partners or two close friends can be a particularly good fit.
  
  HOURS AND INCOME
  
  Tourism in Olden varies with cruise schedules, weather and visitor numbers. Historically there have often been around 5–9 guided tours per week, with 20–40 hours of work in busy periods. Other periods can be considerably quieter.
  
  This is therefore not the right job if you depend on guaranteed hours every week or need to maximise your summer income. When guiding is quiet, we have sometimes been able to offer other paid practical work, but this is not guaranteed.
  
  The job suits someone who values the experience of living in Western Norway, enjoys outdoor life and likes having free time to explore the area.
  
  WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
  
  Previous guiding experience is useful, but personality, reliability and judgement are more important. You should enjoy meeting people, taking responsibility and working independently.
  
  Your English must be very good. You will be speaking with guests for several hours at a time, explaining things clearly, answering questions and making conversation, so you need to feel very comfortable communicating in English.
  
  Being fluent in Norwegian, Swedish or Danish is a significant advantage. A driving licence and being comfortable driving guests are also important.
  
  ACCOMMODATION AND LIFE IN OLDEN
  
  Accommodation is free. You will have your own traditional Norwegian house, modernised to a high standard.
  
  Mountains, fjords, lakes and wilderness are right outside the door, with excellent opportunities for hiking and exploring in your free time.
  
  We have regular contact with the guides and provide the training, information and equipment you need. I am not always physically in Olden, but I am available by phone and messages whenever something comes up.

  The main work is guiding small kayak tours and making sure guests have a safe, relaxed and memorable experience. You will meet guests, drive them to the kayak location, prepare the equipment, guide them on the water and reset everything afterwards.
  
  You will also help with checking bookings and weather, cleaning and maintaining kayaks and equipment, buying supplies when needed, and other small practical tasks.
  
  Part of the work is co-hosting a cabin. This mainly involves cleaning and resetting the cabin between guests, making sure it is clean, tidy and ready for the next arrival.
  
  The task requires a high level of independence. You should be reliable, practical, comfortable making decisions when plans change, and genuinely enjoy talking to people. Your English must be very good, as most guests are international and you will often spend several hours talking with them.
  
  A driving licence is required. Being fluent in Norwegian, Swedish or Danish is a advantage.

  Olden/Stryn is a great place for outdoor adventure (climbing, hiking, biking, swimming, etc). This is the number one place the big celebrities go to, when they visit Norway. You live 8 minutes’ drive from the center of Olden (a small village). Public transport is not frequent.
