Hi, I am a single mum living 8 km outside of Galway City in the West of Ireland in a small village . It's a beautiful area just a five minute walk from the Atlantic Ocean/Galway Bay. I have a little girl, Síofra who is 9 yrs old. I also have two older children. Amber is 23 yrs and is currently living in Tenerife. Naoise is 28 yrs and currently lives in Cork City and is in a brilliant band called ADORE!

We love animals and have two very friendly dogs, they are 15yrs and 3yrs old. Our house is colourful and relaxed, we love listening to music, working on art projects and eating good, mostly vegetarian food. We have WiFi.

Síofra is a very free spirited girl who needs someone outgoing and fun who can match her energy and zest for life! Ideally I need someone who would like to come and spend a few months with us and become part of the family and a friend to Síofra. I work from home as a photographer and artist and need someone to play with her some afternoons and put her to bed one night per week.

If you think you could be Síofras friend and would like to experience life in Ireland in a homely, relaxed atmosphere, please send me a message.

This position would suit a female in their early/mid twenties who is independent and would like to explore Galway/Ireland at the weekends.

Galway city is 15 mins away by car and there is a bus service. There are shops and bars/restaurants locally and we are on The Wild Atlantic Way on the edge of Connemara.

There is lots to do. Galway city is a very vibrant city with lots of festivals, gigs, art exhibitions, cafes and is only 25mins away. There is a lovely beach 5mins walk away from the house.
We are on The Wild Atlantic Way, on the edge of Connemara,
The local villages have a craft fair, pubs with great food and live music.
There are some bikes here available and some gorgeous cycles and also lots of walks and hikes.

I stayed with Vanessa, Síofra, and their sweet dogs for three months this past fall, from September through December. This review is months overdue! In all honesty, I've been putting it off because I wasn't ready to say goodbye to such an impactful time of my life.

This was my first workaway experience and it couldn't have gone better! From day … read more one, Vanessa and Síofra welcomed me into their home and lives. I arrived to three of Síofra's stuffed teddies lovingly arranged on my bed. I immediately felt comfortable and that this would be a great fit.

Vanessa and Síofra keep a fairly consistent schedule, which made it easy to plan my free time accordingly! I had afternoons and weekends off, and Vanessa is pretty flexible. For example, I was able to take side trips to Edinburgh and the Aran Islands during my time there. In the mornings, while Síofra was at school, I'd complete various chores like vacuuming, cleaning bathrooms, tidying toys, etc. This never took me more than an hour or two. Vanessa has a schedule for what is to be done each day, so I always knew what was expected!

After school, Síofra and I would usually play, whether outside when the weather was nice, or inside! She has tons of toys and no lack of imagination; it's amusing to see the stories she comes up with. I learned a lot from her, especially about horses (her favorite animal!).

We also did lots of crafts! If you're a creative person, like I am, you'll truly fit right in. As an artist, Vanessa has tons of art supplies, and Síofra and I dabbled in many mediums. We drew, we sewed, and made things out of clay. We even built one of her Schleich horses—Bubbles—a stable.

The mild Irish climate made it so easy to spend time outside. (Just make sure to pack a raincoat!) We often took the dogs to the beach, a ten-minute walk down the road, or drove to the Spiddal or Salthill beaches. Besides the company, this was my favorite part of living here. Being so close to the Connemara coast was magical. In my free time, I took long walks along the coast. But it was equally enchanting to traverse the roads further inland; many homes keep cattle, sheep or horses. I loved stumbling across these beautiful animals whilst on long walks; it felt like I was living in a fairytale! Vanessa lives in the perfect spot to get a mix of country and coastal scenery.

Galway is around a 25 minute bus ride away, (Salthill even less!) and it's easy to catch the bus at the end of Vanessa's road or from the local pub. I went to the city often and never had much of an issue catching the bus; one comes at least every hour, and they run until around 11 pm! This made my stay the perfect balance of city and country life. I got to experience the vibrant music culture, lively pubs (and of course, brilliant Guinness!) that Galway offers, along with the charming Connemara countryside and coast.

Overall, Síofra is a wonderful kid to look after. She brought out my whimsical, childlike side and engaged my imagination every day. I was more than happy to spend time with her; it never felt like work, it felt natural, and we became fast friends. I miss her dearly! My stay with Vanessa and Síofra was a time I will cherish forever. I'm beyond grateful that I got to share life with them for a few months.

I had a lovely experience staying here! I really enjoyed my time with Vanessa, Síofra, Naoise and the dogs :). It was fun to be a part of this family for a while. The beach is close by , and the walks there are lovely. Síofra is creative, curious and fun to hang out with. Vanessa is lovely to chat to and a great cook. I recommend this workaway!

I spent a month with Vanessa and her family and it was great! They’re all really friendly and helped me as much as they could, I learnt a lot with them. Every day was different and it was impossible to get bored. It is really cute and I visited a lot of beautiful places like Galway.
