We’re a small, friendly hobby farm with a mix of animals, gardens, and outdoor projects — and we love sharing this space with kind, hard-working people who appreciate nature, animals, and simple living. A good attitude and willingness to pitch in are the most important things here!

   Dog walks & care – Our two Dashounds love walks, and playtime.
  Animal care – keeping dog space clean
   • Gardening & outdoor work – Planting, weeding, harvesting, and maintaining the vegetable and berry gardens. Must be comfortable lifting wheelbarrows and enjoying physical, outdoor work. Depending on the time of year . May be snow removal
   House sitting & general help – Looking after the house and animals when needed.
   •   Cleaning & light maintenance – Interior and exterior cleaning, small painting or repair projects.
   •    help – Assisting with general Mac computer help
We will work together sometime and some , share meals and laughter, and enjoy time outdoors surrounded by nature. If you love animals, gardening, and learning by doing, you’ll fit right in

Good experience! I had a nice time at the farm, Gaylene is helpful and never let me lack for anything.
I rode a horse for the first time and visited White Rock. The dog Max is really dear and needs a lot of company.

We stayed with Gaylene for 3 weeks on her hobby farm and really learned a lot! We did a lot of outside work and got a lot done on the farm.

When you first walk into Gaylene's ranch you will be amazed, that I can guarantee, it's a magical place! It is set on a large, but manageable acreage amongst the woodlands of South Langley with nature parks dotted around in the vicinity. Look out and you will see deer, black squirrels, Canada geese and even bald eagles flying over head. The… read more workaway housing and outbuildings are of a very high standard with all the amenities you could ever need. A private room, bedding and towels are provided along with food for communal cooking.

The standards of horse care are very high here, they are training and breeding cross boarder reining champions so the standards of workmanship are naturally also expected to be very high. In addition to the daily yard chores, mucking out, feeding, watering, fetching hay etc. general grounds maintenance is required almost on a daily basis so don't worry, your days will always be filled with activity. In addition a second ranch is presently being built which is 5 minutes drive or 20 minutes walk away so building work there is also required. Hard work is apart of daily life here, it is mostly physical so you will finish most days tiered, but satisfied after a days good work in the fresh country air, looking forward to sitting down for the evening dinner or even the chance of a Western riding lesson with Vicky.

I was grateful to be accepted here despite only having two weeks time to offer. My duties were varied and included: The type of general house work to be expected of living in shared accommodation, hoovering, moping floors, cleaning bathrooms, toilets, shower, kitchen area. Gardening, transferring soil/grit, re-landscaping around the pond, moving stones and earth, blowing/collecting leaves. Building work, including putting up wooden panels for the new stables, installing roof and wall insulation and laying down rubber stable matting. Yard work, including mucking out horse stables, and outdoor pens, re-feeding, watering and hey. Handling the horses is limited depending on ability and experience/time on the farm (note first sentence, second paragraph). The ranch is well equipped and a good range of equipment is provided for all tasks which helps in always providing a professional standard.

I can certainly recommend a workaway experience here, I would love to see it in summer also. As with most things in life, you get out what you put in. Enjoy!
