Descrição
We are a Swiss family living in our family home in Montreux, in the French-speaking part of Switzerland. We are currently reorganising and completing the installation of our home and would be happy to welcome friendly, positive and practical people who would enjoy sharing this project with us.
Our family home is located in the old part of Montreux, in a beautiful setting overlooking Lake Geneva and the surrounding mountains. The house has several independent living areas, gardens on different levels, terraces and a swimming pool, so there is plenty of space for everyone to feel comfortable and have some privacy.
We are a family of five: my wife Catherine, myself (Sia), and our three adult daughters. Catherine and I will mainly be involved in the project and will organise things together with our guests.
At the moment, we are gradually reorganising the house, improving the different living and storage areas, and bringing some of our belongings from storage in Lausanne to Montreux. It is a varied home project involving organisation, unpacking, arranging rooms, furniture assembly, light DIY, some gardening and outdoor activities, and helping us make the house comfortable and fully organised again.
We would especially enjoy welcoming people who are practical, organised and easy-going, and who like seeing the visible results of a project develop over time. Friends or couples travelling together are very welcome.
We speak French and English. The atmosphere we would like to create is friendly, flexible and respectful, with time to work on the project together as well as plenty of opportunity to enjoy Montreux, Lake Geneva and this beautiful region of Switzerland. -

Oportunidades de intercâmbio cultural e aprendizado
We would like our Workawayers to experience everyday family life in the French-speaking part of Switzerland, rather than simply stay with us as visitors.
We are a Swiss family with an international background, and our three daughters are young adults. We enjoy meeting people from different countries and generations, sharing conversations, meals when possible, ideas and experiences, while also respecting everyone's independence and free time.
French is the main local language and is naturally part of everyday life here, so Workawayers who would like to improve their French will have opportunities to practise it in a relaxed environment. We also speak English, which makes communication easy for people who are still learning French.
We are happy to share what we know about life in Switzerland, the local culture and the Lake Geneva region. At the same time, we are genuinely interested in learning from our guests — their culture, food, experiences, practical skills and different ways of organising or improving a home. We hope that working together on our home project will also create a natural exchange of ideas and skills.
Montreux is a wonderful base for discovering this part of Switzerland during your free time. We live in the old part of Montreux, between Lake Geneva and the mountains. From here, you can enjoy the lakeside, walk or hike in the surrounding countryside and mountains, and explore nearby towns and villages.
Close to us are the famous Château de Chillon, the Rochers-de-Naye mountain and its panoramic railway, the Gorges du Chauderon, Vevey and the UNESCO-listed Lavaux vineyard terraces. Lavaux is particularly beautiful to explore on foot or by train through its historic wine-growing villages.
Lausanne is also easily accessible for a day out, and there are many possibilities for further excursions around Lake Geneva and into the Swiss Alps. Depending on your interests and budget, you can enjoy hiking, cycling, swimming, boat trips on the lake, museums, local markets, vineyards, mountain excursions or simply the long lakeside promenades between Montreux, Vevey and the surrounding villages.
September can be a particularly pleasant period to discover the region, with opportunities to enjoy both the lake and the beginning of the autumn season in the vineyards and mountains.
We will be happy to share local suggestions and help our guests find places and activities that suit their interests. We also hope to occasionally share a meal, an outing or a local experience together when everyone's schedule allows.
For us, a successful Workaway stay would mean that at the end of the experience we have made good progress on our family project, but also that our guests have had enough independence and free time to discover the region, practise languages, experience everyday life in French-speaking Switzerland and leave with good memories of their stay with our family. -
Ajuda
Our project is mainly about helping us reorganise and complete the installation of our family home in Montreux. There is already quite a lot in the house, so our first priority will be to work together to create space, organise what is already here, and make the different rooms and storage areas more practical.
Once we have created enough space, we will gradually bring our remaining belongings from a storage facility in Lausanne. As the storage is packed, we cannot always choose what comes first, so boxes, furniture and household items may arrive in no particular order. Part of the project will therefore be unpacking, identifying, sorting and finding the right place for things as they arrive.
The help is varied and may include:
sorting, unpacking and organising boxes and household belongings;
organising rooms, cupboards, basement and storage areas;
moving and arranging furniture;
assembling or disassembling furniture;
helping with occasional trips and moving belongings between Lausanne and Montreux;
light DIY and simple repairs;
small painting and finishing projects;
helping with decoration and making rooms comfortable and practical;
gardening and organising outdoor areas;
sorting things that we no longer need for donation, recycling or possible sale;
general practical help as we gradually complete the organisation of the house.
We will be working on the project together. Sia will mainly coordinate the practical side, moving, furniture and storage organisation, while Catherine will be more involved with the interior organisation, placement of household items and decoration.
We do not expect everyone to be good at everything. We would actually love to welcome people with complementary skills. Someone may enjoy practical work, furniture assembly and gardening, while another person may prefer organising, unpacking, decorating and arranging the interior.
What matters most to us is being reliable, careful with household belongings, practical, positive and comfortable working together. People who enjoy seeing a space gradually become organised and welcoming will probably enjoy this project very much.
The rhythm will be flexible and discussed together. Some days we may focus on the house, another day on the garden, and occasionally on bringing belongings from Lausanne. We would like to make good progress while keeping the experience friendly, balanced and enjoyable for everyone. -

French is our family’s mother tongue and the main language spoken at home, so Workawayers will have plenty of opportunities to practise French naturally through everyday conversations and family life. We all speak English as well, so communication is easy for guests who do not yet speak much French. Our family also has experience with other European languages: our eldest daughter Pauline speaks German and some Italian, Laura speaks Spanish, and Sara speaks Italian. We are very open to language exchange and would be happy to help our guests practise French while also learning or improving other languages through informal conversations. There is no formal teaching programme — we see it as a natural and enjoyable exchange through daily life, shared meals, conversations and time spent together. Workawayers who are learning French are therefore very welcome, and speaking fluent French is not essential as long as we can communicate comfortably in either French or English. -
Acomodação
Our Workawayers will stay with us in our spacious family home in the old part of Montreux, overlooking Lake Geneva and the surrounding mountains.
The house is arranged over several levels, with independent entrances to the different floors. There are several bedrooms, bathrooms and toilets, so we have enough space to provide our guests with comfortable accommodation and a good level of privacy. Depending on whether we welcome a couple, friends or several Workawayers, we will arrange the bedrooms in the most practical way and agree this with them before arrival.
Clean bedding, sheets and towels will be provided. Guests will also have access to a bathroom, Wi-Fi and the normal facilities of the house. There is a laundry area available as well.
The property has outdoor spaces on different levels, gardens, terraces and a swimming pool. We also have outdoor parking available if a Workawayer comes with a car. The exact practical arrangements and use of the different areas will be explained when we confirm the stay.
Food and meals
Food will be provided during the stay. We enjoy sharing meals together when possible, but we also want everyone to feel independent and comfortable with their own schedule. Depending on the day, we may cook and eat together or guests may prepare something for themselves using the food available at home.
We would be happy to discover dishes from our guests' countries as well, and cooking together from time to time can be part of the cultural exchange.
If you have a vegetarian diet, allergies, intolerances or other important dietary requirements, please let us know before we confirm the stay so that we can make sure the arrangement works comfortably for everyone.
Our aim is to offer a welcoming, clean and comfortable home base where Workawayers can feel part of the household while still having their own space and independence during their free time. -

Getting around and free time
Montreux is very well connected by public transport, so having a car is not necessary. Trains and local buses make it easy to explore Montreux, Vevey, Lausanne and the surrounding Lake Geneva region. From Montreux railway station, there are also good connections for travelling further around Switzerland.
During their days off, Workawayers can enjoy the lakeside, the old town of Montreux, nearby Vevey, Château de Chillon, the Lavaux vineyard terraces, Lausanne and many walking and hiking opportunities in the surrounding mountains. Rochers-de-Naye and other mountain destinations are accessible from the Montreux area. Depending on the season and weather, there are also opportunities for swimming, cycling, boat trips and simply enjoying the lake and countryside.
We will be happy to share our local knowledge and suggest places according to our guests' interests and budget. Workawayers are of course free to organise their own activities and excursions during their time off.
Living together
We would like the atmosphere at home to be relaxed, friendly and respectful. We are a family household, but the size and layout of the house allow everyone to have some independence and personal space.
We appreciate good communication, consideration for other people in the house and reasonable care of the home and its belongings. We will explain practical things such as keys, kitchen use, laundry, recycling, parking, garden and swimming pool when our guests arrive.
Because our home project is varied, we appreciate flexibility. We normally discuss together what we would like to work on and organise the days according to priorities, weather and everyone's abilities. Some activities are indoors, while others may involve the garden, furniture, storage areas or occasional trips with us between Montreux and Lausanne.
Comfortable clothes and closed shoes suitable for practical activities are recommended. If you particularly enjoy gardening, organising, decorating, furniture assembly or light DIY, feel free to tell us — we like to organise activities according to people's interests and skills whenever possible.
Timing
We are currently looking for Workawayers for September 2026. Our preferred arrival period is during the first or second week of September, but we are flexible and would like to agree on the exact arrival and departure dates together with the selected Workawayers.
We ideally prefer people who can stay for around 3–4 weeks, as this gives everyone enough time to settle in, get to know each other, contribute to the project and also enjoy the region.
Friends and couples travelling together are very welcome. We are also open to individual applications and will look for people with complementary personalities and practical skills.
Before confirming a stay, we would like to exchange a few messages and ideally have a short video call. This gives both sides an opportunity to ask questions, discuss expectations, dates and practical arrangements, and make sure that the stay feels like a good match for everyone.
We look forward to welcoming positive, respectful and practical people who would like to share a few weeks of family life with us while discovering a beautiful part of French-speaking Switzerland. -
