  Jason and Brett are a married gay couple living on a beautiful 75-acre property in the Northern Rivers, NSW, surrounded by rainforest, gardens and national park.
  
  We genuinely enjoy hosting travellers and sharing a little of our life here. Over the years our helpers have become part of our little pack while they’re staying with us. We often work together, share meals, have a laugh and include helpers in whatever else we’re getting up to.
  
  There’s always something happening around the property. Depending on what we’re working on, you might help with gardening, mowing and brush cutting, clearing lantana or fallen timber, maintaining tracks, painting, building projects or general property maintenance.
  
  We love hosting people who enjoy getting stuck in and learning practical skills. Experience with tools, machinery, building or outdoor work is great, but definitely not essential. If you’re enthusiastic and keen to learn, we’re very happy to show you.
  
  At the same time, you’ll sometimes work independently and there’s plenty of space during your time off to relax, explore the area or do your own thing.

  Staying with us is a chance to experience everyday life in the Northern Rivers and share our home and lifestyle for a while.
  
  We’ll happily teach you practical skills along the way, either using tools and equipment, gardening, property maintenance, building projects or simply learning how we tackle the endless little challenges that come with looking after 75 acres.
  
  But the exchange is about much more than the work.
  
  We enjoy getting to know the people who stay with us, sharing meals, stories and plenty of laughs.
  We love hearing about who you are, where you come from, the food you grew up with and your travels, and we’re always happy to help with your English.
  
  You’ll get a taste of Australian country life, and hopefully we’ll learn something from you too.

  Ajuda

  There’s always plenty to do around theproperty, and the work changes depending on the projects we have happening at the time.
  
  You might help with gardening, mowing and brush cutting, clearing lantana or fallen timber, maintaining tracks, fencing, painting, basic construction and repairs, or other general property projects.
  
  We have a good range of tools and equipment and are very happy to teach you how to use things safely.
  If you already have practical, building, gardening or machinery experience, fantastic, but you definitely don’t need to arrive as an expert.
  
  Some jobs are physical and outdoors, so you need to be reasonably fit and happy to get your hands dirty.
  
  We often work alongside our helpers, although once you know what you’re doing, you'll sometimes work independently.
  
  We usually ask for around 20–25 hours of help each week in exchange for accommodation and meals. We’re flexible about how those hours are spread across the week, so there’s plenty of time to explore the area and enjoy your stay.

  Acomodação

  Accommodation is in a comfortable private room in the house with a comfy bed.
  The house is air-conditioned and heated, with great facilities, plenty of hot water, Starlink WiFi and laundry.
  
  We provide all meals, and Brett is a fantastic cook. We really enjoy sharing meals with our helpers and love it when people get involved in the kitchen and share a favourite dish or recipe from home with us.
  
  You’ll be sharing our home with us, but there’s plenty of space to relax and have your own time when you want it.

  Getting here: If you don’t have a car, that’s OK. We can usually pick you up from the bus stop in Byron Bay, Lismore or Mullumbimby. Sometimes we can also pick you up from Brisbane, depending on our plans. During your stay, we’re also happy to give you a lift when we’re going into town.
  
  Our place is about a 45-minute drive inland from Byron Bay, surrounded by national parks, waterfalls and some of the most beautiful bushwalks in the region. The closest village is Clunes (15 minutes), with Mullumbimby and Lismore each around 30 minutes away.
  
  On your time off, there are local swimming holes, bushwalks and lookouts to explore, or plenty of space here just to relax.
  
  We enjoy a good life here.
  We love good food, shared meals, good company and having a laugh. If we’re heading out somewhere or doing something social, you’re very welcome to join us, but there’s never any pressure if you’d rather do your own thing.
  
  We just ask for mutual respect, clear communication and everyone pitching in to keep shared spaces tidy. There’s no smoking in the house and ideally you’re a non-smoker.
  
  When you apply, tell us a little about yourself, what brings you to Australia and what you’d like to get out of your stay with us.
  
  If you have any practical, outdoor, building or tool experience, we’d love to hear about that too, but it’s definitely not essential.
